It was over. It was all over. Murong Xi felt that his lifelong reputation had been utterly ruined. He shoved away the woman sprawled on top of him and swiftly pulled on the outer robe she had tossed onto the floor. But before he could finish dressing, her soft body draped itself over him again. Her voice was as yielding as her body, like a dandelion tickling the skin.

“Husband, don’t put it on so quickly.”

Even without seeing her face, that voice alone was enough to make anyone’s limbs tingle.

The servants kneeling on the floor had, after all, never experienced such matters themselves. Two of them even blushed. In their minds, the princess had always been cruel and violent. This was the first time they had seen her so gentle—so tender toward the young master. At the thought, they secretly cast him an ambiguous glance.

Under the servants’ envious stares, Murong Xi was so furious that his teeth chattered.

He was clearly the one being teased by that woman, so why were they all looking at him with such envy?

Heaven knew he was utterly incapable of enjoying the sensation of warm, fragrant jade in his arms.

It was all a lie!

No one knew better than he did how utterly deranged this woman was, or how much she despised him.

Who knew what had happened to make her suddenly seem like an entirely different person? What had she become? Murong Xi thought for a moment.

That was it. She had changed.

She had become even more shameless!

Before, they had at least left one another alone. Now she had begun openly laying claim to his private fortune. What could her purpose possibly be?

Could it be that she wanted to…

He shoved her away with all his strength. A flash of furious realization shone in his star-bright eyes.

“You think that by taking my dowry and emptying out everything I own, you can keep me under your thumb, don’t you?”

“Huh…? What does that have to do with anything?”

Yun Qian’ge stared at him blankly, completely baffled.

“What do you mean, keep you under my thumb? Explain yourself.”

She felt as though she were lost in a fog. Why was this man suddenly throwing a tantrum for no apparent reason?

The situation had changed so quickly that the servants present all formed their mouths into perfect circles. The young master had been neglected for years ever since marrying into the princess’s residence. Shouldn’t he be happy now that the princess had finally favored him? Why had she suddenly become enraged?

There was one thing they could all be certain of, however.

There was definitely gossip here!

The calmest person there was none other than Wanqi Haoyu. He simply stood quietly where he was, neither sorrowful nor joyful, neither agitated nor angry. Yet there seemed to be a faint, inescapable desolation between his brows.

“Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten?” Murong Xi ground his teeth, his star-like eyes roiling with towering rage.

“Could you please make yourself clear?” she asked with a frown.

“You want me to say it here? In front of all these people? Are you sure?”

He raised a hand and pointed toward the doorway, looking very much as though he intended to risk everything.

Yun Qian’ge turned around and discovered that, at some point, a crowd of maids and servants had gathered outside the door. They were whispering among themselves, their eyes glittering as they stared at the pair of them. The scent of gossip had clearly drawn them in. Even Dieyi was among them.

“Master Xi finally comes home after so long, and the princess has already started quarreling with him?”

“Just look at how disordered the bedsheets are. The princess must have favored Master Xi.”

“Wow, Master Xi was finally favored? On their wedding night, the princess despised him and went straight to a brothel to find a male entertainer, leaving Master Xi alone in the bridal chamber. He’s finally made it through those bitter years.”

“Who told Master Xi to insist on going into business? Wasn’t that a slap in the princess’s face?”

“Exactly. Which respectable young man spends his days shut up at home? Yet Master Xi followed his mother around from childhood, roaming the outside world.”

“…”

From the servants’ gossip, Yun Qian’ge finally pieced together one useful fact:

Murong Xi and the former owner of this body had never consummated their marriage.

And what was more, the former Yun Qian’ge had despised him deeply.

The former owner had hated him for showing his face in public, yet had ultimately allowed matters to develop as they did. There must have been some kind of agreement between them—one she knew nothing about.

Damn it. There was no trace of such a thing in her memories.

Did that mean her memories were incomplete?

Not everything had been restored to her.

Yun Qian’ge rubbed her forehead with a headache. Did this mean that she had already been backed into a corner with no way to save face?
