Chapter Sixty-Two: The Seeming Expert
"Alright, no problem," Dragon Soaring Star nodded and said, "Brother Chen, your main class is probably Dark Priest, right? You can fight and heal, which means we can reduce the number of priests and add more damage dealers."
"I can't heal anyone, so don't cut the priests," Ye Chen shook his head.
"Dark Priests can all heal, can't they? I know your damage is high and you're mainly an attacker, so you don't need to heal all the time—just fill in occasionally," Dragon Soaring Star thought Ye Chen was simply unwilling to play the healer, which was common, especially among male secondary healers.
"I don't have any healing skills, so how could I heal?" Ye Chen forced a bitter smile. The Dark Arbiter truly had no way to restore health.
Dragon Soaring Star stared in disbelief. "Impossible, what secondary healer can't—" As he spoke, his expression suddenly shifted, and he looked at Ye Chen with incredulity. He was about to say something when Thief Never Leaves cut him off, "Wait, Brother Night Chen, are you a branch class?"
"Dark Arbiter, only has buff spells, can't heal," Ye Chen spread his hands helplessly.
"A branch class!? Damn, Brother Chen, you're amazing. Our whole Dragon Soaring only has three branch classes," Dragon Soaring Star and Thief Never Leaves both wore expressions of astonishment. Right now, branch classes were indeed still national treasures.
"You guys only have three branch classes with so much talent? Can't trigger the class change quests?" Ye Chen was surprised. Branch classes were hard to come by, but surely such a large guild couldn't be so lacking, especially since branch classes weren't hidden classes.
Dragon Soaring Star looked defeated, while Thief Never Leaves was even more frustrated, "There are plenty who trigger the quest, at least dozens, but only three have completed it. Not afraid to be laughed at—I've triggered it myself, but that damned quest is too hard, and you can't team up. It's impossible to finish at this stage, so I've had to settle for a normal profession and wait for the second class change for another chance."
"Brother Night Chen, you managed to complete the quest solo as a secondary healer? I truly admire you now. No wonder you could pinpoint me by sound and break my stealth," Thief Never Leaves gave a serious thumbs-up.
"Pinpoint by sound, my ass," Ye Chen cursed inwardly, maintaining an indifferent facade, fearing Thief Never Leaves would keep bringing up that sound location incident. He hurriedly waved his hand, "Well, I'll go make some pills now. See you next time." With that, he didn't care about their reaction and dashed into the Alchemist Guild.
Dragon Soaring Star watched Ye Chen's retreating figure and said eagerly to Thief Never Leaves, "Brother Thief, since Night Chen is a skilled player and has a hidden sub-class, should we tell the boss and invest a bit to recruit him?"
"Recruit him?" Thief Never Leaves chuckled, "Our temple is too small to house a deity like him."
Dragon Soaring Star was unconvinced, "How big a deity? Our Dragon Soaring temple is small? Who in Fiery Mountain City dares say they're bigger than us?"
Thief Never Leaves smirked, "Your vision only extends to Fiery Mountain City. Out of a hundred cities in the Empire, Fiery Mountain City is nothing. If we were truly a big temple, we wouldn't be here in a marginalized city."
"So, Brother Thief, what kind of temple could house a deity like him? Dragon Soaring has thousands of members," Dragon Soaring Star retorted, eyes flashing with dissatisfaction.
Thief Never Leaves snorted twice, then asked an unrelated question, "Just now, when he mentioned pinpointing by sound, you thought it was ridiculous, right?"
Dragon Soaring Star blinked and nodded.
Thief Never Leaves gazed at the endless night sky, his voice drifting, "That's because you've never seen a true master. I have. I've even fought one."
"And the result?" Dragon Soaring Star asked expectantly.
"The result?" Thief Never Leaves forced a smile, "Do you even need to ask? Pinpointing by sound isn't just a legend. In this game with 99% realism, there are people who can actually do it. Such masters don't need detection skills; those skills aren't even as good as the player himself."
"After all this, who exactly is this master you’re talking about?" Dragon Soaring Star could barely contain his impatience.
"Who? Blade Dust," Thief Never Leaves' face was filled with nostalgia.
Dragon Soaring Star collapsed to the ground.
"Don't leak Night Chen's information. If someone messes with a character like him, well, let Fiery Tiger and his crew deal with the consequences," Thief Never Leaves said with a cold laugh. Suddenly, he added, "By the way, next time you’re running a dungeon with him, count me in." With that, he disappeared into the shadows.
Ye Chen, of course, had no idea Thief Never Leaves rated him so highly—far more than he expected, so highly that he decided to conceal his information from other families. This was a slight deviation from Ye Chen’s original intention, but not too far off; at least Dragon Soaring would adjust its attitude toward him. In Thief Never Leaves' eyes, Ye Chen was already seen as a powerful, or potentially powerful, master.
He went straight to the second floor of the Alchemist Guild. Ye Chen calculated: this time, he’d be making 800 Blood Coagulation Pills, 200 Smart Pills, and 70 Soul Pills. The consumables alone would cost him 550 gold, an expense that made Ye Chen wince. But then he realized he could sell them for 2,250 gold, making a tidy profit and keeping plenty for his own use—a painful yet exhilarating prospect.
"Ding, congratulations, you have successfully crafted a Blood Coagulation Pill."
"Ding, congratulations, you have successfully crafted a Blood Coagulation Pill."
...
The 800 Blood Coagulation Pills took the longest, a full hour to finish. Checking his backpack, he found half of it filled with these little red pills—money in pill form, and Ye Chen was excited.
He moved on to the Smart Pills, which went much faster; 200 were done in just over ten minutes. Unfortunately, making second-tier pills no longer increased his proficiency, which left Ye Chen slightly disappointed.
Finally, he crafted the Soul Pills—the quickest batch, finished in six or seven minutes, with proficiency rising by 70 points. However, still far from the 1,000-point threshold for level 4, so it seemed unlikely he could upgrade his pill-making anytime soon.
With this in mind, Ye Chen decided to focus more on the third-tier pills. He went over to President Knoss, pulled up the pill recipe list, and studied it carefully. For third-tier pills, the recommended one was the White Tiger Experience Pill, usable for those below level 25. He planned to hurry and make some for himself.
Then there was the Intermediate Power Pill—excellent, giving 30 points of strength per pill, powerful and fierce. Big Sister and Ling Yue would definitely love it, and sales would be strong. Conservatively, each pill could sell for seven or eight gold, maybe even more.
The last marketable one was the Mind Awakening Pill, which Ye Chen liked as well. It restored mana instantly—300 points at a time—a handy item sure to be popular among all mana-based classes, destined to be a bestseller.
