Chapter 166: Emotional Breakdown

Yunze came in carrying bags upon bags of gifts. Nan Yan’s mother greeted him with a beaming smile. “Xiao Ze, it’s kind enough that you came. You really didn’t have to bring so many things. They must have been heavy. You’ve had a tiring journey, haven’t you? Come in and have some tea.”
Yunze smiled, an uncommon sight. “It wasn’t tiring, Auntie. These are all nourishing supplements. Whenever you have time, you and Uncle should simmer them with Nan Yan and eat them. They’re good for your health.”
“All right, all right. Come sit down.”
After chatting with Yunze for a while and asking how he had been lately, Nan Yan’s mother made an excuse about having something to do and left the two of them alone.
Only after Nan Yan’s mother had completely disappeared from sight did Yunze move from the far end of the sofa to Nan Yan’s side. Seeing this, the servants tactfully withdrew as well.
Yunze turned to look at Nan Yan, whose little face was flushed, and reached out to brush back the hair beside her ear. Nan Yan hurriedly slapped his hand away. “This is my home. Show some restraint!”
“After you went home that time, your aunt didn’t notice anything, did she?”
The moment he brought it up, Nan Yan’s face grew even redder.
“That happened so long ago. Why are you bringing it up again?”
“How long ago? It was only yesterday.”
“It happened already, so let it stay in the past. Don’t bring it up again.”
Nan Yan turned her face aside.
[Oh my goodness, why won’t you let him mention it? Nan Yan, are you trying to drive all of us outsiders to our graves?]
[These days, shipping a couple is no easy task. Even when there’s sweetness, they hide it away. No fun at all.]
[That’s so distant of you.]
[I was curious too, but Director Li didn’t include it in the main footage. Ahhh!]
It wasn’t that Li Weiwei had not wanted to include it. There simply had not been any camera footage. How could she have added it?
At the time, Young Master Yun had invested a large sum in the show and had even forcibly blocked the cameraman who wanted to follow them.
Li Weiwei had been in no position to say anything.
Yunze said, “That day, didn’t I—”
[Ah! Young Master Yun is so dependable!]
[He’s really not holding back. I love it! I’m officially a fan!]
[He’s going to tell us! I’m so happy!]
Just as Yunze was about to reveal what had happened, Nan Yan acted with lightning speed. She grabbed the largest piece of bread on the table and stuffed it into his mouth, successfully cutting off his words.
Yunze removed the bread with amusement in his eyes.
“All right, all right. I won’t say anything.”

Throughout the entire day, Yunze took care of Nan Yan openly and with perfect justification.
He even insisted on helping with certain rather intimate little things.
For instance, he absolutely had to wipe Nan Yan’s mouth after every meal. Whenever Nan Yan did not want to finish her fruit juice, he would simply pick it up and drink it himself, not minding in the least that she had already drunk from it.
That evening, when he heard that Nan Yan’s mother wanted him to stay, he even arranged Nan Yan’s bathwater for her.
Unfortunately, Nan Yan locked her bedroom door as if she were guarding herself against a thief.
Otherwise, Yunze might even have arranged her pajamas for her.
Yunze pushed Nan Yan all the way to the bathroom door. Her face was flushed as she said, “You don’t have to take care of me so thoroughly, do you? This is embarrassing.”
Yunze spread his hands. “It’s fine. Tomorrow, you can take care of me the same way. Wouldn’t that count as repaying me in full?”
“Shameless!”
Nan Yan shot back at him and closed the door, narrowly missing his nose.
Yunze rubbed the tip of his nose and returned to his room in high spirits despite being shut outside.
Meanwhile, while Jiang Mingzhao was asleep, Shen Yue spent the afternoon cleaning the apartment from inside to out, even though it was already spotless. She mopped the floors as well.
However, the results were always less than satisfactory when someone who never did housework attempted to clean.
Because Jiang Mingzhao had locked his bedroom door, Shen Yue could not get inside and therefore did not mop there.
When Shen Yue knocked on the door and called for Jiang Mingzhao to get up for dinner, he opened his eyes and realized that he had slept until evening.
“Mingzhao-ge, get up and come eat.”
Jiang Mingzhao got out of bed, changed his clothes, and stepped outside. Shen Yue was looking at him with a delighted expression, much like a child waiting to be praised.
His heart gave an immediate lurch. Surely this woman had not done something terrible in his home?
He shifted his gaze toward the corridor outside. The reflective wooden floor was covered with wet patches, and the first thing he said was, “Did my apartment flood?”
Shen Yue, who had been eagerly awaiting his praise, instantly looked unhappy. “What’s wrong? I only helped you mop the floor.”
“You call that mopping?”
“I used a wet mop to go over it. Isn’t that mopping?”
“Er… Good grief, are you royalty at home? Even if you’ve never done it before, you could at least have learned how. I’m begging you, go home already. Stop wrecking my apartment. I’ll have to call the housekeeper over again to clean up the mess you’ve made.”
Jiang Mingzhao was still irritable from being woken up. Seeing his apartment in such a state, he spoke more bluntly than usual.
Shen Yue’s eyes immediately reddened, shimmering with tears.
“I was only taking care of you in my own way. Maybe I did it wrong, but I worked all afternoon, and you didn’t even thank me. You just want to drive me away?”

