Main Story, Volume Three, Chapter 137: Was It Her You Ate?
An Shu’s face was streaked with tears as she murmured, “You fool, you utter fool. After everything we’ve been through together, did you really think I wouldn’t help you? Why would you do something so stupid? Boo-hoo-hoo…”
Yu Mu struggled to wipe the tears from her face, but inwardly he thought, “I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to hold yourself back and would intervene. Then you’d never be able to face the people of your sect again.”
In truth, just as Ye Yun had feared, Yu Mu had no desire to remain locked in battle with his enemy. The only things that posed a threat to Ye Yun were those three moves. If the fight dragged on and Ye Yun became familiar with them, Yu Mu would lose even his last hope.
Compared with Ye Yun, his cultivation was far inferior, and their mastery of magic arts could not even be mentioned in the same breath. His only advantage lay in his slight superiority in magical artifacts. Beyond that, he had only his natural physical gifts.
As a demon spirit, he surpassed Ye Yun in defense, strength, resistance, and recovery. These were the foundation and trump card on which he relied to oppose Ye Yun, and that was why he had chosen to pit his strengths directly against his opponent’s.
Of course, he had not recklessly challenged Ye Yun to a contest of brute force. The newly acquired hemp battle robe was what he depended on to stay alive.
He had originally hoped that it would once again activate its slipping defense, but unfortunately, that ability had not been triggered this time. Even so, it had blocked the fatal slash for him.
Without its protection, that blow would certainly have cleaved him in two. As it was, only his chest had been opened, while his internal organs remained unharmed. Such an external injury was nothing serious to him.
Looking at the robe, now torn beyond recognition, Yu Mu smiled bitterly to himself. He had only just put it on, yet first it had been pierced by a golden needle, and now it had been slashed open in two places. Its fate was truly tragic.
In fact, Yu Mu had another way to deal with Ye Yun: the mist powder. But he had refrained from using it this time because An Shu was there. He did not want her to witness another scene so hideous.
Yu Mu smiled at An Shu. “Stop crying. I’m fine. He must have some top-grade healing medicine on him. Help me look for it.”
His words jolted her from her daze. “That’s right! The Fire Poison Daoist’s medicines are unparalleled. How could I have forgotten?”
Blaming herself for losing her wits out of concern, An Shu hurriedly searched Ye Yun’s body.
Before long, she pulled two storage pouches from his robes. She had seen Ye Yun frequently use a particular healing medicine while breaking through the trials of Golden Silver Stronghold, so she quickly selected one of the pouches.
Opening it, An Shu poured everything inside onto the sand in one sweep.
As expected, the pouch contained nothing but bottles and jars filled with various medicines.
An Shu picked up a small white jade bottle. “I heard him bragging about this before. It contains the famed healing elixir, Rebirth Pill. This is a spirit medicine. Take it quickly!”
As she spoke, she poured out a pill and moved to place it in Yu Mu’s mouth.
Yu Mu naturally knew how effective the Rebirth Pill was—and he had even taken one before. As he looked at the familiar spirit medicine, the breathtaking face of a peerless beauty rose unbidden before his eyes.
He sighed softly. “There’s no need. My injuries aren’t that serious. Taking such a precious medicine would be a waste. Uh…”
Glug!
Before he could finish, An Shu had already stuffed the pill into his mouth. Immediately afterward, she shot a stream of water into him, washing the pill down. The moment it entered his stomach, its medicinal power dissolved.
Since matters had gone this far, Yu Mu was certainly unwilling to waste such a precious treasure. He hurriedly circulated his energy, using the Spring Renewal Formula to guide the medicine’s power and nourish his wounds.

After a little more than an hour, the medicinal power had been completely absorbed, and Yu Mu stopped circulating his energy. Looking down at his chest, he found that the wound had already healed, though he still could not exert himself too forcefully.
For Yu Mu, using both the spirit elixir and the Spring Renewal Formula to treat such an injury was indeed something of a waste. Even relying solely on his own regenerative ability together with the formula, he could have recovered to this extent in three or four days.
Yu Mu slowly opened his eyes. An Shu cried out delightedly, “It really is a spirit elixir! You’ve recovered this quickly. Hee-hee!”
As she spoke, she poured two more Rebirth Pills from the jade bottle and waved them before Yu Mu.
“Ah! There are two more?” Yu Mu was startled.
It seemed Ye Wentian truly was biased. He had given his daughter only one pill, yet he had given his son three.
Yu Mu slowly rose and walked over to Ye Yun. He kicked him awake.
