Chapter 167: A Beautiful Misunderstanding
After reading for so long, Song Wanning’s eyes did feel a bit sore and strained, but she still said, "I’ve barely looked at anything. You’re the one who’s truly exhausted after working all day. Is it time to head home? Should we have Cheng Mu come pick you up?"
Song Wanning suggested this subconsciously, wanting him to get some proper rest.
"Yes, work is finished. Cheng Mu is already waiting for us in the parking lot."
"Great, let’s go then. Is there anything you need to take with you? I’ll help you pack."
Wen Jingxing couldn't help but smile when he saw that Song Wanning, while talking about packing, was actually busy organizing the files related to Qisheng.
"Are you very interested in this?"
Song Wanning paused for a moment and nodded. "Yes."
"Then you must have some understanding of Qisheng’s current predicament by now? Do you have any good ideas? If you do, I’ll leave the matter to you."
"Leave it to me? You mean..." Song Wanning was surprised and slightly incredulous.
"Yes. Once the company is acquired, you will have the final say on all arrangements." Wen Jingxing’s tone was airy, as if such a significant task were trivial to him.
"Aren't you afraid I’ll ruin the company? That it will go bankrupt as soon as I take over?" Song Wanning asked him deliberately.
Wen Jingxing replied, "With me here, how could that happen?"
His tone was filled with absolute confidence, and as the future heir of the Wen family, he certainly had the capital for such confidence.
"Well... I’ll need to go back and think about this carefully. Once I have some ideas, I’ll come talk to you. I’m just curious, why did you suddenly decide to hand this company over to me?"
Wen Jingxing’s goal was simple. Regardless of which internal staff member took over the company, as long as a large investment was made upfront to stabilize its finances, it would eventually become profitable again. It was only a matter of time.
However, a key point was that this was the very company Jian An'an was about to quit and looked down upon. He was determined to revitalize the company and make Song Wanning its manager, just to spite the woman who had spent all her time making snide, passive-aggressive remarks toward Song Wanning. Wen Jingxing remained as cunning as ever, though this time he was being underhanded in secret.
"Do you not like the idea? If so, I’ll take back what I said."
Song Wanning shook her head quickly. "I want it! I love the idea!"
She knew that in her past life, Jian An'an had looked down on this small company and left it. Song Wanning and Wen Jingxing were clearly on the same page. In truth, both of their minds were far more devious than they let on.
After finishing their work, the two went downstairs to the parking lot. Cheng Mu was already waiting and immediately opened the car door for them. Once inside, Wen Jingxing leaned back and closed his eyes to rest, while Song Wanning secretly sent a message to Auntie Li, planning a big surprise for him. Seeing how tired he was today, she wanted to do something relaxing for him—like a hot bath.
When they arrived home, Wen Jingxing was surprised to find the entire villa dark, with light only coming from the kitchen. As they pushed open the front door together, the rich aroma of food greeted them. Usually, if he didn't return before dark, Auntie Li would only prepare one small dish and a single bowl of rice, knowing he wouldn't be able to eat much.
He walked toward the kitchen and saw Auntie Li smiling. "Young Master, Miss, you’re back? Come and eat! I just finished cooking, and it’s still piping hot."
Wen Jingxing asked, puzzled, "What’s the occasion today? Why did you cook so much food, Auntie Li?"
Auntie Li explained with a grin, "Miss Song requested it. She said you were tired from work and needed to eat well to keep your strength up."
*Keep my strength up?*
Wen Jingxing shot a skeptical glance at Song Wanning. This woman had never once been able to best him in their private bouts. Her strength had never compared to his, yet she was implying he didn't have enough?
*Absolutely not!* It seemed he would have to start working out in secret behind Song Wanning’s back! He would need to strengthen his arm muscles and strive to be able to lift her with just one hand!
Song Wanning had no idea that due to Auntie Li’s "misinterpretation," she had inadvertently taken the blame for a slight against his pride. Wen Jingxing had already made a mental note of it.
Not thinking much of it, Song Wanning figured that eating well was good for the body and would help build strength. She told Wen Jingxing, "Come and eat, I’m starving."
"Coming."
Song Wanning sat at the table, but she wouldn't start eating until he joined her. The dinner was rich and varied, and Wen Jingxing did end up eating quite a bit. Auntie Li watched with great satisfaction; the young master was finally willing to eat more. Wanning was truly someone she had picked well, always so attentive to his health. Auntie Li didn't know that she had always held a deep misunderstanding regarding Wen Jingxing’s appetite.
How could he have grown so tall and muscular if he truly ate so little? How could his nutrition have kept up? He wasn't a supernatural being. In reality, although Wen Jingxing ate small portions, every meal was nutritionally balanced. Because he had been fond of exercise since he was young, he had hired a nutritionist to design his diet.
However, Wen Jingxing didn't exercise openly and didn't let Auntie Li know the details; he simply gave her a recipe to follow every day. Auntie Li, unaware of the truth, had been worried at first, wondering if he could survive on such a light, sparse diet. But since the young master never touched anything else she prepared, she eventually gave up.
Before meeting Song Wanning, Wen Jingxing hadn't had much to be truly happy about, so he hadn't cared that he’d been eating "non-human" meals for over a decade. Later, as his affection for Song Wanning grew, his mood improved as well. Plus, Song Wanning was a little foodie who loved to eat, and he was subtly influenced by her. Occasionally, he would find himself with a hearty appetite simply because he felt happy in her company. Tonight was one of those nights.
After dinner, Song Wanning asked, "Are you tired? Do you want to take a bath?"
Wen Jingxing replied, "A quick wash will do." To be honest, he just wanted to collapse into bed and sleep without a single thought. He was only human, and after a whole day of reviewing files and countless proposals, he was mentally and physically exhausted.
"That won't do! You must have a proper bath to relax your body and mind."
Song Wanning took his hand and led him up to the second floor, guiding him all the way to the bathroom door. "Look! I’ve already drawn the water for you."
As the door opened, steam billowed out, enveloping them both. Wen Jingxing looked at Song Wanning’s bright, sparkling eyes, his gaze growing deeper and more intense.
"A-Ning, do you have any idea how tempting you are when you do this?"
Song Wanning was startled and looked down at her outfit. She was covered up completely; there was nothing wrong with that! Before she could react, Wen Jingxing suddenly grabbed her shoulders. His movement was so swift she had no time to dodge.
