Volume One: Our Own League Chapter 10: The Most Unique Team
After the discussion concluded, Li Liying left.
Clap, clap, clap!
Zhu Ge immediately clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention to him.
He said, "Allow me to introduce the person beside me—Mu Yang, our vice-captain and coach."
Xu He was startled and looked up at the man standing next to Zhu Ge.
The man sported a subtle Mohawk, giving him a cool appearance. He was tall and sturdy, half a head taller and broader than Zhu Ge. Although Zhu Ge was already more robust than most of his peers, Mu Yang made him look even stockier. Zhu Ge’s build leaned slightly toward plumpness, while Mu Yang’s was true muscular robustness, his muscles firm and well-defined.
Of course, compared to Zhong Haokun, Mu Yang still seemed smaller and less imposing. Zhong Haokun was an anomaly—no ordinary person could match him.
Xu He couldn’t help but click his tongue, muttering, “Wow, our team really isn’t ordinary.”
Mu Yang greeted everyone, “Hello, I’m Mu Yang.”
Cool!
His voice was as cool as his outfit, and with his entire demeanor, he was the embodiment of cool from head to toe.
Xu He immediately joined the others, applauding to welcome him.
Zhu Ge was pleased with everyone's response and continued, “From today onward, Mu Yang is in charge of our daily training. You all answer to him… I answer to him too.”
Xu He and Li Jie exchanged a glance, both deeply shocked.
Who was Mu Yang, that the captain regarded him so highly?
Xu He’s curiosity about Mu Yang grew.
But Mu Yang didn’t give Xu He a chance to investigate. In his cool tone, he commanded, “Everyone, follow me!”
With that, Mu Yang jogged leisurely toward the rubber track.
Everyone paused, then followed Mu Yang under Zhu Ge’s lead.
The ten or so members of Class Ten’s football team began a slow jog around the field.
Xu He jogged alongside Li Jie, keeping pace with the group, his mind full of doubts. Wasn’t training supposed to start? What was the point of jogging?
At this moment, they weren’t the only team training on the field.
The other teams launched right into football drills, practicing internal matches as soon as they arrived.
But Class Ten not only refrained from touching the ball—they began with running.
Mu Yang jogged ahead, coolly instructing, “Pay attention to your breathing rhythm. Your breath should match your steps, and don’t land with your whole foot…”
Xu He was baffled—were they a football team or an athletics squad? This was truly unorthodox!
The jogging wasn’t strenuous, but after three laps around the four-hundred-meter track, their bodies were warmed up and their breathing somewhat labored.
Mu Yang led everyone back to the pitch and said coolly, “Everyone warmed up? From now on, every training session starts with three laps to warm up.”
Xu He realized—it was just a warm-up before training!
He chuckled wryly to himself, realizing how ignorant he’d been. Mu Yang seemed to know his stuff.
Xu He looked forward eagerly to the rest of the training.
Now that they were warmed up, surely they’d start playing, right?
Suddenly, Mu Yang announced, “Forward group, midfield group, defender group—line up for thirty-meter shuttle runs!”
Xu He exclaimed, “Huh? More running?”
Mu Yang frowned slightly, fixing his gaze on Xu He and said coldly, “What, do you have an objection?”
The whole team instantly turned their eyes on him.
Xu He shook his head rapidly, “No, no, no!”
Seeing Xu He’s response, Mu Yang ignored him and turned to the others, saying coolly, “Run with everything you’ve got—I want to see your top speed.”
Everyone responded loudly, “Understood!”
Though they didn’t know why they weren’t practicing with the ball but instead focusing on running, Xu He was confident in his speed—he was sure he was the fastest on the team.
He was the king of speed here.
But his teammates’ attention shifted to Lin Xuefeng, and they whispered among themselves, “Xuefeng’s probably the fastest among us. He’ll be first this time.”
Even Lin Xuefeng’s female fans nearby shouted, “Xuefeng is always number one!”
Xu He frowned slightly.
Li Jie came up beside Xu He, grinning, “Looks like you’ve got a rival!”
Xu He replied proudly, “When it comes to speed, I’m absolutely confident!”
Li Jie clenched his fist, “Go for it!”
Standing at the starting line, Xu He’s eyes grew sharp, and he thought, “Running—I’ve never feared anyone! Come on, Lin Xuefeng!”
The forward group lined up at the start; besides Xu He and Lin Xuefeng, there were three other teammates.
At that moment, all eyes focused on Lin Xuefeng.
Mu Yang raised his right hand, eyes locked on Lin Xuefeng—he wanted to see just how fast this legendary player was.
Mu Yang blew the whistle, cheeks puffed.
With a whoosh, Lin Xuefeng shot out like a blur, a gust trailing behind him.
Fast!
He was incredibly fast.
Mu Yang couldn’t help but marvel, “Lin Xuefeng truly lives up to his reputation!”
But—
How could this be?
A wave of astonished exclamations erupted on the scene, voices filled with disbelief.
Even the worldly Mu Yang widened his eyes in shock.
Lin Xuefeng was indeed fast.
But someone was even faster.
Xu He!
