Volume Two, Chapter Fifty-Nine: No Way Back
The curved blade arced through the air, intertwining with the shadows cast by the incarnations, making it impossible to distinguish reality from illusion. As the dazzling blades swept across, nearly every enemy bore wounds. Without pause, the incarnations plunged into the ranks of their foes, engaging in fierce combat.
Even more astonishing, once these incarnations were destroyed, another would materialize from the mirror, seemingly without end.
“Ah! Incarnations—this person is a master of the Incarnation Stage?” Ye Yun was startled by Gu Feng’s actions.
“Don’t be afraid, young master! This is a skill from a magical artifact, just an illusion. It’s not as powerful as the real body,” one expert quickly saw through Gu Feng’s technique.
It seemed the mirror was crafted specifically for Gu Feng. Witnessing its miraculous effect as it hung from him, Yu Mu and his companion found their resentment over the treasure’s seizure quietly fading.
As the incarnations wreaked havoc, the other four werewolves refused to be outdone; they revealed their true forms, following the Silver Wolf’s lead. All these wolves possessed wind attributes, their speed extraordinary.
Their claws slashed, sending blades of wind slicing through the air. These wind blades interwove, forming a luminous crescent. With a sweep of the Silver Wolf’s giant paw, a larger wind blade shattered the crescent, fragments transforming into countless curved blades, spreading across the entire battlefield in an instant.
Where the wind blades struck, Ye Yun was left with a dozen new wounds, and among the remaining disciples of the Fire Poison Sect, two more perished.
“Wow~ That’s incredible!” Yu Mu had never witnessed such a refined combination technique, and was entranced.
“Hmph! The wolf clan is skilled at group tactics, always using numbers to their advantage.” Meng Fang’s heart still harbored resentment over the treasure, unable to let go. Yet even he was secretly awed by such divine skills, understanding now why his uncle valued them so highly.
Seeing their young master wounded, two experts hurried to shield him, inadvertently giving Gu Feng an opportunity.
Though these two were weaker than Gu Feng, together they posed a serious threat. With Ye Yun and the other disciples added, Gu Feng’s group could only hope to last the time it takes an incense stick to burn.
Gu Feng’s left wolf head spoke in human tongue: “Aren’t you leaving? When the time’s up, I won’t be responsible. I won’t risk my clan’s safety just to save you.”
“Then why are you saving us?” Yu Mu couldn’t help but ask.
“As fellow members of Eagle Ridge, helping one another is only natural. Why question it?” This time, the right wolf head answered.
Yu Mu found it fascinating: Gu Feng’s three wolf heads not only wielded different skills, but each had its own mind.
“Then why did you take our things?”
“The treasure wasn’t in your hands, so it wasn’t yours. I’m free to take it. As for aiding my fellows, that’s my duty. What’s the issue?” Gu Feng’s reply made it seem Yu Mu had asked a foolish question, and both struggled to understand his unusual logic.
“Your time is running out. If you keep fussing over such trivial matters, you’re wasting my efforts.”

Ye Yun and his companions gradually adapted to the wolves’ attack patterns, slowly regaining the initiative. Gu Feng seemed truly unable to hold out much longer.
Both knew that, combined, they were no match for the Fire Poison Sect disciples, and so heeded Gu Feng’s advice, prioritizing escape.
Following their earlier plan, they took every left turn, sprinting all the way.
“Ouch~”
“What happened?”
“A shadow spirit startled me.”
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. It vanished.”
They had rounded a corner and unexpectedly collided with a shadow spirit. Both tried to flee, but neither could stop in time; the shadow spirit dispersed like mist before wind as Yu Mu rushed through it.
Meng Fang wore a troubled expression: “We’ve been darting between portals, forgetting about the shadow spirits. I think we should proceed with caution.”
Yu Mu smiled: “No need! They fear me—they won’t come near. Brother, just as before, carry me on your shoulder. That way, I won’t be attacked by shadow spirits, and we’ll move faster.”
Meng Fang was astonished: “Brother, you have such a skill?”
Yu Mu shrugged: “I just discovered it myself.”
“Oh! Then I’ll follow your lead. Let’s hurry and find the exit.” He hoisted Yu Mu onto his shoulder and ran ahead.
After a while, Yu Mu suddenly called, “Brother, stop.”
Meng Fang stopped at once, uncertain what had happened.
“Put me down,” Yu Mu said, pulling Meng Fang along as he descended. “Come with me.”
They rounded a corner and arrived before a portal.
“Ah! How did we end up here?” Meng Fang exclaimed.
In front of the portal lay a pile of bones—the very same entrance where Lu Zihao had been ambushed by Ye Yun.

Yu Mu’s face lit up: “Brother, we’re close to the way out.”
Meng Fang immediately realized: “Yes! This is the first portal we encountered. If we start from here and explore every path to the left and right, we’ll surely find the exit.”
Yu Mu’s eyes sparkled: “Good idea! Still, this place is like a maze—it may take ages to find our way out.”
Meng Fang laughed: “We can use this as a marker!”
Yu Mu saw Meng Fang pointing to the corpse, and suddenly understood, inwardly cursing his own stupidity. The bones had likely lain here for untold years—perfect as a landmark.
They collected the bones and scattered fragments as they walked, marking their path.
As they progressed, Meng Fang suddenly cheered: “Brother, there’s light ahead!”
Yu Mu quickly looked where Meng Fang pointed, and indeed, a faint glow shone in the distance.
“It’s the exit!”
Delighted, they rushed toward the light.
“Ah!? How can this be?”
Reaching the glow, both were shocked. It was indeed the entrance they had used to come in—the familiar dirt and stones still visible—but now the opening had shrunk to little more than a hand’s width, and was closing slowly.
The rat spirit’s warning had come true: the exit was healing itself.
With their retreat cut off, what could they do?
Both were disheartened. Meng Fang, in particular, slumped to the ground in despair.
Yu Mu consoled him: “Brother, don’t lose hope. I believe the designer of this sacred tomb wouldn’t trap every explorer inside with no reason.”
He brandished the bones: “Look, others have come here before us, yet few corpses remain. There must be another way out. Besides, if all else fails, we can find Uncle—he’ll get us out.”
Meng Fang revived at these words: “Yes! We still have Uncle—I almost forgot about him. Come on, let’s go find him.”
