Chapter 44: What Was Seen
Seeing her react so intensely was within her expectations. Yun Qiange curled her lips slightly and lightly pointed out the gravity of the situation to Wang Liang: "Sister Liang, do you take the officials at the Ministry of Justice for fools? Every palace token has a registered origin. Accepting such a token in private is a grave crime. I am only offering to put in a good word for you with the Prime Minister out of our sisterly affection. If you do not appreciate this, so be it; I believe it will not be long before the Ministry of Justice comes knocking at your door."
Her words were light, falling into Wang Liang’s heart like a feather drifting from the heavens. They made Wang Liang realize that she truly needed to weigh the situation rather than wait for the authorities to come investigating. She slumped down, hanging her head in despair. "Oh, sister Xiaoge, don't go. I know you mean well, but it is not that I don't want to help you. It was my husband who took the job while I was working in the back room. I only caught a few glimpses from inside; I have long forgotten what the person looked like."
This was the very answer she had been waiting for. Yun Qiange patted her shoulder and nodded. "As long as you are willing to speak, that is enough."
She picked up an apple from the fruit platter. "Sister Liang, look at this apple now. When it hits the ground, you will fall asleep."
Wang Liang looked up and saw Xiaoge release her hand. The apple fell in freefall. The surroundings seemed to turn deathly quiet, making the thud of the apple hitting the floor sound exceptionally loud. Her mind suddenly blanked, her vision went black, and she knew nothing more.
She found herself immersed in a white mist, with only the ethereal, god-like voice of the young woman remaining: "Tell me, what do you see?"
She remembered that voice—it was Xiaoge's. Where was this? Was Xiaoge trying to save her?
"There is so much mist, I cannot see clearly," she replied truthfully.
Dieyi almost gasped aloud, covering her mouth in astonishment. Heavens, what was she witnessing?
Could this be the legendary art of hypnosis? In the entire Tianyuan Dynasty, those who could perform hypnosis were few and far between, usually only the most senior imperial physicians. Yet, the Princess had managed to hypnotize someone with just an apple!
Yun Qiange glanced at Dieyi, signaling her to remain silent, and continued, "Now, brush the mist away."
"There is a door."
Yun Qiange guided her skillfully. Despite her serious expression, every movement exuded an indescribable charm that left the watching Dieyi filled with admiration. Yun Qiange knitted her delicate, smoky eyebrows. "What does that door look like?"
"It is a wooden door," Wang Liang replied, lying peacefully on the ground, her expression serene as she followed Yun Qiange’s guidance.
"Is there anything on the wooden door?"
"No, nothing at all."
"Now, push the door open." Wang Liang’s expression suddenly turned panicked, revealing a frantic reaction. "I cannot open it."
Trouble. Wang Liang’s emotions were highly unstable. She had to provide her with a breakthrough, or she would wake up soon. Yun Qiange reached out and patted her hand, soothing her. "It is alright, do not be anxious. There is an axe beside you. Pick it up and strike hard to break the door open. This door is easy to open; once you break it, you will see what you wish to see."
The door seemed to give way, and Wang Liang’s facial expression began to soften, returning to a state of calm.
"Now, tell me, what do you see?"