Leading the pack, Xu He exploded with every ounce of strength, darting ahead like a rocket slicing through clouds, leaving Lin Xuefeng more than a body length behind.
Fast!
Unbelievably fast!
Li Jie watched, his blood racing, bursting with pride for his friend.
“Amazing, Xu He! You’re incredible!”
Li Jie pumped his fist.
Everyone from Class Ten was stunned!
No one expected the so-called “backdoor entrant” to be so fast—they could hardly believe what they saw.
Lin Xuefeng’s speed had already crushed their hopes, but now someone even more formidable appeared.
Seriously, how could anyone keep up?
Watching that figure at the front, Mu Yang’s mouth hung open, speechless.
Such explosive power, such speed—phenomenal!
Zhu Ge was first surprised, then delighted; he never expected Xu He to be so fast, which would strengthen their team even further—a pleasant surprise indeed.
Xu He pushed himself to the limit, determined to show everyone his worth—he was not here by chance.
Thirty meters flashed by, Xu He stopped sharply and turned, seamlessly launching himself back.
Fast!
So fast there was a blur in his wake.
Lin Xuefeng, chasing Xu He, gritted his teeth and gave everything he had, but still couldn’t catch up. His shock was as great as anyone's.
He never expected Xu He to be this fast.
In terms of speed, he had never conceded to anyone, but today, before Xu He, he admitted defeat.
Xu He was truly fast.
When Xu He reached the finish, he was two body lengths ahead of Lin Xuefeng.
Zhu Ge and Mu Yang were both thrilled—Xu He had extraordinary speed and agility; he was a formidable player.
Zhu Ge approached Xu He with delight, patting his shoulder, “Xu He, you’re incredible!”
Lin Xuefeng, returning, gave Xu He a thumbs-up.
Xu He’s performance stunned everyone and ensured that he would be remembered.
No one dared to underestimate Xu He anymore.
Li Jie, excited, gave Xu He a hug, saying, “Now no one will dare look down on you!”
Naturally, Xu He was very happy, but he didn’t let it go to his head.
He knew he still had far to go and needed to learn humbly and train diligently.
So, in the following training, he worked attentively and tirelessly.
This earned him deeper respect from everyone.
Many teammates now looked at Xu He with newfound admiration.
Even before the training session ended, Xu He had made his mark, gradually gaining acceptance from his teammates, and no one regarded him as just a “backdoor entrant” anymore.
Xu He not only had talent, but he also worked hard.
There was nothing to criticize about such a person.
His teammates gradually accepted him, and during training, they joked and chatted with him, getting along well.
Xu He was genuinely happy.
But he was full of doubts.
After the thirty-meter shuttle run, Mu Yang led them through cone drills, forward and backward lateral jumps, vertical jumps, crossover steps, obstacle jumps—everything without the ball.
For Xu He and most of his teammates, these drills were unfamiliar.
They didn’t quite understand.
Why not train with the football?
They came to play football, not to train for track and field!
On the same field, other teams didn’t do any non-ball training; instead, they focused on ball drills and internal matches.
Xu He and his teammates preferred the methods of the other teams—they were here to play, after all.
What was the point of training without the ball?
Their team was truly unique.
Other teams’ members watched their training with undisguised derision, thinking they were just showing off, trying to be different, and believed it was useless. Some even looked down on Class Ten’s team, not taking them seriously at all.
Those looks made Xu He uncomfortable. He was also deeply puzzled, but he still completed Mu Yang’s training tasks meticulously.
Though it was tiring, everyone found joy in it.
After the non-ball training ended, Mu Yang gave everyone a five-minute break.
Sitting at the edge of the field to rest, Xu He suddenly asked Li Jie, “Do you think Coach Mu’s training is useful?”
He glanced at the other teams’ training, worry faintly showing on his face.
After all, no other team had non-ball training.
Li Jie didn’t know if Mu Yang’s methods worked, but he knew Zhu Ge was aiming for the championship. Since Zhu Ge trusted Mu Yang, why shouldn’t he?
Li Jie said, “The captain supports it fully, so it must be useful!”
Xu He nodded, glancing at Zhu Ge.
He thought, if the captain trusts him, why should I doubt?
Xu He smiled at Li Jie, saying no more.
Truthfully, Xu He found this kind of training pretty good—it made them seem more like a professional team, at least on the surface.
After the break, Mu Yang had everyone do passing and receiving drills, possession circles, dribbling around cones, and other ball drills.
During these ball drills, Xu He realized Mu Yang’s skill.
The coach’s training repertoire was vast.
And it wasn’t aimless.
Xu He felt Mu Yang was capable and mysterious.
Of course, he was also terse, aloof, and cool.
After the ball drills, Mu Yang gave everyone another five-minute break.
When the rest ended, Mu Yang called everyone together and said, “Next, we’ll have an internal training match!”
Xu He was overjoyed—finally, a game!
He’d waited so long.
He wanted to show his teammates his strength, to prove he wasn’t just a backdoor entrant!
Xu He fixed his gaze on everyone, thinking, “Just watch—I, Xu He, am no less than anyone!”
