Chapter 54: An Ominous Foreboding
Chapter 54: Ominous Premonition
"So that's how it is."
Jiang Ren discovered that whenever he gazed at the blood-red moon, demonic whispers would echo in his ears.
These voices were intertwined with massive amounts of negative energy, capable of shattering an ordinary person's sanity in an instant.
For him, however, it was at most a bit noisy.
Recalling his experience in the nuke-ravaged city, Jiang Ren suspected that the blood-red moon might also be an illusion. He cast a faint red glow from his right eye and stared intently at the moon.
One second.
Three seconds.
Ten seconds.
The blood-red moon still did not change in the slightest.
"It's actually real? Could this be..."
Finding his guess to be wrong, a thought involuntarily popped into Jiang Ren's mind: "Is that unknown entity that isolated this continent finally preparing to close the net?"
If that were truly the case, his plan to farm the world evaluation score would likely fall through.
"However, this is a good chance to see who is pulling the strings behind the scenes."
Facing such a situation, Jiang Ren remained extremely calm.
Since he could repeat infinitely anyway, even if he died this time, he could learn his lesson for the next and eventually clear this world sooner or later.
Operating his right eye at full power, he finally managed to catch a faint clue.
A pale red beam of light.
Descending from the blood moon onto this continent.
Jiang Ren checked the map using a phone he had just picked up and found that the landing point of the red light was a city relatively close to the federal border.
"This is..."
Suddenly, Jiang Ren raised his head to look at the "dome" in the sky, and muttered, "The center of the dome!"
He decided to go over and take a look.
Lowering his gaze to the dozen or so lunatics still persistently crawling toward him from the surroundings.
Jiang Ren raised his foot and ended their lives.
Returning to the training room.
Jiang Ren packed his things. When he picked up his phone, he found dozens of missed calls and hundreds of text messages.
Most of them had been received within the past hour or so.
However, because his phone was usually on silent vibration when he was engrossed in something, he hadn't noticed them.
The contents of the text messages were similar to those on the phone he had outside earlier.
As for the calls, they came from the federal government, the fatty, the person in black, the elementary school student, and Bilisi, and even from this world's father.
Jiang Ren first called back the fatty and the other three.
Through their conversation, he learned that they too had intentionally or unintentionally seen the red moon and heard the slightly crazed whispers in their ears.
In the end, they had all successfully resisted the whispers and had not turned into mindless lunatics.
The reason they called was mainly to confirm each other's safety, exchange information, and try to deduce the cause of the moon's anomaly.
After hanging up, Jiang Ren dialed his parents' number in this world.
Neither of them answered.
"Either dead, or had an accident."
Jiang Ren shook his head, having no intention of playing the savior.
Born with his memories intact, even if he grew up from infancy, he would not hold much familial affection for those who gave birth to and raised him.
Furthermore, because of his left arm, the parents of this body had never liked him.
Had it not been for the constraints of the law and Jiang Ren's mature mindset, he might well have suffered a miserable, abused childhood.
Even so, over the years, he still punctually sent them an allowance every month—more than enough for them to live in luxury and debauchery—so he owed them nothing.
Jiang Ren changed his clothes and walked out of the warehouse.
"It's a pity about the two helicopters. One isn't here, and the other was damaged during the Divine Temple's attack. There are very few ultra-rich people around here, so I can't find a private helicopter. I can only go check out the airport."
Looking at a warehouse on the side, Jiang Ren couldn't help sighing.
The roar of an engine echoed.
A silver heavy-duty truck drove out of the warehouse, knocked over a few lunatics who came running to block the way, and sped onto the highway.
The world under the blood moon.
It was gloomier than usual and permeated with an inexplicable, eerie aura.
Yet, to Jiang Ren's mutated right eye, the visibility was no different from daytime.
Along the way.
Fires could be seen everywhere, alongside lunatics wandering on both sides of the road. Occasionally, the sound of gunfire could be heard, presumably surviving humans fighting back against those lunatics.
With more than half the journey to the airport covered, Jiang Ren was already feeling a bit glad he had driven this heavy truck out.
Aside from the endless stream of swarming lunatics, numerous vehicles were abandoned along the road.
When the red moon appeared, the owners of these vehicles must have been inside them before turning into lunatics or perishing at their hands.
"Almost at the airport."
After crushing who knows how many lunatics and ramming through countless cars, he was finally nearing the airport.
Jiang Ren raised his head and looked in the direction of the airport.
A hazy plume of smoke rose from the airport, shooting straight up into the sky.
Instantly.
An ominous premonition welled up in Jiang Ren's heart.
