Chapter 119: The Hybrid King
Everything around him began to collapse. The entire city dissolved into a phantom, then solidified once more—only to reveal an entirely different scene.
This is… Mu You felt an inexplicable familiarity with the sight.
This is Half-Moon Island!
Yet judging by the scene before him, this too must have been a sight from several years ago. Mu You could vaguely make out the Twin Towers, which were still under construction at the time. All around them stood rural brick houses that had yet to be fully developed, along with a few thatched huts.
A quarrel was coming from the most dilapidated hut of them all.
“Father, it was him! He was the one who harassed me!”
“Damn you, brat! How dare you lay a hand on my precious daughter? I’ll beat you to death!”
A middle-aged man’s furious roar rang out, followed by the sounds of fists and feet raining down, mixed with muffled groans of pain.
“No! Please, don’t beat my child! I beg you, don’t!”
At the same time, a woman’s pleading voice rose from within.
Mu You was suddenly dragged into the room by a powerful force. Before he could recover, he found himself being savagely beaten by a group of burly men.
“I’ll beat you to death, you bastard! Born of a father but raised without one! How dare you take liberties with my daughter? What are you looking at? Believe it or not, I’ll kill you!”
Although “Mu You” was caught in a storm of blows, a trace of blood already seeping from the corner of his mouth, he continued to glare fiercely at the faces of the men around him, etching every one of them into his memory.
“I… am not… a bastard. You can curse my father, but I won’t allow you to insult my mother!”
While shielding his vital organs, Mu You argued with all his strength.
“Oh, you’re not? Your father is. That makes you the bastard of a bastard—the King of Bastards! Your father was a worthless thug who did nothing but loaf around all day and harass decent women. He took advantage of your mother being an orphan, used her, and then abandoned her. That’s how you came into this world. Because of you, your mother has been a widow all these years, living alone and helpless while raising you. And yet you’re just like that scum of a father—unable to control your lust, daring to set your sights on my daughter!”
“I said, don’t insult my mother!”
“Mu You” suddenly began struggling like a madman, trying to lunge at the man spewing filth. But the man struck him hard in the face and sent him crashing back to the floor.
“No! Please! If you want someone, take it out on me! Just stop beating my son!”
At last, Mu You’s mother forced her way through the crowd and threw herself over him, shielding him from every blow.
But by then, “Mu You” had been completely consumed by rage. He fought desperately beneath her. His mother was his forbidden subject, and that inhuman father of his was another. These people were only daring to act so ruthlessly because they knew he and his mother had no one to rely on.
The moment “Mu You” managed to expose a leg, someone viciously kicked him back down.
“I’m not a bastard, and I didn’t harass her! I only looked at her once. She ran away crying as if I were disgusting!”
“You shut your mouth!” the young woman standing in the middle of the room snarled.
She tightened the collar of her clothes and spoke with utter disgust. “Looking isn’t allowed either! Who knows what you were planning to do next? Look at me again and I’ll gouge your eyes out!”
“You… you people are going too far!”
“Oh, listen to the little bastard talk! So what if we bully you? What are you going to do about it—reach the heavens?”
One of the burly men was provoked by the ferocity on Mu You’s face. His own vicious nature flared up, and he picked up a liquor bottle from the floor before smashing it down toward “Mu You.”
Crash!
Glass shards flew in every direction, and the room fell silent.
Mu You felt warm liquid running down his face, yet there was no pain. When he opened his eyes, he saw his mother standing in front of him. Blood was spraying from her forehead, and one of her eyes had been punctured and destroyed by a shard of glass.
“Mom!”
“Mu You” let out a heart-rending scream.
Rage.
For the first time in his life, “Mu You” felt such overwhelming fury. It was a murderous hatred, a desire to kill every person in the room.
He tried desperately to charge outside, but his mother held him tightly. Then she turned her head and looked at everyone in the room with an indescribable expression.
“My son only looked at your daughter once. I’ve paid her with one of my eyes. You can let us go now, can’t you?”
After speaking, Mu You’s mother stared pitifully at the young woman with her hands on her hips, using the one eye she had left.
The girl averted her gaze and snorted coldly. Then she waved for everyone to leave. As she twisted her ample hips, she did not forget to turn around and viciously warn the mother and son clinging to each other inside the hut.
“Take this as a lesson. I’m letting you off cheap this time. If you ever bother me again… just you wait!”
With that, the woman took her father’s hand and left arrogantly, leaving only the mother and son behind, silently shedding tears.
“Does it hurt? Did they injure you badly?”
Once the others had finally disappeared, his mother immediately began feeling over “Mu You’s” body, examining his injuries.
“Why didn’t you fight back?”
The hands moving over “Mu You’s” body froze.
“You knew perfectly well that I hadn’t done anything wrong. Why did you let them bully us?”
“Child, we can’t afford to offend those people. Mother only wants you to live a happy life.”
His mother explained this with unbearable sorrow.
“Let me live a happy life?!”
At that moment, “Mu You” seemed to have heard the greatest joke in the world. He looked at his still-bleeding mother with a cold laugh.
“Look at what you look like. What kind of happy life can you possibly give me?”
His mother’s entire body trembled when she heard this.
“Why are other people so powerful and imposing, while our family has to live in such wretched misery? And you still call this a happy life? What kind of happiness is this?”
All the grievances he had endured throughout his childhood erupted at once. “Mu You” screamed his questions at his mother, but when he saw her eyes—one blood-red, the other clouded and yellow—pity and heartache rose once more from the depths of his heart.
“Why should I, a child, have to bear the mistakes you made when you were young… Forget it. I’m used to it. Hurry and treat your wounds.”
After saying this, “Mu You” shoved his mother aside and ran out of the hut on his own. His mother’s cries followed him, but by then tears were streaming down his face, and he had already broken into a headlong sprint.
Why? Why did he have to live such a miserable life? Why was he forced to endure humiliation at the hands of others? Why did he have to be a bastard?
He refused to accept this fate. He absolutely refused. He would resist—he had to resist. No one would ever bully him again. No one!
“Mu You” ran all the way to the riverbank, then dropped to his knees, panting heavily. He frantically washed his face in the river, scrubbing away the blood and tears.
When “Mu You” lifted his head and looked at his reflection in the water, Mu You was stunned to discover that the young man’s body hair was unusually thick. He was unkempt, and his features were hideously ugly. No wonder so many people despised him.
Wasn’t this man… Instructor Fu Nian?
