Chapter Ninety-Three: Aftermath, Part Two
Yuqian had finished reading the whole matter from beginning to end, and with a somewhat peculiar expression, she said to Wen Xiu, “Xiu Xiu, I’m going to have dinner with Zhou Jingchen. You go eat on your own.”
Wen Xiu froze for a moment. “You two are going on another date and leaving me behind?”
“What date? We’re not even a couple. I have something to ask him.” Rolling her eyes, Yuqian slung her bag over her shoulder and headed out.
Wen Xiu waved after her, a little weary. Not a couple, yet even more than one. If those two wanted to whisper secrets to each other, she had no interest in listening.
By the time she arrived at the set, Zhou Jingchen was still filming. Nothing seemed amiss on set; Yuqian guessed they had been shooting all day and probably still hadn’t seen the news online.
Not wanting to disturb them, Yuqian quietly sat down on Zhou Jingchen’s stool and rested her chin in her hands, watching him act.
Perhaps because Zhou Jingchen always appeared before her in such an easy, ordinary way, seeing him so focused on camera all at once made Yuqian think: Zhou Jingchen was incredibly handsome.
As expected, a man at work was the most handsome of all.
For once, Yuqian found herself completely charmed by Zhou Jingchen.
When Zhou Jingchen finished today’s scenes and came back, he found his little darling cupping her face in both hands, wearing a mysterious little smile and gazing at him like a lovesick fool.
“Hey, little darling.” He waved a hand in front of her eyes. Seeing her come back to herself, he crouched down to her level. “What were you thinking about just now? Smiling so... well...”
He couldn’t quite find the words. “A little dreamy” seemed too risky, and nothing else really fit either.
“You looked really handsome just now,” Yuqian said, not the least bit shy about praising him.
So you were swooning?” he asked, a little stunned.
“Yep!” Yuqian nodded, her eyes curved with laughter.
“Haha, little darling, you actually have moments when you swoon too.”
“That’s right! Why not? If my future boyfriend is this handsome, what’s wrong with me swooning over him?” Yuqian wrinkled her nose, displeased by how much he was laughing.
Zhou Jingchen reached out and patted her head, the corners of his mouth lifting. “Of course you can. Swoon however much you like. After all, I am your future boyfriend, aren’t I? Little swooner.”
As he spoke, he even flicked the tip of her nose.
Just then, Director Xu came over.
“Well, well, whispering secrets, are you?” Xu Guangrong had not planned to come over, but the way these two interacted was making him a bit uneasy.
If he did not know Yuqian was only thirteen, it would have been fine; he could have taken them for two young people dating. But the problem was that he knew she was thirteen.
Zhou Jingchen was someone he had his eye on; there must not be any scandal about him being a pedophile.
“Hello, Director Xu!” Yuqian stood up and greeted him with a smile.
Xu Guangrong also smiled. “I’ve spoken to Old Lin. You can go straight to the audition the day after tomorrow. I’ve already dealt with the person who spread those rumors about the two of you.”
“Thank you, Director Xu!” Yuqian was sincerely grateful. Zheng Xiajun’s behavior had been underhanded, but it had not affected the filming of the crew. If Director Xu had wanted, he could have simply pretended not to know or smoothed things over; there was even less need to personally drive the man out of the production.
And yet he still had him removed. Regardless of how much their backgrounds contributed to it, at the very least, he looked down on the man’s methods and genuinely cared about the two children.
Moreover, he was willing to help her pass a message along to Director Lin. For Yuqian, that kindness was something she accepted.
As for Zheng Xiajun, who had been talking nonsense, being expelled from the crew had already ruined most of his martial arts directing career. Yuqian did not plan to trouble him further.
After all, it is wise to let bygones be bygones; pushing someone too far can easily bring trouble later.
So long as Zheng Xiajun behaved himself from now on and did not come looking for trouble with her or anyone she cared about, Yuqian would no longer bother with him.
As for Zhou Jingchen, he listened to everything Yuqian said and would certainly not take it upon himself to go looking for trouble with anyone.
Xu Guangrong pulled Zhou Jingchen aside and said in a low voice, “That girl is only thirteen. Watch the impact you’re having!”
Zhou Jingchen could not help but laugh and cry at the same time. Did he really seem that unreliable?
“Director Xu, don’t worry. I promised her and her family that I wouldn’t do anything before she comes of age!”
Xu Guangrong looked at him with obvious disbelief.
“It’s true! If you don’t believe me, ask her!”
Clicking his tongue, Xu Guangrong reluctantly believed him somewhat. “Fine, then you handle it properly!”
Only then did he finally let him go to eat with Yuqian.
