Chapter 141: Fu Wawan
Two days later, the instructor arrived in the provincial capital and officially began Yu Qian's training.
This instructor was Fu Wanwan, one of the first generation of Chinese models to gain international fame. Despite her gentle-sounding name, she was anything but gentle on the runway; her powerful, rhythmic stride was legendary, and she was once hailed internationally as the top supermodel from China.
While nominally part of the first generation, her age was closer to the currently active second and third generations, as she was still under thirty. Her contemporaries were all still busy walking the runways; she alone had retired. The reason was simple: she had lost the desire to walk, had earned enough money, and simply wanted to live a relaxed life.
When Wen Xiu later asked why she had suddenly agreed to teach Yu Qian, she replied, "I looked at the newcomers emerging today—their walks are sloppy, their stage presence is poor, and not a single one of them can hold their own. If I let them continue like this, the achievements we veterans worked so hard to build will be completely squandered."
The subtext was clear: she intended to train someone who could completely outshine the latest crop of models. When Wen Xiu heard this, she broke into a cold sweat. She had never actually expected Yu Qian to reach such heights, but Fu Wanwan’s arrival had immediately placed immense pressure on the girl. All Wen Xiu could do was hope that Yu Qian wouldn't disappoint her.
But those are matters for another time.
After spending a day settling into the provincial capital, Fu Wanwan took charge of all of Yu Qian’s training. She even held a serious discussion with the nutritionist, only agreeing to keep him on after confirming he was capable of the job. As for the rest—the fitness coach, etiquette teacher, and runway instructor—they were all replaced by people she had brought with her.
The moment she laid eyes on Yu Qian, she found fault with everything.
From her height to her figure and her posture, she was criticized across the board. It was only upon learning that Yu Qian was not yet fourteen that she became slightly satisfied.
"You are still too short; you must grow more. To be a supermodel, your height must be at least 178 centimeters, and 180 is ideal." She paused, then added, "For a model, there is a world of difference between being under 180 and over it. Even a single centimeter makes a huge difference."
Yu Qian was stunned. She remembered plenty of models under 180 cm who were quite successful.
Fu Wanwan saw her skepticism at once. "Unless your proportions are so perfect that you leave those picky designers speechless, they will always choose someone over 180. If you don't believe me, look up the heights of all the Chinese models who have gained even a modicum of international fame."
"I believe you, teacher."
"Send me your class schedule. I need to arrange your training times."
"Okay, I'll have Xiu Xiu give it to you after school starts."
"Xiu Xiu?" Fu Wanwan raised an eyebrow.
"Um... Wen Xiu, my agent."
The head of the studio acting as her agent—it seemed the girl had some backing. But backing was better; the path of a model was even harder to tread than that of an actor or singer.
"Before school starts, be at the company at 7:30 every morning. From breakfast on, you will follow my requirements."
"Understood." Yu Qian looked very obedient on the surface, but internally, she was weeping rivers.
In the past, she could at least have a decent breakfast, but now, she would be "grazing" like a cow.
"Okay, I have nothing else to say. Let's go; I'll introduce you to the others."
"Okay."
Fu Wanwan led her to the training room. Wen Xiu had allocated a massive space for Fu Wanwan, and the rest of the team was already waiting inside. Aside from the original nutritionist, Xu Susu, there was the fitness coach, Qin Yuan, and the etiquette teacher, Tong Wei.
Qin Yuan had joined Fu Wanwan’s team the moment she debuted, and Tong Wei was a former classmate who had joined after Fu Wanwan started walking international runways. When Fu Wanwan’s contract with her previous agency ended, she hadn't brought anyone with her except for these two.
Following her teacher, Yu Qian greeted them politely, and they exchanged introductions. Hearing that she had already begun self-training, the group requested to see where she stood.
