Chapter 27: The Vessel of God

"Jiang, full name Jiang Garcia, formerly Jess Garcia."

"Male, twenty-one years old, founder and sole proprietor of the Demon Elimination Company. Currently single, both parents alive but separated, has one younger brother."

"Born at St. Lawrence Hospital in Dasga State. Upon birth, his left arm exhibited an unusually blood-red hue..."

"He showed maturity far beyond his peers from a young age; he earned his first bucket of money at six."

"At eighteen, he invested his stock market earnings to found the Demon Elimination Company. With a one hundred percent success rate, he achieved immense fame in just three years and is currently the industry's top eliminator."

"Just two days ago, Jiang neutralized a Tier 2 Hazard."

"According to the sequence of events and the post-incident investigation report, this Hazard had cycled through at least a dozen households, with only one family surviving. Its strength was infinitely close to a Tier 3 Hazard, but it was limited by a 'killing rule' that restricted its lethality to family units, preventing the scope of its massacre from expanding."

"During the handling of this Hazard, although Jiang did not display any overt abilities, his consistently steady facial expressions and movements indicate that his strength is far superior to that of the creature."

"Synthesizing our previous investigations, we can conclude that Jiang's strength is at least Tier 3, and no higher than Tier 4."

"With this level of power, combined with his human exterior and extraordinary physical constitution..."

"He is the perfect vessel!"

In the spacious and brightly lit conference room.

Around an oval conference table sat over a dozen men and women in suits and ties, each of them sporting a pin with a slightly malevolent eye pattern on their lapels.

More than sixty percent of them were elderly, over fifty years of age.

Though their complexions were ruddy, their faces were lined with wrinkles, and many had hair streaked with white.

The direction of their gaze was fixed on the projection displayed by a projector, which featured a full-body photo of Jiang Ren, accompanied by dense, detailed documentation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the analysis above is merely my own shallow conjecture. If you have any other perspectives, please feel free to speak!"

Standing beside the projection was a white-haired old man, smiling benignly at the others. It was he who had provided the briefing.

Clap, clap, clap!

Everyone applauded, their faces wearing smiles of uncertain sincerity.

After the applause died down.

"The sacrificial grounds are prepared, and the offerings are all in place. Now, we wait for tomorrow to arrive."

The white-haired old man looked at the youngest man in the room with a smile and asked, "Dorn, what about your end?"

"President Frank, I will certainly bring the Lord's vessel to the designated location. Not even death shall stop me!"

Dorn stood up, his face solemn, devoid of any lack of seriousness.

"Dorn, you are one of the most loyal believers of our Lord. Even if your flesh dies, your soul will return to the Lord's Kingdom and fight for Him once more."

Frank nodded with satisfaction, then added, "We are a group of failures, but we shall soon become victors, trampling those fools at the General Association beneath our feet!"

"Now, let us pray to the Lord!"

Immediately.

Everyone closed their eyes at the same moment.

They clasped their hands together in front of their chests, praying with total devotion: "Oh Lord, You are the God who sees and knows all; You are the One who unites all things, the past, the present, and the future..."

The next day.

Jiang Ren arrived at the rendezvous point for this elimination mission in a large truck.

It was a semi-abandoned road.

As soon as he stepped out of the vehicle, Dorn popped out from a small black car by the side of the road: "Jiang, you've kept me waiting so long..."

"Stop!"

Jiang Ren raised a hand, halting Dorn's approach, and said, "The time is now 8:57 AM, and our agreed-upon meeting time is 9:00 AM sharp. This means I have arrived early. If you feel you've been waiting a long time, there is only one reason—you arrived too early!"

Dorn's smile stiffened, his mouth opening as if he were about to say something.

"Just you?"

Jiang Ren did not give him the chance.

Dorn's attention was successfully diverted, and he shook his head with a dejected expression: "Yeah, you know how it is. People like me are just meant for running errands; no matter how hard I work, I never make much money."

Jiang Ren offered a polite and gentle smile.

He did not believe a single word of Dorn's. As the middleman connecting that wealthy client to him, even if Dorn didn't earn as much as he did, he made at least a million Federal Credits.

Moreover, he didn't have to risk his life. If that didn't count as "making money," then what did?

Dorn grumbled a few more complaints before returning to the point: "The Hazard the client needs removed is in a very remote town, about a two-hour drive from here. I'll drive in front to lead the way; just have your people follow me closely."

Jiang Ren said casually, "No need for such trouble. Just get in my car and give directions. As it happens, I wanted to ask you for the detailed information on this Hazard anyway."

"That's too much trouble for you. I'd better drive my own car."

Dorn glanced at the open door of the truck, where several muscular men were eyeing him like tigers, and his body suddenly felt a wave of numbness.

"You have two choices: one, you get in the car yourself; two, I throw you in."

Jiang Ren raised his hand, cracking his knuckles with a sharp sound.

"I choose one!"

Dorn was decisive and climbed straight into the car.

Once inside, he found that the space was much larger than he had imagined.

Not only were the seats very comfortable, but there was also a retractable square table, and the refrigerated wine cabinet on the side was stocked with fine spirits. The space was even larger than many luxury business vans.

"Considering you'll be accompanying me for the duration of this mission, you can't drink the alcohol. I can only offer you this."

Jiang Ren opened the refrigerated cabinet, pulled out a plastic bottle of mineral water from the very bottom, poured it into a stemmed wine glass, and handed it over.

Dorn stared at the glass, unsure whether to take it.

He recognized most of the wines in the cabinet; the cheapest were worth thousands, and the most expensive tens of thousands.

This bottle of mineral water was the lowest of the low, priced at no more than 1 Federal Credit, and often, 2 Federal Credits were enough to buy a whole case.

Seeing that Dorn didn't take it, Jiang Ren added, "Don't try to save me money. Drink as much as you like. If you enjoy it, I can gift you a few cases. I guarantee you'll have your fill."

"Jiang, how could I impose? Such expensive water..."

Dorn forced a smile, his tone tinged with sarcasm.

"We're friends, and I've always been this generous with my friends."

Jiang forcefully shoved the wine glass into his hand and added, "Since you like it so much, tell me your address later, and I'll send you a truckload."

Dorn looked helplessly at the transparent water in the stemmed glass.

At this moment, he wondered if his memory was failing him.

Could it be that this brand of water was different from the one in his memory, and its actual price was comparable to, or even higher than, the wine in the cabinet next to him?

Just as Dorn was thinking this.

He caught a glimpse of the muscular men around him suppressing their laughter, and he immediately knew he had overthought it.
