Chapter Sixty-One: Premonition
“No, I want Ah Hang’s!” Song Wannian mumbled, pushing away the bottle of wine Jiang Mingzhao handed her. Wen Hang had warned her many times before: her alcohol tolerance was poor, and she was only allowed to drink in front of her, and only the drinks she gave her. Song Wannian still remembered this clearly!
Jiang Mingzhao let out a dramatic sigh. “Still playing favorites, huh?”
After getting drunk, Song Wannian’s body went limp and she slumped right into Nan Yan’s side. Nan Yan let her lean against her, noticing how flushed Song Wannian’s cheeks were. She frowned. “Wannian’s alcohol tolerance is really that bad?”
Wen Jingxing nodded. “It’s pretty bad.”
Though she couldn’t hold her liquor, she was never unpleasant when drunk—she just liked to tease people with her words and hands. He rather enjoyed it. It made him feel as if, deep down, Song Wannian needed him too.
Now and then, a night breeze drifted through the park, carrying with it the lake’s dampness, making Song Wannian shiver involuntarily. Wen Jingxing noticed and took off his jacket, draping it over her shoulders. At the same time, he gently shifted her from leaning on Nan Yan to resting against his own shoulder.
The viewers in the livestream were abuzz with excitement at this sight.
[Ah! Young Master Wen just put his jacket on Song Wannian!]
[He’s so attentive. She only shivered a little, and he caught it immediately.]
[I refuse to believe this is scripted—these unconscious gestures have to be real.]
[Yeah right! The more touching it is, the more likely it’s all staged for you to see. This is just acting!]
[Believe it or not, I’m just here to ship them and be happy~]
[The director will write any plot for ratings.]
[Doesn’t matter what the director writes—would Young Master Wen even agree to act it out? It’s not like he needs the money.]
[Wen and Wannian, just keep being like this forever! You’re going to give me a sugar rush, hehe~]
...
Song Wannian mumbled a few more words in Wen Jingxing’s arms, but her voice was so low he couldn’t make out what she was saying—except for the repeated cry of “A Xing.”
Across from them, Jian An’an, seeing how harmonious they were together, gripped the hem of her white dress tightly.
She glanced at Jin Jianyi, who was still trying to apologize, and grew even more irritated. Such a spineless man—if you know I’m angry, can’t you do something real for once? Sweet words are useless; I’m not a three-year-old.
Jian An’an, deep down, looked down on Jin Jianyi’s background and character. He seemed sunny and cheerful, but whatever he did, he was always hesitant and timid. Poor Jin Jianyi, too afraid of making her angrier, dared not say or do much at all.
Anyone—man or woman—apologizing meekly in front of others, it takes a lot of courage. It’s practically the same as stomping your pride into the ground. But Jian An’an didn’t appreciate it at all; her face was expressionless, her eyes sharp as she stared at Song Wannian.
She knew it—since the yacht party, Wen Jingxing and Song Wannian had grown closer. Now, seeing it with her own eyes, she was right!
That shameless woman, Song Wannian, actually used drinking as an excuse to fall into Wen Jingxing’s arms in public. What on earth did Wen Jingxing see in her? Why didn’t he just push that shameless woman away?
No! Tonight’s episode would be released. She had to find a crew member and figure out what really happened that night.
As night fell, the temperature over the lake dropped further, and the female guests all began to feel cold. Yun Ze also took off his jacket and draped it over Nan Yan’s shoulders.
Jin Jianyi was only wearing a short-sleeved shirt—there was no way he could take it off for Jian An’an. Jiang Mingzhao did have an extra jacket, but he was cold himself and didn’t want to give it to Shen Yue.
Jian An’an and Shen Yue had no choice but to huddle together for warmth, still shivering from the chill.
In the end, everyone agreed to return to shore. Nan Yan suggested that they come again during the day so they could have more fun.
The livestream viewers were left wanting more.
[They’re heading back so soon? I haven’t seen enough yet.]
[If it weren’t for Nan Yan’s suggestion, I wouldn’t have gotten to see the lakeside park in person, QAQ.]
[The lives of the rich are just different. We just lie around playing on our phones and gaming, while they go off to enjoy themselves here and there.]
[Wow, why is the service here so attentive? Look at that tour guide—he’s still standing by the lakeside.]
...
The so-called “tour guide,” actually the park’s duty manager, was growing more and more anxious.
“What’s this damned sense of dread all about?!”
While the guests on the boat were shivering from the cold, the manager pacing the shore, waiting for Young Master Wen, was sweating buckets. Every few steps he had to mop his brow, and by now even his handkerchief was soaked through.
As the boat drew closer, and the manager saw it was Young Master Wen’s, he pressed a hand to his pounding heart. “Thank goodness, I can finally relax.”
When the boat docked, the manager eagerly hurried forward to help the guests disembark—but this time, no one wanted his help. His hair, face, back, and palms were all slick with sweat, giving him a greasy sheen that made everyone a bit wary.
Yun Ze helped Nan Yan ashore first. Seeing them go, Song Wannian said to Wen Jingxing, “Ah Hang, let’s go too. Let’s have some fun together.”
She beamed, her smile especially bright. This time, her voice was loud enough for the four across from her to hear.
Jiang Mingzhao and Jin Jianyi were only mildly surprised, but found it rather normal. Shen Yue and Jian An’an, however, were both stunned—had their relationship grown that intimate already?
Wen Jingxing supported Song Wannian carefully as they made their way out of the cabin. The sight stung Jian An’an’s eyes. She stood up, a bit unsteady, but hurried after them.
She’d had a lot to drink out of frustration tonight, and her steps were unsteady. But a wicked thought took root in her mind: she wanted to push Song Wannian into the lake.
Drunk and heedless, she’d forgotten that, with the lake illuminated from below, the water was clear as glass; if someone fell in, they’d be fished out instantly.
Shen Yue kept a firm grip on Jian An’an’s arm, but as Jian An’an moved, she staggered after her, dazed. The boatman standing on the gangplank frowned and called out, “You again? Slow down and go one at a time, or you’ll fall!”
Jian An’an quickened her pace, Shen Yue hurrying to keep up. “Why are you walking so fast?”
Just as Jian An’an stepped out of the cabin and was about to catch up with Song Wannian ahead, she reached out, intending to push the swaying Song Wannian, who was leaning on Wen Jingxing.
Jian An’an lunged forward, and Shen Yue, unable to hold her back, took a large, stumbling step. In her panic, her right foot caught on Jian An’an’s, and—