She had exhausted herself that afternoon, sweeping such a large place. She had even slipped and fallen while mopping, and her hair was soaked through with sweat. And after all that, this was how Jiang Mingzhao spoke to her?
After enduring rejection from him all day, Shen Yue could no longer stay. Before her tears could fall, she turned around and ran downstairs.
Jiang Mingzhao did not chase after her. He merely heard a rush of footsteps descending the stairs, followed by his front door opening and then being slammed shut.
The bang was extraordinarily loud.
Jiang Mingzhao felt sorry for his door. Irritably, he raked a hand through his hair. “Crazy woman.”
Then he went back to his bed and lay down again.
Outside, Shen Yue saw that Jiang Mingzhao showed no sign of following her. At last, she could no longer hold back her tears, and they began to fall one after another.
She had not gone far. Squatting by the roadside, she called Jian An’an.
“Hello, An’an. Are you free right now? Could you come keep me company?”
Jian An’an was busy working in the kitchen. She glanced at the Jin family’s relatives, who were waiting in the living room for dinner, and said, “You sound strange. What happened? I’m a little busy right now. It might be a while before I can come find you.”
Through her tears, Shen Yue told Jian An’an what had happened that day.
Jian An’an first calmed her down, then said, “Don’t panic. Think about it—who is the reason you’ve had to go through all this?”
“Who?” Shen Yue asked, her voice choked with sobs.
“Song Wanning. Haven’t you noticed that Jiang Mingzhao is always following Song Wanning? It must be because Song Wanning hates you and has been egging him on. That’s why he treats you this way…”
Jian An’an wanted to continue, but Deng Jinfeng’s voice came from outside.
“What are you doing in the kitchen? Everyone has been waiting forever. Hurry up!”
“Coming! I’ll be right there.”
Jian An’an answered, a vicious gleam in her eyes. Yet her voice remained gentle as she said to Shen Yue, “Don’t worry. We have plenty of ways to deal with Song Wanning. I’ll contact you again when I’m finished here.”
“I haven’t—”
Before Shen Yue could say anything else, Jian An’an had already hung up.
Elsewhere, Song Wanning had finally finished waiting for Wen Jingxing to return. At that moment, she was sitting bored at his desk, leafing through documents concerning Qisheng Corporation.
Wen Jingxing had already sent her a message, telling her that if she got bored, she could look through anything in the office. Since the subject happened to interest her, she had been reading ever since.
Wen Jingxing came to her side, bracing one hand on the desk and resting the other on the back of her chair.
He looked at Song Wanning. His voice was somewhat weary, yet filled with indulgence as he asked, “You’ve been reading for so long. Aren’t you tired?”
I’m completely emotionally wrecked. I cut my hand at work, then had an allergic reaction to the painkillers after getting a tooth pulled, and now the extraction site hurts so badly… QAQ