Whether the pain had already faded or the hatred Yu Mu inspired had made him forget it, Ye Yun seemed no longer troubled by his injuries.
When he awoke, he was remarkably calm. He merely stared coldly at Yu Mu.
Yu Mu’s gaze was even colder. “Did you ever imagine that you would end up like this?”
“Hmph! The victor becomes king and the defeated are disgraced. If you want to kill me, then kill me. Resorting to taunts is all you’re capable of?” Ye Yun spoke with grim resolve.
“Good! Well said. In that case, I’ll grant your wish.”
Yu Mu slowly raised the staff in his hand, but he saw An Shu hesitate. Her face was filled with reluctance, and in the end she simply turned away.
She knew better than anyone about the grudge between Yu Mu and Ye Yun. At its root, she was involved as well, so her feelings at that moment were exceedingly complicated.
Seeing An Shu’s expression, Yu Mu slowly lowered the staff. Instead, he raised his foot and stomped down on Ye Yun’s swollen belly.
Pfft!
Ye Yun violently spewed from his mouth. A great deal of water mixed with the food in his stomach came rushing out. Among the filth were pieces of raw meat that had not yet been digested. Heaven knew what animal he had devoured in his desperation.
Looking at Ye Yun’s miserable state, Yu Mu said slowly, “For her sake, I won’t kill you with my own hands. This kick is punishment for your destruction of the water source. Let’s see how you survive without water. We’re leaving.”
With that, Yu Mu turned to go, pretending not to notice the gratitude in An Shu’s eyes.
In truth, he had made this decision for the sake of someone’s feelings—but that person was not An Shu.
Naturally, An Shu knew nothing of the truth. After giving Yu Mu a grateful look, she placed Ye Yun’s storage pouch and a small waterskin beside him.
In a quiet voice, she said, “Senior Brother, if you see Senior Sister Xiaomei, please give her a message. No matter what happened before, she will always be the senior sister I respect and love. If possible, please ask her to convey my greetings to our master. Please…”
Yu Mu sighed inwardly. “Her heart is far too soft. Even when facing a wicked man, she still possesses compassion. But if she were not so gentle by nature, I would probably have died by her hand long ago.”

Since Yu Mu had already decided to spare him, he naturally would not concern himself with such minor matters.
An Shu left the items behind and turned to run after Yu Mu. But suddenly, Yu Mu stopped. A look of doubt appeared in his eyes, and he slowly turned around before walking back to Ye Yun.
“What is it?” An Shu asked, unable to restrain herself.
Yu Mu ignored her. Instead, he reached into Ye Yun’s robes and pulled out a storage pouch.
An Shu was even more puzzled when she saw it. Wasn’t that the unopened storage pouch she had just returned to Ye Yun?
The moment Ye Yun saw what Yu Mu had done, his face went deathly pale, and despair appeared in his eyes.
Yu Mu gave a cold laugh, opened the pouch, and emptied its contents onto the ground.
“Ugh!”
The moment An Shu saw what lay on the sand, her face turned even paler than Ye Yun’s, and she began to vomit uncontrollably. Even Yu Mu stared in shock, almost unable to believe his eyes.
The pouch had contained human body parts. Clear bite marks covered them, and together with the chunks of flesh Ye Yun had vomited earlier, the grisly truth was laid bare before them.
A sharp glint flashed through Yu Mu’s eyes. He pushed aside the scattered remains and picked up an object, his voice trembling as he asked, “Did you eat…”
His anger was so great that not only his voice but his entire body trembled.
An Shu could no longer bear the sight before her, but upon hearing Yu Mu’s words, she could not help turning back.
“Ah!”
The moment she saw what Yu Mu held in his hand, An Shu let out a mournful cry. Her vision went black, and she fainted.
In Yu Mu’s hand was the long flute from the Tomb of the Saint King. The last time they had seen it, it had been in Xiaomei’s possession. No wonder they had reacted so violently.
“You monster!”
In a fury, Yu Mu smashed Ye Yun into the sand with a blow of his staff. He followed with a relentless barrage of strikes, driving Ye Yun bodily into the ground until only his head remained above the surface.
This time, it was not merely his limbs—every bone in his body had been shattered.
Yu Mu lifted An Shu into his arms and slowly infused her with spiritual energy. Before long, she gradually regained consciousness.
The instant she opened her eyes, she vomited and spat out a mouthful of stagnant blood.
When Yu Mu saw that she had expelled the congestion from her chest, he was overjoyed. If that clotted blood had remained inside her, it would have left her with a hidden ailment.
