Volume Two: The Anbei Corporation Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Struggle Between Factions
“What’s going on? What did you say? A few people stopped you?”
Li Yu was a bit surprised; the voice from the bathroom stall was loud, cursing nonstop. But when he undid his clothes, the person inside heard the noise and lowered his voice.
There was the sound of flushing, and as Li Yu turned his head, he saw the stall door open.
A man with a thick beard stood there, and when he looked up, he caught sight of Li Yu, a hint of panic flashing across his face. He quickly shut the stall door again.
“Rather shy, aren’t you…”
Li Yu was speechless, but paid it no further mind and simply left the bathroom.
“Don’t mess with me, could it really be such a coincidence?” The bearded man inside the stall was flustered. Though they'd only met once, he remembered vividly how the young man had stood motionless, blocking bullets.
Was this the so-called ‘what goes around comes around’?
How else could it be that right after doing something bad, the person involved appeared?
After a while, he mustered the courage to open the door; seeing no one, he breathed a sigh of relief and hurried away.
“Act quickly, delay invites trouble,” the bearded man typed swiftly, sending out the message.
…
“All your things are ready!” Li Yu sent a message.
A moment later, Huang Xiu replied with an ‘ok’ hand gesture.
Below Huang Xiu’s chat window, the system showed two new friends added.
“Mu Ling’er—such a casual name…”
These two friends were girls who had insisted on adding him after he left the bathroom. Li Yu didn’t know how to refuse, so he simply accepted their requests.
He was about to put his phone away when another message notification flashed.
Curious, Li Yu opened the chat—it was from An Kangyu. After adding him during the last car purchase, they hadn’t spoken much; now suddenly he sent a message.
“Someone tried to go after your sister, but my men stopped them.”
Li Yu rubbed the screen.
He’d threatened An Kangyu before: if anything happened to Huang Xiu, he’d blame it on the Anbei Group. In fact, after acquiring the ghostly servant, Li Yu hadn’t paid much attention to the matter.
Thanks to its elusive abilities, the servant’s strength wasn’t officially rated, but Li Yu had a rough estimate: at night, martial artists stood no chance against it, and even during the day, it could create opportunities for Huang Xiu to escape.
“How interesting,” Li Yu murmured to himself.
He suddenly remembered what he’d overheard in the restroom—could it really be such a coincidence?
“Where are you? I’ll come over.”
After receiving the reply, Li Yu closed his eyes to rest, while the taxi driver turned the car toward the Anbei Nightclub.
Upon arrival, the surroundings were eerily silent; there were no security guards at the entrance.
Li Yu frowned slightly. “Is this aimed at me?” It was not a good sign, but he chuckled softly, unafraid, and strode inside.
With his current strength, ordinary firearms were nothing to fear.
Bloodstains marked the carpet, blending into its pattern—one wouldn’t notice unless looking closely.
There were splashes of crimson on the walls as well.
“Is this infighting? Or gang warfare?”
The nightclub was deserted, but traces showed there had been a violent clash not long ago.
The second floor was equally empty; after checking a few rooms, Li Yu didn’t linger and headed straight for the top floor, planning to visit the underground casino.
There were no guards at the elevator either, but unusually, the smell of blood was overwhelming in the area.
Clearly, a fierce battle had taken place here.
“Ding!” The elevator button went dark.
The elevator doors slid open. As Li Yu was about to step in, his phone chimed with a message.
“Li Yu, don’t go to the nightclub—it’s dangerous there!”
It was a voice message from An Kangyu, anxious and weak, with faint sounds of fighting in the background.
“Where are you now?”
“I’m at…” The message was sent before the voice finished.
Li Yu’s brows knitted; it seemed the situation on the other side was dire, and he couldn’t spare the time to send more messages.
Never mind the car delivery.
Just today, An Kangyu’s men had saved Huang Xiu from danger; Li Yu owed him a favor. If possible, he still wanted to check on the situation.
But all he got was ‘at’—with S City so large, it wasn’t quite a needle in a haystack, but not far from it.
Where was he supposed to look?
…
“Old man, still hoping for reinforcements at this hour?”
An Kangyu’s face was grim as he stared at the burly man before him, gaze fixed on his neck, where a blood-red scorpion was tattooed. “Scorpion, aren’t your hands reaching a bit too far?”
The burly man waved his machete arrogantly. “Too far? I just eat according to my appetite!”
The Scorpion Gang hadn’t been established in S City for long, always occupying a moderately sized territory. So An Kangyu had never paid them much attention—until today, when things suddenly exploded. Only then did he realize he’d been living with a tiger lurking at his side.
The S City branch was just the vanguard; the people stationed here had been infiltrating and undermining the Anbei Group, and now, with reinforcements arriving, the Scorpion Gang showed its fangs, fiercely tearing at the results of An Kangyu’s years of hard work.
“I can understand others betraying me, but why you?” An Kangyu turned to look at a young man.
The other looked twenty-six or twenty-seven, and remained silent.
An Kangyu spoke bitterly, “I have no children of my own—I always treated you as my successor!” This young man was his adopted son, An Guanghe, whom he’d taken in four years ago. He never expected that the one who was ruthless to others but filial to him would hurt him most deeply.
The huge wound on his back was inflicted by An Guanghe’s surprise attack.
“That’s simple—he was ours from the start!” Xie Hongda sneered. “You were the only fool who really treated him as a son!”
“He was instrumental in turning so many people—your adopted son deserves much credit!”
An Kangyu fell silent. By now, few were left at his side; even fewer could still stand—only a dozen remained. The enemy had come prepared, surrounding them with over a hundred men.
His gaze sharpened, eagle-like, as he stared at Xie Hongda. “Your schemes are clever, but do you know what it means to lose everything for being one move off?”
“The biggest mistake you made was targeting Huang Xiu!” An Kangyu suddenly laughed.
You thought I protected her because she mattered to me? Far from it! I only did so to build a connection with a certain young man, An Kangyu mused.
“Stop wasting time—send them on their way!” Xie Hongda frowned impatiently.
As soon as he finished, two elderly men stepped forward, blood surging through their bodies—two masters of dark energy!
