Chapter 125: News of My Biological Parents

At half past seven in the morning, Shen Xian finally returned home after being away for two days, breakfast in hand.
When he opened the door, he found the apartment clean and bright.
Zhou Wan had already put on her makeup. She stood prettily in the living room, gazing at Shen Xian with sparkling eyes.
Today she wore a long pink coat paired with black, form-fitting trousers that accentuated the graceful fullness and length of her legs. Her hair fell loosely over her shoulders, smooth as a waterfall.
Her makeup was delicate and understated. Her lashes were long, her eyes large and lively, and her lips red against her pearly teeth.
She simply stood there.
Shen Xian’s gaze softened, and his heart gave another beat.
It had been a very long time since his heart had felt so alive.
“Are you hungry?” he asked gently, placing the breakfast on the coffee table. “Qingqing’s still asleep, isn’t she?”
Zhou Wan walked over and took his suitcase from him, pretending to ask casually, “How did things go at the Ning family’s house?”
“I was only there to pretend,” Shen Xian replied. “Her family doesn’t approve of her developing her career in Nanzhou.”
“And do they approve of you two?” Zhou Wan asked.
Shen Xian shook his head. His expression was utterly calm, without the slightest trace of regret. “No. Their obsession with family status is unusually severe. I suspect that whoever marries Ning Cai in the future will have to come from Secretary Ning’s circle.”
Zhou Wan secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
If that was the case, she no longer had to feel burdened by guilt.
“Are you tired?” Zhou Wan asked as she moved closer to him.
She was somewhat nervous, even frightened, yet her voice clearly carried a tender warmth.
Shen Xian caught the faint fragrance lingering on her, and his thoughts began to grow restless.
“I’m fine. Not tired,” he said.
Zhou Wan stepped even closer. Then, after taking a deep breath and summoning all her courage, she slipped into his arms and wrapped both hands around his waist, murmuring softly, “Shen Xian.”
Shen Xian froze, his body going somewhat rigid. “Hmm?”
Resting her head against his shoulder, Zhou Wan greedily breathed in the faint scent of tobacco clinging to him. “I… missed you.”
The moment she said it, her face flushed crimson, and her heart began pounding uncontrollably.
Shen Xian felt the tenderest place within him being touched. He raised both arms and embraced her slender waist.
She was incredibly soft, and the sensation beneath his hands was exquisite.
Zhou Wan lifted her head and closed her eyes. Her lashes trembled, and her breath was sweet as an orchid.
As a man, Shen Xian naturally understood what he was supposed to do at a moment like this.
He lowered his head slowly. Her crimson lips were so close he could almost touch them, and he was just about to take the next step when—
“Daddy, you’re back!”
Qingqing’s excited, bright voice suddenly rang out.

Zhou Wan’s entire body jolted as if struck by electricity. She hurriedly pushed Shen Xian away, turned around, covered her face, and ran into the bathroom.
Qingqing came running over and hugged Shen Xian’s thigh, beaming with delight.
Shen Xian picked her up. “Have you been a good girl at home these past two days?”
Qingqing nodded, seeming to understand and yet not quite.
She was not even three years old. Even though she had seen Zhou Wan and Shen Xian embracing, she had no idea what the two of them had been doing.
After quite some time, Zhou Wan emerged from the bathroom, her face still flushed.
She glanced at Shen Xian, then lowered her head shyly. Her captivating expression sent a ripple through his heart.
Wonderful.
I really do like women.
I’m reacting.
I told you—I don’t like men!
Shen Xian was delighted. He pinched Qingqing’s little cheek. “Come on. Time for breakfast.”
After calming herself, Zhou Wan came over as well.
She thought it over and decided to spend the next couple of days building a closer bond with Shen Xian before telling him that Qingqing was his biological daughter.
There was nothing stopping her from telling him now, but she was afraid he might not be able to accept it.
At the dining table, Shen Xian recounted what had happened in the capital.
When he spoke of Su Rulong’s attempt to harm Qi Zhengqing, Zhou Wan listened with her heart in her throat.
“Oh, by the way, Liu Ruyun came by yesterday,” Zhou Wan said.
Shen Xian was taken aback. “What did she come for?”
“To see you. I imagine she still hasn’t given up on you.”
Shen Xian shook his head. “She and I are already in the past.”
Zhou Wan murmured in acknowledgment, nibbling at her breakfast while casting occasional glances at Shen Xian.
The more she looked at him, the more enamored she became.
“I have a commitment today. Could you look after Qingqing? I probably won’t be back until rather late,” Zhou Wan said.
“All right.” Shen Xian did not refuse.
He had no intention of going out over the next two days. He still had writing to do.
He had missed an update.
He had originally planned to write twenty chapters a day, but last night’s events had delayed him, so he intended to make up for it today.
After breakfast, Shen Xian moved his laptop into the living room. Qingqing sat nearby, playing with building blocks, while Shen Xian began typing. Zhou Wan had already left.

Shen Xian felt that this kind of life was truly wonderful.
He had made up his mind: once he achieved financial freedom, he would take Zhou Wan away to live in seclusion.
If she was willing.
Time passed quickly while he was writing. By the time Shen Xian had finished more than twenty thousand words that day, it was already evening, and his back and waist were aching.
Zhou Wan still had not returned.
He checked some news related to the music industry.
Liu Sheng had become something of a sensation. The song “For You Both,” which he had sung at Yao Feiyu’s wedding, had caused quite a stir online.
Countless people were begging for the full version.
However, Liu Sheng was still hospitalized and would need another four or five days before he could be discharged.
He called Li Xiurong and learned that Wang Tianqi had been admitted to the hospital and was currently waiting for a corneal transplant.
The song’s earnings were also being calculated. They should be settled and paid out at the end of the month.
Xiao Yang’s karaoke business was thriving as well. Business was excellent, and he was preparing to open another branch. Plans to open a bar were also underway.
Everything was developing in a positive direction.
After hanging up, Shen Xian felt that life had suddenly become extraordinarily beautiful.
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Shen Xian froze for a moment. Zhou Wan had said she would be late, so how could she be back this early?
Looking through the peephole, he saw an unfamiliar old man standing outside.
Shen Xian opened the door. “Who are you looking for?”
The old man was dressed in an impeccably tailored suit that was clearly very expensive. The fabric and workmanship were exquisite, and he had an exceptionally distinguished air. He appeared to be around seventy years old, yet showed none of the frailty of age.
“May I come in and sit for a while?” the old man asked.
“Tell me who you are first.” Shen Xian frowned.
The old man smiled warmly. “Allow me to introduce myself. My surname is Shen, and my name is Shen Wendong. I’m from the Shen family of Haicheng.”
Shen Xian narrowed his eyes, then said, “I don’t know you. Goodbye.”
With that, he moved to close the door.
The old man braced the door with one hand and suddenly said, “Don’t you want to know anything about your biological parents?”
Shen Xian stopped and stared coldly at him. “What exactly are you trying to say?”
