Chapter 22: The Little White Rabbit’s Protest Falls on Deaf Ears
"Understood!"
Yu Jin nodded firmly, realizing that her plans for a nap were ruined once again.
That afternoon, Dongfang She did not come in to work. Yu Jin was left alone in the vast office, burying her head into the mountain of documents she had to organize. In the blink of an eye, the workday had ended, yet she was only halfway through the pile.
Qin Ye had repeatedly emphasized that everything must be finished before she left, and that no mistakes were permitted. Resigned to her fate, Yu Jin pulled out her phone to call her baby, then dove back into the sea of paperwork.
It was not until nine o'clock at night that she finally finished all her tasks. Stretching her body, she felt a sharp ache in her back and waist. She turned off the lights, locked the door, and dragged her exhausted body home.
For three consecutive days, Qin Ye had given her the same volume of heavy work. Yu Jin worked overtime each night, her complexion turning pale and haggard until she looked like a ghost.
During these three days, a massive storm had erupted in the outside world. A set of scandalous photos of the singing diva, Mu Keqing, had surfaced, and their explicit nature was truly shocking. Overnight, her image as a pure, innocent star was shattered, and the public was clamoring for her to be banished from the entertainment industry.
However, Yu Jin had no time to pay attention to any of this, nor did she have the spare energy to wonder who Mu Keqing might have offended. She was simply too busy struggling to keep up with her work.
On the morning of the fourth day, Yu Jin was so exhausted she could barely move. She had fallen asleep slumped over her desk, failing to notice even when Dongfang She walked in.
"Assistant Yu, lazying around during office hours will cost you your salary."
The light above her was blocked as a shadow fell over her, carrying an invisible sense of pressure. Yu Jin woke with a start, her sleepy eyes struggling to register the emerald-green gaze of Dongfang She looming over her. "Fire? Why are you here?"
"Fire?" Dongfang She said coldly. He slammed his hand onto the desk, the vibration hitting her square in the chest and instantly banishing any lingering sleepiness.
"Your bonus for this month is forfeited!"
Only then did a belated realization dawn on Yu Jin: she had mistaken Dongfang She for Fire. Fortunately, he simply assumed she was dreaming; otherwise, she would never have been able to explain it.
The little rabbit, having been oppressed for four days, finally decided to stand up and defend her human rights.
"President Dongfang! I protest! I wish to appeal! Why do I have to do so much work every day? These documents already have backups; why must I type them into the computer word for word? I consider my computer skills to be quite decent—I don't need this kind of typing practice!"
Yu Jin was furious. This was intolerable—she had reached her limit. It was obvious that Dongfang She was making things difficult for her on purpose; even someone as slow as she could see that.
"Protest denied! This court rejects your appeal! All rights of interpretation belong to Air. Accept your fate!" Dongfang She played along with her dramatic flair, hands tucked into his pockets, his posture arrogant as if he were a king who ruled over everything.
"Argh! This is no place for a human to work! I quit! I'm done!"
"The breach of contract penalty is thirty million. Go to the finance department to pay, then head to human resources to process your departure. The door is to your right. Good riddance."
Yu Jin was speechless.
Thirty million? Why doesn't he just go rob a bank? Where on earth was she supposed to get thirty million?
Yu Jin sighed powerlessly. "So this is what being a personal assistant is like—so grueling, boo-hoo..." She had thought she was being promoted, but it turned out the workload had increased while her salary stayed the same—or rather, was being deducted!
Increasing the workload without increasing the pay was simply inhumane!
Dongfang She took a long stride forward, suddenly smiling in a way that was both dangerous and charming. "Actually, being a personal assistant really isn't that strenuous. Why don't you reconsider the suggestion I made to you last time?"
