Chapter 18: Shrimp Meat and Pork Heart
Chapter 18: Shrimp Meat and Pig Heart
To avoid any unexpected trouble, Jiang Ren decided to rest for a few days before entering the second world.
The morning dawned clear after the rain.
When Jiang Ren arrived at the company, full of vigor, he noticed several female colleagues were absent.
Recalling the events of the previous night, he shook his head silently.
There aren’t that many saviors in the world. Instead of pinning your hopes on others, it’s better to learn to resist yourself.
If you’re unwilling to pay the price but still expect others to save you, then be prepared to bear the consequences.
It’s a simple truth.
Yet some people either don’t understand it or pretend not to understand.
“Jiang Ren, tell me what that old pervert Wang Wuliang did after I left last night?”
Zhuo Dazhi came over, his face full of fury, clearly having heard some news from other colleagues.
“After you left yesterday…”
Without hesitation, Jiang Ren briefly recounted what he had seen at the karaoke bar the previous night.
Smack!
“I always thought that old pervert wasn’t a good person, but now I see he’s a downright beast!”
Zhuo Dazhi slammed the desk angrily, causing Jiang Ren to brace himself, worried the already worn desk might collapse.
“Take it easy, don’t hurt yourself,” Jiang Ren urged quickly.
Zhuo Dazhi waved off the concern casually. “Don’t worry, I’ve smacked desks a thousand times, maybe eight hundred — won’t hurt me.”
Jiang Ren thought to himself, “I meant don’t hurt my desk, not your hand,” but decided not to say it.
“No, the more I think about it, the angrier I get. Forget the morning meeting, I’m going to settle accounts with that beast right now!”
With another loud slap on Jiang Ren’s poor desk, Zhuo Dazhi stormed out of the office area.
This fiery temper was why, despite being one of the top technicians, he was still only a team leader.
Over the years, he had toned down a bit, but when it really counted, he still exploded and refused to back down.
Though Zhuo Dazhi’s rank wasn’t high, his salary matched industry standards. Plus, because of family reasons, he was too lazy to switch jobs, so he stayed on.
“Hope the desk’s still intact.”
Jiang Ren wasn’t worried about Zhuo Dazhi getting into trouble; he was just concerned about the desk. He shook it hard to confirm its sturdiness before letting out a sigh of relief.
---
Ten minutes later, Zhuo Dazhi returned, looking glum.
“That beast hasn’t shown up for some reason. I checked — no leave records for him.”
Before Jiang Ren could ask more, Zhuo spoke up: “If he dares to come today, I’ll beat the hell out of him.”
Not just today, Jiang Ren thought, probably not for a month or two either.
He patted Zhuo Dazhi’s arm and tried to calm him down.
Though Zhuo’s anger had temporarily subsided, he went looking for Wang Wuliang again at lunch, but was still unsuccessful.
That afternoon, after finishing his work and idly passing time, Jiang Ren looked up to see two police officers entering the office area, led by a senior executive.
“Everyone, stop what you’re doing!”
The executive clapped his hands and announced, “Manager Wang Wuliang was unfortunately attacked by assailants after leaving last night and is currently hospitalized. The police will ask you a few questions shortly, so please cooperate.”
“Attacked? Is he badly hurt?”
Zhuo Dazhi immediately stood up and eagerly asked.
The older officer exchanged a glance with his partner and said, “Severe damage to the corpus cavernosum, no chance of recovery.”
Zhuo Dazhi was puzzled: “What’s the corpus cavernosum?”
“Your second brother,” a male colleague whispered nearby.
Suddenly enlightened, Zhuo grinned widely: “So that beast’s become a eunuch — serves him right, haha!”
Jiang Ren covered his face silently. Zhuo Dazhi was barely a suspect and would probably be questioned briefly and let off. But with those words, he was definitely in for a rough time.
Still, Jiang Ren wasn’t worried for Zhuo. He lived in a nice neighborhood with plenty of surveillance cameras nearby, plus alibis from witnesses and evidence, so he could easily clear his name.
As expected, the investigation unfolded as Jiang Ren predicted.
Everyone who had attended the dinner the previous night was called in for questioning.
Because Jiang Ren had stayed overnight at a nearby hotel, he was asked extra questions. They might investigate the surveillance footage to verify his statements.
After all the questioning was done, Zhuo Dazhi, grinning from ear to ear, was suddenly flanked by two officers.
“Zhuo Dazhi, we need to ask you a few more questions. Please come with us.”
“?????”
His smile vanished instantly, replaced by confusion and bewilderment.
What’s going on?
Why am I being taken away?
Can someone tell me?
As he looked around pleadingly, many colleagues stifled their laughter, thinking: You were laughing so happily earlier, who else could they suspect but you?
They didn’t genuinely believe Zhuo was the culprit — with his temper, if he wanted to get back at Wang Wuliang, he would have done it openly, not secretly.
“Best face change ever!”
Jiang Ren watched Zhuo Dazhi leave.
Though he wasn’t handcuffed, walking between two officers, no matter how strong his aura, he looked just like one person — a criminal.
---
Zhuo Dazhi returned the next afternoon.
Jiang Ren asked, “Did you drink tea all night?”
“No way, I went home last night,” Zhuo shook his head, chuckling.
Curious, Jiang Ren probed, “You look so happy. Did something good happen?”
Zhuo grinned and said, “I didn’t come in this morning because I took leave to visit Wang Wuliang in the hospital — and I brought him a gift.”
“What gift?”
Jiang Ren caught the key point. He didn’t believe Zhuo would be saintly enough to call him a beast one day and then bring gifts the next.
“A bunch and a box of medicine.”
Zhuo raised an eyebrow and explained with a mischievous grin: “A big bouquet made entirely of condoms, plus a box of kidney tonic pills. It cost me three months’ pocket money, but it was worth it!”
“Ha ha, Jiang Ren, you should’ve seen that beast’s expression when I gave him the gift! Even the best actor couldn’t have pulled off half the look he gave.”
“…”
Jiang Ren said nothing, silently giving Zhuo a thumbs-up.
That was ruthless!
Though he wasn’t there, he could already imagine Wang Wuliang’s face at that moment.
What’s this called?
Shrimp meat and pig heart!
