55. Chapter 55: Moving Mountains!
Chapter 55: Moving Mountains!
Old Xie was drunk.
Utterly and hopelessly drunk.
Xue An, on the other hand, grew more clear-headed the more he drank. In truth, if he wished, he could empty an entire distillery without getting drunk.
When Xue An left, Xie Jingjing walked him out.
“Go back inside.”
Xie Jingjing, who had been looking down, suddenly raised her head.
“Thank you.”
Xue An paused slightly, then smiled. “Thank me for what? Go back and get some sleep. You have school tomorrow.”
Xie Jingjing drew a deep breath and said with utmost seriousness, “I won’t give up.”
After saying those inexplicable words, Xie Jingjing turned and ran back inside.
Xue An stood where he was, a complicated look crossing his face beneath the night sky.
Feelings truly were something even an Immortal Venerable could not control.
Fortunately, his state of mind had long since been tempered into something as unyielding as stone. He merely sighed softly before vanishing into the darkness.
But for some people, the night was far from peaceful.
When Wu Zefeng’s body was returned to the Wu family, his father, Wu Weidong, seemed to age several years in an instant. Then he flew into a furious rage.
“Who was it? Who did this? I’ll kill him! I’ll avenge my son!”
The man who had delivered the body was Big Bear’s most capable subordinate. Hearing Wu Weidong’s words, he gave a cold laugh.
“Old Master Wu, Brother Bear asked me to give you a message.”
“What message?”
“Your son’s death was not entirely undeserved. He provoked someone he should never have crossed.”
“What do you mean? Are you saying my son died for nothing?” Wu Weidong roared, his heart blazing with fury.
“Whether he died for nothing or not has nothing to do with us. But Brother Bear said the man who did this is someone even Brother Fan cannot afford to offend. You’d better weigh that carefully yourself.”
With that, the man turned and left.
Wu Weidong’s fury was instantly doused like a fire struck by icy water.
Someone even Brother Fan dared not provoke?
Who could it be?
Could it be the Qin family?
Wu Weidong knew exactly what his son had done, and he believed that Wu Zefeng had not died unjustly. But he was still his own flesh and blood, and naturally he wanted revenge.
Yet if the other party was someone even Du Fan could not afford to offend, then he would have to think long and hard.
At that moment, Wu Zefeng’s mother also hurried over after hearing the news. The moment she saw her beloved son’s corpse, she burst into loud sobs. Then she suddenly leaped to her feet and shrieked with venomous hatred.
“Who did this? I’ll cut him into a thousand pieces and grind his bones to dust!”
Wu Weidong’s face turned livid, and he slapped her across the face.
“You… You dare hit me?” The fleshy-faced woman stared at Wu Weidong in disbelief.
Wu Weidong sneered. “That slap was meant for you. Zefeng became what he was largely because of you. Go on, then. Take your revenge!”
The woman immediately wilted.
She could bully ordinary people well enough, but Wu Weidong’s reaction made it clear that the enemy might be someone they could never afford to provoke.
All she could do was lower her head and remain silent.
Wu Weidong stood there in a daze for a moment before saying dejectedly, “Prepare the body for burial. As for revenge… we can discuss it slowly later.”
After all, a son could be born again.
But if the family were destroyed because of this, everything would be over.
By the time Xue An returned to the villa, it was already deep into the night.
The lights in the living room were still on. Tang Xuan’er had not gone to sleep yet; she was sitting on the sofa waiting for him.
When she saw him return, she rose to her feet. “Have you eaten?”
Xue An nodded. “Are the girls asleep?”
“They just fell asleep.”
“Then you should go to bed too.”
Tang Xuan’er did not move.
“Is something else wrong?” Xue An asked.
“Tomorrow, our hospital is organizing an outing. I promised to take Xiangxiang and Niannian with me. Are you… are you coming?”
Xue An had intended to refuse, but when he saw the hopeful look in Tang Xuan’er’s eyes, he could not help smiling.
“Of course. I have nothing else to do, so I’ll take the two little girls out to relax.”
Tang Xuan’er was delighted. “Mm-hmm!”
After Tang Xuan’er returned to her room, Xue An sat on the living-room sofa. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, he could see Dreamcloud Lake in the distance.
Although the night was as dark as ink, nothing escaped Xue An’s sight.
Spring had already arrived, yet the weather remained bitterly cold. Even so, Dreamcloud Lake showed not the slightest sign of freezing.
Xue An knew that this was entirely due to the lake’s exceptional geomantic configuration.
Dreamcloud Lake was like a naturally formed grand formation, with the hill beneath Villa Number One serving as its eye.
The feng shui here was excellent, but in Xue An’s eyes, it still had flaws.
For example, the hill was too small in scale. It was completely incapable of suppressing the imposing aura of Dreamcloud Lake.
Whoever had designed the villa had probably noticed this as well and done everything possible to compensate for it, but those measures were merely trivial techniques.
After all, ordinary people could hardly make a mountain rise out of thin air.
But what ordinary people could not do did not mean Xue An could not do it.
Xue An left the villa and stood atop the hill.
The wind made his sleeves snap and billow. Dark clouds filled the sky, as though spring rain were about to fall.
Xue An stood silently for a moment, then suddenly leaped.
With that single movement, he soared into the air. He stood upon the clouds, pressed his right hand downward, and shouted in a deep voice:
“Heavens and earth, heed my command! Rise!”
A series of muffled rumbles came from deep beneath the earth. The hill began to rise slowly, as though an unseen hand were forcibly pulling it upward.
Xue An’s expression grew solemn.
With his current strength, he could barely accomplish this much. In the past, a casual point of his finger could have made a great mountain rise from flat ground or transformed the ocean into fertile mulberry fields.
Rumble!
Spring thunder rolled across the heavens.
Amid the wind and rain, Xue An forcibly raised the hill by more than a hundred meters.
The hill, which had never been especially tall, finally began to resemble a true mountain.
Xue An descended back to the summit, feeling somewhat weary.
But this was still not enough.
He pointed toward Dreamcloud Lake and spoke in a calm voice.
“All waters, return to their source!”
At his command, the lake’s placid surface suddenly erupted into a colossal wave.
The wave surged toward Xue An, then bowed before him like a kneeling subject. The water energy that had previously resisted him suddenly became docile.
This water energy was the spiritual essence accumulated by Dreamcloud Lake over countless years. Now it surged toward the mountain, nourishing every inch of it.
In the blink of an eye, the grass that had withered across the mountain turned lush and green once more.
The area around the villa at the heart of the mountain was enveloped in an especially dense concentration of water essence.
Xue An then added several simple protective formations around the mountain, transforming the villa into a true blessed sanctuary.
At that moment, a thin layer of white mist covered the entire mountaintop.
It was pure water essence.
Even ordinary mortals who lived within it would enjoy longer lives.
After finishing everything, Xue An returned to his room, somewhat exhausted. When he saw his two daughters sleeping soundly, he could not help bending down to kiss each of them.
It was said that cultivators should defy the heavens and sever themselves from mortal attachments and emotions.
But whether in his previous life or this one, Xue An would never abandon the people he loved.
Whether he became an immortal or an Immortal Venerable, he had once been human.
And since he was human, there was no need to pretend otherwise.
This was Xue An’s path to immortality.
