Chapter 133: Monochrome Memories
Silence. Amid the boundless violet radiance, there was only a deathly silence.
Everyone present, including the instructors, stared at the scene before them in utter shock. A casual strike from the Imperial Arm “Snake Woman: Ghost Tathagata” had actually reached such terrifying heights, completely overwhelming Jing Dule, the S-rank death-row inmate who had seemed invincible only moments before.
“Hm?”
Ghost Tathagata frowned slightly. Something felt wrong beneath his hand. He had felt neither the shattering of an Imperial Arm nor the sensation of flesh being crushed into pulp.
The violet skull rose once more, then crashed down with tremendous force.
Boom!
Yet the agonized scream everyone expected still failed to come.
The crowd was bewildered. In theory, even with only Ghost Tathagata awakened, the poisonous Imperial Arm “Snake Woman: Ghost Tathagata” possessed strength far beyond what a newly promoted S-rank like Jing Dule could withstand. And yet, after repeated blows from within the abyss, there was still none of the blood and gore they had anticipated.
“Damn, that turtle shell is tough!”
Seeing that several strikes had achieved nothing, the amusement in Ghost Tathagata’s eyes gradually faded, replaced by a trace of cruelty. A peerless powerhouse reduced to an Imperial Arm was still unwilling to allow a lowly insect to struggle beneath his hand.
“In that case…”
A vicious glint flashed through Ghost Tathagata’s eyes. He clamped one enormous hand onto the skull and began applying pressure, little by little, beyond what he had used before.
“I shall crush you into a meat patty with my own hands… It has been a long time since I tasted human flesh…”
Crack…
The sound of some extraordinarily sturdy barrier breaking rang out.
Crack, crack…
The fractures came faster and faster. Gradually, the silver radiance of the Ministerial Arm Thousand-Eyed Demon began to flow outward, as though bursting through some invisible barrier and revealing itself once more before the crowd.
Under the silver light, everyone could vaguely make out a humanoid figure composed entirely of obsidian, pinning Jing Dule beneath it. As the black stone figure began to crumble, the monster’s appearance became clear.
Jing Fei.
“Brother…”
Jing Dule opened the eyes he had squeezed shut in terror. The person who had shielded him from that fatal blow was none other than the brother he had encountered again after so many years—the man who had infiltrated Death Row Paradise at some unknown time and frantically accumulated points, all so that Jing Dule could remain immersed in an endless stream of pain and despair.
Yes, he had succeeded.
Even at the very end, even at the edge of life and death, he still refused to let Jing Dule die and find release.
Did he truly want his younger brother to suffer so badly?
“You stinking idiot… You’ve always been a self-righteous, stinking idiot!”
As black, stone-like blood dripped ceaselessly from Jing Fei’s severed limbs, Jing Dule did not know why, but drops of bloody tears began to well in his hollow eye sockets.
“You should have let me die. Why did you come to Death Row Paradise? Someone had to pay the price for this. If I died, wouldn’t that have been enough? Two people despairing together—is that supposed to be fun?”
“How could I let my little brother suffer alone? I’m your brother, after all!”
Jing Fei’s hoarse voice rang out. He looked at Jing Dule with calm, gentle eyes. But in the next instant, his cracked arm suddenly pierced straight through Jing Dule’s chest while he was caught off guard.
As Jing Dule’s eyes widened in disbelief, a fierce, razor-sharp glint appeared for the first time in Jing Fei’s utterly feeble gaze.
“That’s why I have to butcher you with my own hands, little brother! How could I let anyone else have their wish before me? Do you think I know nothing? Did you really believe that you were the only one capable of seeing into other people’s memories? I can do it too. Why don’t I lay your filthiest memories bare before everyone and let them decide whether my own little brother deserves to be butchered by me, his elder brother?”
Jing Fei, his entire body pitch-black, and Jing Dule, bathed in silver radiance, knelt together. The black and white lights began to merge, finally forming a hazy gray scene—
“Brother, come on! I just bought a Ferrari. I’ll take you and Sister-in-law out for a drive. My friend’s bar is opening today, too, so I’ve arranged a little gathering. We can celebrate your company going public while we’re at it!”
Inside a villa, the bright, uninhibited laughter of a young man rang through the air. Jing Dule twirled a ring of keys as he burst into the master bedroom, threw an arm around Jing Fei’s shoulders, and said with a delighted grin,
