Chapter One Hundred and Four: Living Together Again

"Because Wen Jingxing said he would take care of Song Waning's accommodation," Li Weiwei replied.
"Why?" Jian Anan pressed again.
Li Weiwei was evidently impatient; why did this person have so many questions? Was Song Waning's place of residence really that important? What did it have to do with her?
Those with homes in the capital would surely return to their own houses.
Wen Jingxing wished to provide a place for Song Waning, and that made her happy—it saved her trouble.
Upon hearing this, Song Waning turned to Wen Jingxing, who stood beside her. "Is it true? Where did you arrange for me to stay?"
"My home," Wen Jingxing answered in a calm, measured tone.
Song Waning was astonished. "Your home? I don't want to go."
His house was full of people, and not one of them wished to see her.
She would rather stay in a modest little house than in such a mansion.
"What are you thinking? Not the main Wen residence, but the place I live alone. I find it too empty by myself, so when the director spoke about arranging accommodations, I suggested you come over," Wen Jingxing explained.
Only then did Song Waning recall that, in the book's plot, Wen Jingxing seldom returned to the main Wen residence and instead often stayed in the grand gardens he had built for himself.
Living alone in such a vast house could indeed be lonely.
She knew this deeply from her previous life.
Moreover, she had it worse than Wen Jingxing.
His house was large, but he could go anywhere in the world whenever he pleased.
But after she ascended as emperor, though she seemed to be above all, she was forever confined within the palace.
Everything she did, everywhere she went, was restricted.
"Alright then!" Song Waning agreed readily.
After all, they had already lived under the same roof, door to door, for half a month, so another half a month was nothing to her.
"Do you need to bring anything from your house? I'll have Cheng Mu fetch it for you. Now that we've switched filming modes, we can resume normal life," Wen Jingxing said.
Song Waning thought about that house; it seemed nothing there truly belonged to her, nor was there anything she wanted to take. Anything worth bringing had already been brought by the original owner into the show.
"No need. Everything I could bring, I've already brought to the program," she replied.
Wen Jingxing remembered how she had arrived, carrying plenty of things, but later she seemed to have discarded a lot. When he'd gone to her room to look for a heating pad, only a single suitcase remained.
"Once we're settled, you can just buy whatever you need," he said.
"But I have no money," Song Waning shook her head.

"I have money," Wen Jingxing replied.
Song Waning was stunned, staring at him in surprise. "Isn't that inappropriate? After all, we..."
"If you're staying at my house, then you're under my care. Spend as much as you like, and if that's not enough, just ask me," he said.
Song Waning: ...
Was this the legendary audacity that comes with wealth?
Li Weiwei, unwilling to deal with Jian Anan any further, said, "As long as the man in the capital is willing to provide a place for the woman, the program team doesn't need to interfere."
"So will she still be living with Wen Jingxing, or somewhere else?" Jian Anan asked.
Li Weiwei shrugged. "It's up to their arrangement."
In truth, she knew exactly how Wen Jingxing intended to arrange Song Waning's accommodation.
But seeing Jian Anan's anxious look, she deliberately kept silent.
Jian Anan, seeing she wouldn't say more, had no choice but to drop the subject.
That night, everyone had a wonderful time, lingering until half past eleven before returning to the resort center.
On the way, Wen Jingxing asked Song Waning an odd question, "Do you prefer gold or silver?"
"Silver," Song Waning replied offhandedly.
She was tired of gold after her previous life.
As emperor, she was forced to wear a golden crown and bright yellow robes, and she had grown weary of them.
But she asked in return, "Why do you ask?"
"No reason," Wen Jingxing said, keeping his intentions mysterious.
No matter how Song Waning pressed him, he refused to give an answer.
She pouted, "Stingy!"
Wen Jingxing chuckled, "Not telling you makes me stingy?"
"Yes!" Song Waning declared, full of conviction.
"Alright, alright, it's just a little gift. You'll see what it is soon enough," he said.
Nan Yan, who followed behind Song Waning, caught up and whispered, "Young Master Wen is so patient with you! He couldn't possibly like you, could he?"
Song Waning was surprised. "How could he possibly like anyone?"
She spoke with absolute certainty.
She knew that when she got drunk, she tended to be mischievous, yet Wen Jingxing had never once been tempted.

Clearly, he was a pure and upright man!
And with the plot of the book as further proof, Wen Jingxing was destined to live out his days in solitude.
"What? He doesn't like people? Then what does he like?" Nan Yan was shocked, clearly misunderstanding Song Waning's meaning.
If he didn't like people, could he be fond of objects or animals?
Nan Yan's expression changed instantly as she looked at Wen Jingxing—this was an unusual inclination!
For Song Waning to stay by his side so long, she must truly love him.
Yun Ze, sensing the conversation was taking a strange turn, quickly pulled Nan Yan away.
"Hey, why are you pulling me?" Nan Yan asked, confused.
"Stay away from troublemakers, or you'll be led astray," Yun Ze warned.
"How could Waning be that kind of person? She's so kind..." Nan Yan muttered, but Yun Ze still dragged her away.
Jiang Mingzhao watched them go, then said to Song Waning, "Alright, I'm leaving too—not going to be the third wheel and get a mouthful of dog food."
Rarely had he the leisure to come down without being pestered by Shen Yue; he planned to wander outside for a bit before returning.
He certainly didn't want to face that clingy woman.
Once everyone had left, Song Waning saw no reason to linger and quickly headed back to the small building.
When only the two of them remained, Song Waning hesitated before finally asking the question she'd been holding back.
"I have something to ask you."
"Go ahead," Wen Jingxing said, after changing his shoes and joining her on the first-floor sofa.
They seldom sat here, usually preferring the sofas upstairs.
Yet the view here was fine; by turning her head, she could look through a large floor-to-ceiling window at the garden outside, where all manner of flowers grew.
Tonight, she could even see a few fireflies flitting among the blossoms.
Song Waning kept her gaze on the garden's budding flowers, silent for a while before continuing, "Why did you kiss me then..."
She trailed off.
There was more she wanted to say, but dared not.
What she meant was, why did you kiss me without even a moment's hesitation?
Wen Jingxing looked at the back of her head. "If you don't turn around, I won't tell you."
