Chapter 30: Do Not Think You Can Use a Woman to Waive the Balance
“What a coincidence.”
With Jiang Ren’s extraordinary eyesight, he could see from far away the heads peeking out from the top of the clock tower, as well as the people below it who had lost all signs of life.
Hearing him, Dorn immediately asked, “Jiang, did you see someone?”
“There’s a white man on top of the clock tower, with several others beside him.”
Jiang Ren told him what he had seen.
Dorn immediately perked up. “Jiang, let’s hurry. My client’s family member might be up there.”
“You still haven’t told me whether the person you want me to take out is male or female, young or old, normal or deranged.”
Jiang Ren was in no hurry. Even now, Dorn had yet to tell him any of that.
Dorn quickly said, “Jiang, stop guessing. She’s a very beautiful young lady.”
“A girl of six can be called a young lady, and so can a woman in her fifties or sixties. Which age group are you talking about?”
“Sixteen. Believe me, Jiang, she really is an exceptionally beautiful young lady. Even movie stars would look like background scenery beside her.”
“And? What does her beauty have to do with me?”
“It doesn’t?”
“...”
Jiang Ren said firmly, “I’m warning you, Dorn. No matter what your employer told you, don’t even think about using a woman to get out of paying the balance. That’s impossible.”
It was not that he was uninterested in women. He simply preferred things that could provide him with tangible benefits over women with whom he had no emotional connection.
Money, for example.
After all, food cost money, training cost money, and keeping the company running cost money...
Which was more important, money or women, was self-evident.
“Don’t worry. You’ll receive every penny of your balance,” Dorn said, then added, “provided you don’t name some outrageous price.”
Just then, he suddenly stopped and stared nervously ahead. “Jiang, are those... are those people?”
Beside the clock tower ahead, a group of “people” covered in filth and blood were hurling themselves against the tower’s doors.
Again and again.
Many of them had broken bones and were drenched in blood, yet they seemed completely unaware of it, continuing to batter the doors with unwavering determination.
“Biologically speaking, they’re still human. They’re just no longer alive.”
Jiang Ren smiled faintly, then abruptly halted.
In midair, a steel pipe as long as an adult’s arm came spinning out from the top of the clock tower, aimed directly at him.
Thud!

Jiang Ren raised a hand and caught the steel pipe effortlessly, then looked toward the top of the clock tower.
A bald Black man stood there with his arm still extended from the throw, staring at them in astonishment.
A bell had been tied to the steel pipe.
In the silence of the little town, the sound it made was faint, but more than loud enough for the living corpses to hear.
As a result, the corpses stopped focusing on the tottering tower doors and turned one after another, charging toward Jiang Ren and Dorn.
“Jiang, they’re coming!”
Seeing that Jiang Ren’s attention was not on the corpses, Dorn grew anxious.
“Relax. Until I’ve received the balance, I’ll keep you safe.”
Jiang Ren remained calm. From the force with which the corpses had struck the doors and the speed at which they were now running, it was clear that their physical strength had not increased. If anything, it had weakened.
Even an ordinary person with a suitable weapon could deal with them easily.
“Here, take it back!”
Jiang Ren casually threw the steel pipe back along its original path.
In less than two seconds, it streaked dozens of meters through the air, grazed past Kennedy’s ear, punched a hole in the pillar between them, then flew out of the clock tower and vanished from sight.
“...”
Kennedy froze. He looked back at the others and saw horror on all their faces.
Following their gazes, he raised a hand to touch his left ear. It was covered in blood, and half of it was gone.
Several heavy objects struck the floor in quick succession.
Jimmy and several of the other men felt fortunate about their decision. After seeing that Kennedy’s steel pipe had worked, they had chosen not to throw the tools in their own hands.
“Kennedy, are you all right?”
Worried, Taylor offered him a handkerchief.
But Kennedy seemed to have lost consciousness. He stood motionless, staring blankly ahead while clutching his bleeding ear.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Hearing the repeated gunshots outside, the remaining people quickly leaned out to look.
The living corpses, fearless of pain and utterly unconcerned with death, were as fragile as infants before the “tall, fat man” in the long black coat and the two pistols in his hands.
Heads burst one after another.
By the time the last corpse fell dead, not one of them had managed to come within five paces of him.
“Are we... saved?”
Jimmy turned to look at the others.
Bang!
Jiang Ren reached the base of the clock tower and shot apart the lock on the door in front of him.

He holstered both pistols at his thighs, casually took out a bar of chocolate to replenish his energy, and gestured toward Dorn.
“Bring everyone down.”
“Ah... what did you say?”
Dorn looked somewhat dazed, as if his thoughts were elsewhere.
Jiang Ren did not mind. He repeated himself.
“I’ll do it right away.”
Dorn nodded, drew a pistol, and entered the clock tower.
The moment he stepped into the stairwell, out of Jiang Ren’s sight, his pace slowed.
“Truly enviable.”
Dorn gently stroked the one-eyed design on his left forearm. Recalling the scene of Jiang Ren’s battle, he continued quickly up the stairs.
It did not take long for him to bring everyone down.
Looking at the six men and one woman standing ramrod straight nearby, as well as the blonde girl whom Dorn was attending to with special concern, Jiang Ren raised an eyebrow.
“She’s the client’s family member?”
“That’s right. This is Miss Taylor, and this is Mr. Jiang, who came specifically to rescue you.”
Dorn introduced Jiang Ren and Taylor to each other.
“Hello, Mr. Jiang. Thank you for coming to rescue me.”
Taylor extended her fair, delicate hand and gazed at Jiang Ren with an innocent charm.
“Hello.”
Jiang Ren extended his hand as well.
The large hand and the small one clasped together, like an adult holding a baby’s hand. They were on entirely different levels.
Kennedy had already recovered from his earlier daze. Alongside his rage at losing half an ear, what he felt even more strongly was fear.
Looking at the two men in front of him conversing with Taylor, he did not dare say a word.
“A tall, fat man? A short, skinny man? Which blind fool came up with that?”
The so-called “tall, fat man” was a “monster” over two meters tall, with muscles even more exaggerated than those of the superheroes in the movies.
The so-called “short, skinny man” was not as powerfully built as Kennedy, but it was obvious that he had trained, and he was roughly the same height as Kennedy.
Kennedy was furious.
How blind did someone have to be to mistake these two men for a tall, fat man and a short, skinny man?
“Something’s wrong! Time’s up! If we don’t get to the church now, it’ll be too late!”
Jimmy, the one who had started everything, noticed the fog roiling above the edge of the town and hurriedly shouted.
