Chapter Forty-Six: Obstinate and Unyielding
“Chairman Bai, activating the electromagnetic pulse—each shot is going to cost us a billion!”
Hearing this well-intentioned reminder from his subordinate, the pimply man instantly drew his gun and aimed it at the bodyguard’s head. Terrified, the latter immediately shouted to the others, “Start the electromagnetic pulse right now! Force that brat into the center of the blast crater!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, gunfire erupted in a dense hail. The deadly sound set the pimply man’s nerves on edge. He didn’t bother to count how many rounds had been fired anymore. At this moment, he had only one thought: catch Mu You, kill him, and take his Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm!
Anyone who could survive this long, who could kill Bai Zai—the owner of a high-ranking workworm—must possess a truly exceptional Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm. Perhaps it was even… a half-step lord worm.
Death Row Paradise owed its formidable reputation among the upper echelon not to its government connections or its vast financial empire, but to the fact that it occasionally released to the outside world those irresistible Meridian Soul-Breaker Worms.
In this world, the elite had long grown numb to the pleasures of high-quality living. They sought the ultimate thrill. Some wanted to expand their power; others would stop at nothing, resorting to every means imaginable for secret, unspeakable goals.
So, for these people, the ability to soar through the skies or burrow beneath the earth became the next object of pursuit. In this, the Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm could fulfill their desires to a remarkable extent. Even with suffocating prices and abysmally low success rates for modification, countless patrons spared no effort to obtain it.
Imagine, if the Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm were introduced into the military or even the political arena, what horrifying changes it would bring.
Thus, by independently mastering the core technology to breed the Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm, Death Row Paradise secured its unshakable and unique position. No other force dared provoke it, nor could any organization, not even the government, swallow it whole.
Rumor had it, too, that behind Death Row Paradise lurked a forbidden organization so frightening that even the government spoke its name in hushed tones…
Therefore, the chance to acquire a Meridian Soul-Breaker Worm so precious that even Death Row Paradise would hesitate to part with it—its value was simply incalculable!
It had to be obtained, even at a bloody cost!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunfire echoed as Mu You, cackling wildly, darted through the hail of bullets. He was gradually forced toward the spot where Zunye had fallen—a place devastated by the previous blast. The shooters had completely surrounded the site, their bullets forming a net so dense Mu You couldn’t advance. He could only use his blood-red, translucent wings to shield his body from further harm.
No one knew how those blood-crystal wings behind Mu You were constructed, but bullets that could pierce inch-thick steel now left only fingertip-sized holes. Still, some wings had already begun to shatter, and a few bullets, undeterred, struck Mu You’s body.
“Hm?”
The laughing, shrieking “Mu You” suddenly made a doubtful sound.
He looked down in surprise and saw the bullet wound in his abdomen, blood flowing down and crystallizing into blood-red gems as it hit the ground with a crisp, ringing sound.
With his own hand, “Mu You” split open the wound, his blood-soaked fingers extracting the bullet. He held it up to his eyes and examined it for a long moment.
“That stings a little. I’m actually wounded—ha! I’ve been hurt by a bunch of ants! Well, courtesy must be returned in kind—take it all back!”
His blood-crystal wings burst open. As flames surged, every bullet embedded in the wings shot back, crashing into the incoming hail of bullets. In the sky, brilliant sparks exploded, some bullets even blasting apart their shooters, leaving fist-sized holes in their bodies.
“What, are you stupid? I can fly!”
Breaking through the curtain of bullets, “Mu You” soared skyward. Blood pooled again from his chest, mending the shattered crystal feathers. In the open sky, Mu You moved with even greater agility, flitting from position to position, impossible to target.
“What’s wrong? Out of bullets? Then my turn begins!”
With that, “Mu You” pressed his left hand to his chest, staining his palm with blood, then slowly opened it toward the crowd below.
As the blood trickled along his palm’s lines, it turned a brilliant crimson gold. Six drops of blood floated in the air, radiating an eerie, dangerous aura.
“ShowTime! Let’s begi—hm?”
Before he could finish, a steel cable suddenly wrapped around his raised left hand. A surge of electricity shot down his arm and through his body, abruptly cutting off his attack.
The next instant, chains bound Mu You’s limbs and neck, the strange blood-crystal wings especially shackled with seven or eight chains.
Then, over a dozen electric currents surged into Mu You indiscriminately. His entire body was shrouded in a ghostly blue glow, the crackling of electrodes overhead sending chills down the spines of all who heard it.
Mu You’s body convulsed uncontrollably with each wave of electricity—each current strong enough to knock out even a dangerous death row convict!
At some point, men wielding capture devices had converged from all sides. The young man leading them glared at Mu You with a murderous, vengeful gleam.
“Mu You” slowly curled himself into a ball.
“Ah!”
A low growl rose as blood-red flames flickered, quickly engulfing the blue light.
With a sudden convulsion, Mu You shattered the electric glow. The crimson light blazed brighter, flames surging along the steel cables in a reverse current toward the stunned capture team.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The fire shattered the cable launchers. In the explosions, heads burst open, bodies dropped, black smoke rising from each corpse.
“I was just about to enjoy myself, and you ants dare hinder me? How overconfident you must be!”
Countless blood-red feathers shot from his wings, shattering every chain. With a casual gesture, “Mu You” sent them spinning around him.
“Go!”
With a sweep of his hand, the blood-crystal feathers became crystalline darts, shooting toward every living thing on the ground.
After the thunderous roar came a brief silence. Then, as if in one final flare, nearly a hundred ghostly blue steel cables shot toward “Mu You,” ensnaring every part of his body. Some even pierced straight through his bones.
“Stubborn fools!” Bound tight as a mummy, “Mu You” gazed coldly and impassively at the crowd below, treating his peril as nothing.
“The fool is you! A beast stripped of human rights—how dare you act so arrogant!”
The young man roared, his brows echoing the features of Old Madam Xiao.
As if answering his words, a giant net descended from the sky, shrouding “Mu You” in layer after layer. The iron cables tightened, yanking him from the sky like a meteor and slamming him straight into the deepest pit!
