On the way to the hotel, Shen Xian was already wondering whether staying there would be safe.

After all, this was Kyoto territory—and Kyoto had Su Rulong, an absolute lunatic.

Given Su Rulong’s disgusting habit of hurting others while suffering some damage himself, there was a very good chance he intended to target Shen Xian.

He would have to be careful.

If Su Rulong actually succeeded, Shen Xian would truly be finished.

“Mr. Shen, your room tonight is Room 1302. Secretary Ning has already arranged everything, so you can go straight in,” the driver said after dropping him at the hotel entrance. “You won’t need to register your identity card.”

Shen Xian nodded and courteously replied, “Sorry to trouble you so late at night.”

The driver waved as he got back into the car. “No trouble.”

Shen Xian first went to the front desk to check in. “Hello. Secretary Ning made a reservation for me—Room 1302. Do I need to register?”

The receptionist answered politely, “You may go straight upstairs. Here is your key card. Please keep it safe.”

“Thank you.”

Shen Xian pulled his suitcase into the elevator.

The receptionist watched him leave, her eyes filled with pity.

The Young Masters Qi and Su were probably about to cause trouble.

But could she warn him?

Of course not. She was only a lowly receptionist. When immortals fought, ordinary people had best avoid being caught in the middle.

After opening the door, Shen Xian did not hurry to turn on the lights. Instead, he covered his nose and mouth with one hand and held his breath.

Sure enough, a spray suddenly shot into his face, stinging his eyes.

He quickly shut the door, then, still holding his breath, ran to the window. He opened a gap large enough for his head, stuck his head outside, and began gulping down the fresh air.

Then he turned back toward the door.

A small canister had been connected to the doorknob. The moment the knob was turned, it would spray an inhaled anesthetic.

Caught off guard, anyone opening the door would receive the spray directly in the mouth and nose.

After being inhaled, it would send a person into a deep sleep within a dozen seconds.

The canister was still spraying continuously. There was probably half a bottle left.

Holding his breath again, Shen Xian walked over, sealed the canister, and reconnected it to the doorknob.

What incredible connections they had—to even discover which hotel Secretary Ning had booked for him.

The only question was, who had told Qi Zhengqing?

The driver?

The receptionist?

It did not matter.

Through the surveillance cameras, the receptionist saw that Shen Xian had entered his room and had not come out. She immediately made a phone call.

“Young Master Qi, he’s gone into the room.”

A few minutes later, Qi Zhengqing arrived and asked, “He still hasn’t come out?”

The receptionist shook her head. “No.”

“Call his room and see whether he answers,” Qi Zhengqing ordered.

The receptionist did as instructed. She called several times, but no one answered.

Qi Zhengqing was instantly thrilled. “Looks like he must have passed out. Shen Xian would never have imagined that I’d place a large amount of inhaled anesthetic right outside his door.”

As he spoke, he entered the elevator and sent Su Rulong a message:

“Kyoto Grand Hotel, Room 1302. Come quickly. No waiting after the deadline!”

Before long, he reached the door of Room 1302.

He pressed the doorbell and held it down for several dozen seconds.

But Shen Xian, with his head still outside the window in the darkness, made not the slightest sound and gave no response.

Qi Zhengqing did not rush inside. Instead, he raised his wristwatch and calculated how long it would take for the anesthetic to finish spraying and then disperse.

After more than ten minutes, Qi Zhengqing murmured to himself, “That should do it.”

The sound of a key card unlocking the door rang out.

The handle turned, and the door was pushed open.

The instant Qi Zhengqing stepped inside, he felt a spray shoot into his face.

Caught completely off guard, he even took a deep breath. The dense mist went straight into his mouth and nose.

He froze. In an instant, he realized that something was terribly wrong.

What was happening?

Why was there still spray?

And how could it still be activated?

Where was Shen Xian?

“Damn it, this is bad!”

He spun around, but in his panic he slammed his head against the doorframe. With a heavy thud, his body lurched backward and he fell onto the floor inside the room.

The dense mist drifted before him, and he inhaled another mouthful.

The world began to spin.

He forced himself to turn around and saw Shen Xian with his head sticking out of the window, his backside facing Qi Zhengqing.

“Shen Xian!” Qi Zhengqing roared.

But his consciousness was already being devoured.

Staggering, he tried to get out of the room, yet he could not stand. His legs trembled uncontrollably.

He wanted to cry for help, but his entire body was limp. He could not summon any strength from his abdomen, and the sound that came out was pitifully faint.

He prayed desperately that Su Rulong would not come.

Please, don’t come!

At last, the mist stopped spraying. The canister was empty, though a faintly pungent odor still lingered in the room.

Only then did Shen Xian pull his head back inside. Covering his mouth and nose with one hand, he switched on the exhaust fan.

The strange odor was gradually cleared from the room.

But it was already too late for Qi Zhengqing.

He had inhaled a massive amount of anesthetic, and it was about to take effect.

“Take me away, or lock the door! Please!” Qi Zhengqing said, half sitting on the floor.

Shen Xian merely regarded him coldly and said nothing.

Qi Zhengqing fell into despair. His eyelids were growing heavier and heavier, and terror overwhelmed him.

Even death would have been preferable.

If he fell into Su Rulong’s hands, he would suffer a fate worse than death.

At the thought of Su Rulong’s depravity, Qi Zhengqing shuddered.

Thud, thud, thud.

Heavy footsteps echoed through the corridor. Someone was steadily approaching.

Qi Zhengqing was both relieved and afraid, and he began to pray.

He was relieved because it might be a bodyguard coming to take him away.

He was afraid because if it was Su Rulong, his life would be over.

Please, don’t let it be Su Rulong. Please, not him!

Qi Zhengqing was on the verge of breaking down. Never before had a few seconds seemed so unbearably long.

The door was half open. Through the narrow gap, he saw a long shadow slowly drawing near.

The shadow stretched far across the floor, half resembling an angel and half a demon.

Qi Zhengqing grew weaker by the moment. He braced both hands against the floor, trying to crawl out, but his arms were trembling.

He truly had not an ounce of strength left.

At last, Qi Zhengqing saw who had arrived. He was struck as though by a bolt of lightning, thunder exploding inside his mind.

If it was not that depraved lunatic Su Rulong, then who else could it be?

The man was still three doors away, yet his shadow had already been cast beneath the corridor lights.

In Qi Zhengqing’s eyes, the entire shadow had transformed into a devil.

Su Rulong narrowed his small eyes as he approached Room 1302, a small case dangling from one hand.

Anyone could guess what was inside.

Nothing more than black stockings, candles, whips, and a camera…

At last, Su Rulong reached the door of Room 1302.

He had been wondering whether this might be a trap, but then he spotted Qi Zhengqing collapsed limply at the entrance.

The moment he saw Qi Zhengqing’s condition, he understood what had happened.

Qi Zhengqing had intended to drug Shen Xian unconscious, only to drug himself instead.

“Well, well, sweetheart. What happened?” Su Rulong said with a grin.

In Qi Zhengqing’s eyes, that smile belonged to a demon.

As he spoke, Su Rulong stepped into the room.

“Don’t come any closer!” Qi Zhengqing screamed inwardly.
