Chapter Ninety-Four: Slaying a Legend
In the depths of the forest, Myth of the Left Hand was fleeing in a panic. Fear had taken hold of his heart. From the party information, he knew that Spirit Fox Divine Moon had already died, but he had no intention of turning back. Night Chen’s power terrified him, especially that dragon magic; he did not want to face it, and he did not want to die.
Panting hard, he ran on and on until he had nearly reached the edge of the Demon Forest. Feeling somewhat safe, he stopped and bent there, gasping for breath. Yet before he could even rejoice at escaping Ye Chen’s grasp, a cool, indifferent voice suddenly sounded behind him.
“Run, then. Why aren’t you running anymore? Keep running.”
“Who is it!?” Myth of the Left Hand shrieked, his voice trembling with unmistakable fear. He spun around abruptly and saw Ye Chen’s cold smile. Frightened, he nearly collapsed to the ground, his face draining white as he threatened, “What do you want? You can’t kill me. If you dare kill me, Spirit Fox will never let you get away with it!”
Ye Chen looked at him with amusement, only then realizing that this fellow was rather foolish. He had already killed Spirit Fox Divine Moon three times; he had long since made an enemy of Spirit Fox to the bitter end, yet this idiot still thought to threaten him with it. “Would I be afraid of Spirit Fox? If I were, I wouldn’t have killed Spirit Fox Divine Moon over and over again.”
Myth of the Left Hand shrank back in terror. Seeing that Ye Chen did not seem inclined to strike at once, hope rose in his heart again. “Money. I have money. As long as you don’t kill me, I can pay you. I’ll buy my own life, buy back this level’s experience.”
“Oh? Then tell me how much you can pay. If the price is reasonable, I can consider it.” Ye Chen glanced at him with a half-smile. He truly could not understand how this man’s mind worked. Did he really think Ye Chen would let him go? Dream on. Still, if he could get something extra out of it, Ye Chen would not refuse.
“Two hundred. How about two hundred?” Myth of the Left Hand offered.
“Two hundred? Back when you bought the Crimson Beauty Pill, wasn’t it more than that? Everyone in Blaze City knows how rich Left Hand Brother is. And yet this little bit of money is all you can bring out?” Ye Chen let out a contemptuous snort. He had indeed made a good bit of money these past two days, but compared with Myth of the Left Hand, who had been making a fortune for half a month already, it was nothing. Just look at the bronze set and silver weapon on this guy, and one could tell he was not short on cash. Since that was the case, Ye Chen would be failing himself if he did not carve a piece of meat off him.
“Five hundred. No more. Any more and I’d rather not lose this level,” Myth of the Left Hand screamed. The pitiful fool still had no idea he was about to lose a full set of equipment, or he would have gone mad on the spot.
“Fine, then five hundred. Come, let’s trade.” Ye Chen stepped forward.
“Wait. If I give you the money, what if you still kill me?” Myth of the Left Hand finally showed a rare flash of cleverness. At that, Ye Chen’s grip on his staff tightened slightly; he had already intended to kill Myth of the Left Hand. But at that moment, the man tried to outsmart him and said, “I’ll give you one hundred first, and send the remaining four hundred after I return to town, how about that?” As he spoke, a sly light even flashed through his eyes, clearly intending to ignore Ye Chen once he got back to town.
This did not escape Ye Chen’s eyes. He sneered inwardly, though on the surface he wore a greedy expression. “That won’t do. What if you renege later? Then I’d be the one losing out. Five hundred, no less. Pay up, and you can leave.”
“No. At most I’ll give you two hundred and fifty. Otherwise, there’s nothing to discuss. I won’t default on you.” Myth of the Left Hand considered it and decided that saving half was not bad.
Ye Chen did not expect him to pay in full anyway. Since it was all a trap, even one more copper coin was good. Still, to lull Myth of the Left Hand’s vigilance, he put on an embarrassed look and wrangled with him a little longer. At last, they settled on three hundred. During the bargaining, Myth of the Left Hand’s guard fell sharply, and Ye Chen cheerfully completed the trade with him.
“The remaining two hundred gold coins, I’ll definitely give them to you. Then I’ll be going first...” Myth of the Left Hand thought to himself that money was omnipotent. Three hundred gold coins for a level and one piece of equipment did not seem like a loss at all. He even cursed Ye Chen for being a fool; as for the remaining two hundred gold coins, he had no intention of actually paying them. Before leaving, he still wanted to say a few polite words, but before he could finish, Ye Chen suddenly began chanting a spell. A strand of black flame was rapidly condensing on the other’s staff.
“Damn it, you actually broke your word! I’m fighting you to the death!” Myth of the Left Hand had not expected Ye Chen to abandon the two hundred gold coins and turn to attack him instead. Immediately enraged, he felt the humiliation of being toyed with, and this fool of a youth, who had always thought highly of himself, flew into a rage. Roaring, he launched an attack as well.
Bang. Seven hundred and thirteen.
Ye Chen’s black fireball struck Myth of the Left Hand first, instantly crippling his little over eight hundred life points.
Minus two hundred and thirty-six.
Fortunately, this fellow was a holy cleric, whose skill attack power was the lowest of the lot. Otherwise, if it had been another mage with a silver weapon, Ye Chen would have been in for a hard time. There was no help for it; while a full intelligence build was brutally offensive, his life points were truly pathetic, not even reaching five hundred in total. With that hit, he was already down to half health.
Myth of the Left Hand suddenly seemed to realize that Ye Chen was not as ferocious as he had imagined. With Ye Chen reduced to half health, his remaining vitality should be over three hundred. If, if he scored another critical hit, he might actually be able to kill Ye Chen in one blow. Thinking this, Myth of the Left Hand, like a drowning man clutching a straw, frantically gulped down a special potion that instantly restored two hundred and fifty health, and with a vicious expression on his face, prepared to launch his next attack.
Glug. Plus two hundred.
Ye Chen swallowed a Blood-Condensing Pill, and his life returned almost to full.
Myth of the Left Hand seemed to witness something beyond belief. The light of Retribution that had just gathered before him suddenly dispersed. He pointed at Ye Chen and screamed, “Impossible! Impossible! How could you have an instant-heal potion? Impossible. I never even made a two-hundred instant-heal potion myself. You... you...”
“For that question, you can go ask the great god of reincarnation in the Temple of Souls,” Ye Chen said with a slight smile, with no intention of explaining anything. His staff trembled, and another black fireball shot toward Myth of the Left Hand, leaving the opponent to go mad in ignorance and confusion.
Bang. Minus six hundred and fifty-eight.
A blood-red damage number floated above Myth of the Left Hand’s head, and the defensive power of the bronze set made Ye Chen quietly admire it.
Crash.
A full nine pieces of bronze equipment slipped off Myth of the Left Hand’s body. Before he had even fully turned into a streak of white light, his face went utterly pale, his eyes filled with disbelief. He clearly had never dreamed that he would explode so badly. Before he could curse Ye Chen even once, he was completely consumed by light and vanished.
Ye Chen grinned. Taking a few steps forward, he crouched down and swept the equipment into his pack. Just as he was about to stand, a chill suddenly crept down his back. At the same time, 2058’s urgent shout rang in his ear:
“Watch out.”
