Chapter 55: The Lover (Part Eighteen)
Song Cheng strode forward, his gloomy gaze sweeping over Han Guoguo without the slightest trace of emotion. Han Guoguo felt as though she had been targeted by the Grim Reaper, a chill running straight down her spine as she hurriedly averted her eyes.
Su Kui's wrist and chest burned with an intense pain. Her already snow-white face was now drained of all color, and she had to bite down hard on her lip to keep from crying out.
Seeing her still putting up a stubborn front even at a time like this, Song Cheng pressed his lips into a thin line. He grabbed her scalded wrist with his large hand, where a ring of bright blisters had already formed.
Doesn't this woman know when she needs to endure and when she doesn't have to?!
In front of him, she should simply cry when she felt like crying, laugh when she felt like laughing, and express all her emotions freely and without restraint.
She kept proclaiming her love for him, yet refused to open her heart completely to him. Song Cheng had never truly understood women, but this time, he desperately wanted to try and see right through Su Kui.
He lightly tapped a blister with his fingertip, hearing a soft gasp escape her lips.
"Hiss—it hurts..." Su Kui pouted, crystal-clear tears hanging on her curly eyelashes, trembling as they waited for his next move.
Was this man doing this on purpose? She was someone with an extremely low pain tolerance; even the tiniest scratch would be magnified tenfold on her, which was why she had always been terrified of pain.
Song Cheng looked down at her with a calm expression, an unreadable emotion gathering in the depths of his eyes, slowly spreading upward. "Heh, now you know it hurts?"
"I-It always hurts..." Su Kui instinctively took two steps back, her intuition telling her that Song Cheng was dangerous right now.
She wanted to retreat, but her wrist was firmly controlled within Song Cheng's palm, impossible to pull away. That suffocating wave of restlessness almost completely overwhelmed her.
His distinct-jointed fingers slowly moved up to the spot on her chest soaked by the coffee, gently pressing against it. "Does here hurt?"
His demeanor was far too calm; Su Kui could not tell whether he was angry or not.
If he didn't care, he wouldn't be gripping her wrist so tightly while stubbornly demanding an answer. Yet if he did care, his reaction was far too cold...
Living through this cycle once more, his temperament had become increasingly unfathomable.
"I..." Su Kui opened her mouth, feeling a tightness in her throat as her voice dropped to a barely audible whisper. "It's... alright..."
"Ngh—"
Su Kui's eyes widened in sudden shock, never expecting that he—he would actually press down hard!
It hurt!!
Tears instantly burst uncontrollably from her eyes, falling like broken pearls, each hot droplet splashing heavily onto Song Cheng's large palm.
Yet Song Cheng did not retreat in the slightest. His phoenix eyes were cold and his expression stern, radiating an icy chill that seemed to freeze the surrounding air solid.
Han Guoguo felt a piercing cold shoot straight from the soles of her feet up into her brain, making the joints in her bones tremble.
She stood there, tears welling up in her eyes in utter bewilderment, the tip of her nose flushed red. Was something wrong here?
Clearly, she was the one who had spilled the coffee on this young lady, but judging by the boss's expression and his actions...
He was actually being so brutal. She could clearly see the woman before her turning paler and paler, looking completely wilted and defeated.
She hesitated, wondering whether she should speak up, but what if doing so drew the fire directly onto herself?
She hadn't meant to spill the coffee on her in the first place, Han Guoguo thought with a lingering sense of grievance.
Out of nowhere, why had it happened so coincidentally that she collided with Su Kui? If she lost her job over this, wouldn't she be dying an unjust death?
With these thoughts in mind, she cast a stealthy glance at Song Cheng's gloomy face, then looked over at the inexplicably aggrieved Su Kui, hesitating for a moment...
