Chapter 54: No More Daydreaming

Mother and son went home and decisively shut the door, leaving Dongfang She outside. They hurried to their respective rooms to change clothes. Since Yu Jin’s complexion looked poor, she even took the time to apply a light touch of makeup.

Five minutes later, the two of them had transformed into a dazzling, eye-catching brother-and-sister duo. Fire planted two loud kisses on Yu Jin’s cheeks, then waved goodbye reluctantly.

The school bus happened to pass by the entrance. Fire did not see Dongfang She’s car and boarded the bus somewhat disappointed.

Yu Jin had actually wanted to take the day off even more than usual, but when she thought of a certain detestable capitalist, she gritted her teeth and left the house anyway.

“You’re leaving already?” Yu Jin looked around. Dongfang She had indeed gone.

Speechless, Yu Jin hailed a cab to the office.

“Assistant Yu, I have a project to discuss this afternoon. You’re coming with me.”

It was the first time Dongfang She had spoken to her of his own accord since entering the office that morning, though it did seem a little like he was forcing a conversation.

Yu Jin did not even raise her eyes. “I don’t have time. I need to organize the documents, and I haven’t finished the work Assistant Qin assigned me.”

Dongfang She rubbed his face. “Put that aside for now. This afternoon’s project is important. You must come.”

Yu Jin found it baffling. If it was so important, why did he not ask his chief secretary? Why make things difficult for a mere assistant like her?

“Is Secretary-General Gu very busy?” Yu Jin asked. Her attitude was fairly polite, without much hostility.

“I sent her to A City. She won’t be back until tomorrow,” Dongfang She replied flawlessly.

At that very moment, Gu Lan, who was negotiating a partnership in a building somewhere in G City, sneezed for no apparent reason.

“I just saw Assistant Qin. You could ask him, President.”

Yu Jin remained expressionless.

Dongfang She flew into a rage. “If I tell you to go, then go! Why do you have so much to say?”

Who was the president here, him or her?

Damn it!

“Can I refuse? I’m not feeling well.”

Yu Jin’s complexion truly was not good. When she had gone to the restroom earlier, she had discovered that her period had started, and her stomach hurt terribly.

“What exactly are you being so difficult about?” Dongfang She could not understand it. Hadn’t everything been fine last night?

Hadn’t she even been exchanging suggestive glances with him?

And hadn’t they nearly crossed the line yesterday afternoon?

How had she turned cold and disowned him after only one night?

Dongfang She assumed that she had merely slept poorly the night before, which made her behavior seem even more inexplicable to him.

“No, it’s nothing. I’m just not feeling well. You’re reading too much into it, President.”

Yu Jin frowned. Was her acting really that bad? Even Dongfang She could tell that she was in a bad mood?

“You aren’t jealous because I was gone all night, are you? Hmm?”

Dongfang She suddenly moved closer and braced both hands on her shoulders. His scorching breath mingled with the forceful scent of men’s cologne, making Yu Jin’s breathing catch.

Jealous?

What a joke!

She was not so foolish as to be jealous over Dongfang She’s amorous escapades.

She had merely developed the slightest feelings for him. But even that tiny spark of affection had been extinguished by her own hand, because Dongfang She could not give her the kind of love she wanted. She would no longer indulge in fantasies.

Even though Fire truly wanted their family to be reunited, she had no choice but to disappoint her son.

“President Dongfang, you really are exceptionally conceited.”

Yu Jin shook her head and sighed.

“Conceit requires capital too. Someone like Assistant Yu, tsk, tsk… You have nothing at all. All you can do is envy and resent others!”

Yu Jin’s stomach was hurting badly, and she had no desire to trade barbs with him. After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “President, you should send someone else. I’m on my period, so it’s inconvenient for me to move around.”

Dongfang She froze for a full half minute before understanding. He muttered a curse, rose, and swept away in a fury.

A few minutes later, there was another knock on the president’s office door. Unexpectedly, the person standing outside was Qin Ye.
