Chapter Sixty-Six: Farewell, Left Hand
Although Furious Tiger Roar hated Ye Chen to death, surrounded by more than ten members of Dragon Soar, he knew he stood no chance. Rather than humiliating himself further, it was better to retreat and live to fight another day. So he slunk away with a few of his followers, but not before throwing out some vicious threats, vowing to kill Ye Chen the next time he found him alone...
Once Furious Tiger Roar and his group had disappeared, Dragon Soar Star-Slayer grinned and began to introduce Ye Chen to the team. Aside from Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed, there were eleven other players, all members of Dragon Soar’s Third Elite Squad—Star-Slayer’s own subordinates. Their levels were just over twenty, and several were venturing into the Rocky Forest for the first time.
“Why are we still missing someone?” Ye Chen asked, a little puzzled. If the last person was also from Dragon Soar, he shouldn’t dare to let Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed, a higher-up in the guild, wait here.
Star-Slayer grimaced helplessly. “You know him, too—the kid known as Left-Handed Legend. His original team broke up, and he insisted on coming with us. You know we still have to buy our ordinary potions from him, so it’s not good to disrespect him.”
“When’s he arriving? As long as he doesn’t delay us entering the dungeon, it’s fine,” Ye Chen replied indifferently, remembering that he’d stolen some business from the guy himself.
Star-Slayer glanced at the time. “He should be here soon. He said he’d arrive before 23:50. Ah—there he is.” He pointed ahead, and Ye Chen followed his gaze. Sure enough, Left-Handed Legend appeared, strutting ostentatiously with his gear’s glow effect activated. His entire body shone with a blue light—clearly a full set of bronze-grade equipment—and his weapon gleamed with silver, a rare silver-grade armament.
“Such waste,” Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed and Star-Slayer muttered in low voices, and Ye Chen smiled, understanding what they meant. For a Holy Light Priest whose main role was healing, that gear was indeed extravagant.
Despite their comments, Star-Slayer still stepped forward to greet him. “Legend, you’re right on time.”
“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Left-Handed Legend said smoothly, though his expression betrayed no hint of apology, only a brash arrogance. He was the only level five alchemist in Fierce Mountain City—what family would dare snub him? People like Star-Slayer barely registered in his eyes. His gaze swept over the Dragon Soar members until he paused at Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed, his arrogance momentarily subdued as he exclaimed with surprise, “Well, well, I never expected you, Brother Thief, to give me such face—personally accompanying me into the dungeon.”
Ye Chen couldn’t help but laugh; Left-Handed Legend’s self-regard was truly remarkable.
“Who are you? What are you laughing at?” Left-Handed Legend immediately noticed Ye Chen’s laughter and looked at him with annoyance. He frowned at Star-Slayer. “Hey, Star-Slayer, this guy isn’t from Dragon Soar, right? Kick him out—I don’t like the look of him. If Brother Thief is accompanying me into the dungeon, I don’t want anyone around who bothers me.”
Shameless, Star-Slayer cursed inwardly. Who the hell are you calling ‘little brother’? Do you outrank me? And now you want to kick Ye Chen? He’s the star today, and Brother Thief didn’t come for you, you idiot. With these thoughts, Star-Slayer’s smile faded, his face stiffening as he replied, “Legend, I’m afraid I can’t grant that request. Brother Ye Chen is a distinguished guest invited by Dragon Soar. And by the way, Brother Thief isn’t here to accompany you into the dungeon. He’s not that idle.”
Left-Handed Legend’s face darkened at Star-Slayer’s use of ‘little brother’, and as he listened further, his anger flared. “Distinguished guest? More distinguished than me? If Brother Thief isn’t here for me, is he here for him?”
“Legend, if you want to join us, behave yourself and don’t cause trouble,” Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed said coldly, locking eyes with Left-Handed Legend. “Let me tell you, Brother Ye Chen is indeed a more distinguished guest than you, and I’m here to go into the dungeon with him—not to lead, but together. Understand? Letting you join is already a courtesy.”
Left-Handed Legend’s face turned ugly; anger simmered but he didn’t dare retort. Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed wasn’t just a squad leader—he was an elder within Dragon Soar, and more importantly, his strength was formidable. Killing a cloth-armored Holy Light Priest like him would be as easy as squashing an ant. He couldn’t afford to provoke him.
Unable to vent his anger at Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed, Left-Handed Legend quickly shifted his attention to Ye Chen, sizing him up for a moment before suddenly saying, “So you’re Ye Chen. I remember now—I bought a few Beauty Pills from you yesterday, you’re that street vendor selling potions.” He paused, then added with a sneer, “I heard Furious Tiger Roar suffered a loss at your hands? You, a street vendor, have that kind of skill?”
“My skill is none of your concern, and it has nothing to do with you,” Ye Chen replied coldly. He had been indifferent toward this man, but now that he’d been targeted, his demeanor grew frosty.
“How does it not concern me? We’ll be entering the dungeon together soon—you’d better not be a liability. If your skill isn’t up to par, you’ll drag us all down,” Left-Handed Legend said, then shifted his gaze greedily to the Abyss Staff in Ye Chen’s hand. “I heard Furious Tiger Roar say your staff is a dark gold-grade weapon. Let’s see the glow effect.”
Ye Chen gave his staff a casual shake, smiling faintly. “You seem quite interested in my weapon.”
“Of course. If yours is gold or dark gold, I’d like to trade with you,” Left-Handed Legend replied with a grin.
“Trade? What do you have to offer?” Ye Chen eyed him up and down. Even his entire set of gear wouldn’t be worth a single gold-grade weapon.
“My weapon, of course. I’ll trade mine for yours,” Left-Handed Legend said as if it were the most natural thing in the world, showing not the slightest hint of embarrassment. Star-Slayer and Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed both frowned at his attitude, but said nothing—after all, business ties remained, and even if Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed looked down on Left-Handed Legend, it wasn’t wise to offend him too deeply.
Ye Chen was amused, pointing at Left-Handed Legend and mocking, “Your weapon? You want to trade a silver weapon for a dark gold weapon? Were you kicked in the head by a donkey?”
This time, instead of getting angry, Left-Handed Legend’s face was full of arrogance. “Who am I? I am Left-Handed Legend! Here in Fierce Mountain City, there’s nothing I can’t get my hands on. Offering you a silver weapon is me showing you respect. Don’t blame me for not warning you—if you don’t trade, I have ways to make you hand it over. In the end, you won’t even get a silver weapon, and you might end up dying a few times.”
