Chapter 61: I Am Not Keeping a Kept Man
Dongfang Mingxuan was filled with envy. The princess’s husband was blessed with such breathtaking looks, and the princess doted on him so profoundly; truly, one could not help but envy this man.
Baili Hongzhe, who had initially intended merely to sit back and watch the spectacle, now wore a complicated expression. He gazed at Murong Xi in absolute silence, deep in unfathomable thoughts.
"Little Xixi, I'm already unwell. Holding onto me like this hurts so much," the woman lightly coughed with a frail, delicate air. The aloof and haughty expression from moments before instantly melted into profound gentleness. Her slender figure appeared as fragile as someone chronically bedridden, seemingly on the verge of collapsing to the ground at any second. She looked pitifully at the furious man, resembling an injured little kitten, evoking a deeply protective heartache.
Acting! She was undoubtedly putting on an act! If anyone failed to know Her Royal Highness's true nature, could he possibly be among them?
Murong Xi let out a cold snort, though the grip on her wrist loosened slightly. He sneered, "I heard the princess only sustained injuries from fighting others. How is it that Her Highness has now somehow contracted a chill?"
She twisted her waist slightly, casting him a flirtatious, utterly charming wink. "Oh, you heartless man, you clearly knew my health was failing yet couldn't be bothered to come check on me. Since you wouldn't come to find me, I had to think of a way to come find you. That's why I secretly took your little abacus. As the saying goes, seeing an object reminds one of its owner—I simply wanted you to come visit me."
Fabricating stories! Keep fabricating! Watching this woman lie as effortlessly as she ate her meals, Murong Xi was so enraged he nearly vomited blood.
He was hardly foolish enough to believe her. Narrowing his eyes, he retorted, "Just now, Rongxi distinctly heard the princess using the abacus to settle accounts. Since it was meant to evoke memories of the owner, shouldn't you have simply looked at the abacus rather than actually putting it to use?"
"Settling accounts? Did I? Was I really settling accounts?" She gasped, covering her mouth in exaggerated shock, before turning her clear, chilling gaze toward the three onlookers. Her smile, however, carried an unmistakable threat. "Tell me, was I settling accounts?"
A sudden, inexplicable chill swept over the three men, and they all shook their heads in unison.
"You... you're even bringing in accomplices! Your Royal Highness, you certainly were not settling accounts." He nodded with exaggerated understanding, then suddenly roared fiercely, "I bet you're spending my money to keep some gigolo again! Tell me, who are you planning to give my abacus to this time? Him? Or him?"
Murong Xi pointed first at Dongfang Mingxuan and then at Baili Hongzhe. As he bellowed, his glare was so venomous it seemed he wished to tear Yun Qiange into pieces.
Yun Qiange hurriedly covered her ears. Goodness gracious, shouting so loudly was practically deafening! This husband of hers was utterly devoid of charm! The moment money was involved, his temper flared like a tornado, always accompanied by inexplicable fury. Honestly, what a stingy, miserly scrooge!
Inside her mind, Yun Qiange cursed him thoroughly from head to toe, yet when she raised her head, a flattering smile bloomed across her face. Carefully massaging Murong Xi’s arm and kneading his shoulders, she coaxed him soothingly, "Oh, how could I possibly keep a gigolo? Little Xixi, you’ve truly misunderstood. They are... they are my... my..."
Beneath Murong Xi’s intimidating glare, her teeth chattered with fright. She squeezed her eyes shut, gritted her teeth, and blurted out, "They are my younger brothers!"
A truly astounding statement!
Yun Qiange’s words stunned everyone present. In the depths of her heart, Dieyi gave her own princess a firm thumbs-up. Her princess was simply a master of fabrication! To conjure up a reason quite like that was sheer genius.
Baili Hongzhe curved his cherry-petal-like lips in amusement, his gentle eyes brimming with suppressed laughter. Why had he never realized before that the princess possessed such an adorable side?
