Chapter 28: I’m Making a Special Exception—Bring Your Little Darling and Come to Me!
"Are you really not having any? These clams are amazing! If only we had some wine to go with them, tsk, tsk..."
"Shut up." Dongfang She gritted his teeth. Damn this woman!
"Fire absolutely loves the food I make. If I can't finish it, I'll just pack it up and take it home for him," Yu Jin said with a carefree laugh. It was shocking that she could even say such a thing, leaving her child home alone without a second thought.
"You left the child home all by himself?" Dongfang She felt an inexplicable surge of irritation.
"Not at all. He goes to school during the day, the school bus drops him off at the door, he has his own key, and if there's no food, he'll figure something out." Fire's independence was already far beyond that of a normal five-year-old; sometimes, even Yu Jin felt she fell short in comparison.
"Aren't you afraid he might run into bad people?"
Dongfang She struggled to contain himself. He didn't know why he felt so inexplicably agitated; seeing her irresponsible behavior, he actually felt an urge to strangle this woman.
"Bad people?" Yu Jin imagined the scene of Fire encountering a villain and couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Mr. President, please spare me the crocodile tears. If you hadn't forced me to take care of your meals, do you think I'd have any reason to leave Fire home alone?"
Dongfang She snorted with disdain. "I'll grant you special permission to bring your little darling to stay with me!"
Yu Jin choked, speechless. There was simply no way to communicate with this level of intelligence.
Bring her baby to stay with him? What kind of insane joke was that? If he discovered the child's identity, wouldn't she be dead?
"What do you think? That kid seems quite well-behaved; he won't be in our way..." A meaningful smirk played on the corners of Dongfang She's lips.
"Mr. President, I am only here to manage your diet, not your daily life, and I certainly don't need to bring my nephew to move in with you. I don't want the paparazzi taking photos and blowing things out of proportion." Yu Jin hurriedly defended herself.
She couldn't let herself be swayed by his nonsense.
"Don't you think running back and forth is too inconvenient, Assistant Yu?" Dongfang She persisted, his tone coaxing.
Yu Jin shook her head like a rattle. "It's very convenient, very convenient indeed!"
She lowered her head and shoveled her food quickly, no longer daring to provoke him. Dongfang She raised an eyebrow, his table manners as elegant as those of a gentleman.
It had to be said that genetics were truly a mysterious thing. Watching Dongfang She meticulously wipe each finger with a hot towel, Yu Jin was reminded of her own little treasure. No matter how boisterous or playful he was, he was always refined when he ate, just like a little aristocrat.
After the meal, Yu Jin cleared away the leftovers. Since everything was spicy, she hadn't actually intended to take any back for Fire. By the time she finished, it was nearly nine o'clock. Dongfang She was leaning against the sofa, watching television with his legs crossed.
The light hit his face, softening his handsome, bewitching features. Standing in the distance, Yu Jin watched him, momentarily entranced. What kind of person was he, really?
He had mentioned that he used to be able to eat spicy food, but after an incident, his stomach could no longer handle chili peppers. So... what exactly happened?
Yu Jin suddenly shook her head, despising herself for the thought. "Mr. President, it's getting late. Please get some rest. I'll come back tomorrow."
Dongfang She narrowed his phoenix-like eyes, a faint, ambiguous smile on his lips. He remained in his seat with his legs crossed, showing no intention of seeing her out.
Yu Jin didn't think much of it. She grabbed her bag, took the kitchen trash with her, and headed out. It was only after tossing the garbage that she realized what that smile of his had meant!
This was an upscale residential area! There were hardly any taxis during the day, let alone at night! How on earth was she supposed to get home?
