Chapter 53: Lover (Part 16)
Inside the Chairman's Office.
Song Cheng's office matched his personality entirely: the decor was simple yet stylish, dominated by a large expanse of black and white. An obsidian marble desk occupied one corner of the room, flanked by a black-and-white bookshelf.
A row of soft leather sofas was placed against the wall for visitors to rest.
Aside from that, a white wooden door partitioned the space, leading to a lounge inside.
After pulling her into the office with a domineering embrace, Song Cheng released her, walked behind his desk alone, and sat down to attend to official business.
Su Kui felt somewhat idle and bored. She sat on the sofa, lost in thought for a while, staring at her jade-white fingers for ages, noticing that Song Cheng was indeed working seriously and had no intention of paying attention to her whatsoever.
Resting her chin in one hand, she began to size up the man before her, who had his head lowered in intense concentration.
A few wispy bangs fell across his high, smooth forehead, hanging down casually. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on his high-bridged nose greatly softened his formidable aura, making him look much more gentle.
Staring at him, she drifted off into a daydream before she knew it, her clear, watery eyes gazing intently at Song Cheng with a faint smile lingering at the corners of her lips.
They always said a man at work was at his most charming, and Song Cheng was preeminent among them.
If the usual Song Cheng looked like a mafia boss with a gloomy disposition, wearing glasses made him look more like a university professor than a man controlling the destiny of a massive financial conglomerate.
Perhaps her gaze was simply too intense, and since Song Cheng was someone highly sensitive to external stimuli, it was only natural that he would notice the gaze that had been following him as he moved.
He looked up as if by chance, and happened to collide with a pair of eyes harboring pools of clear spring water. His heartstrings were pricked by something, and after a moment, the corners of his lips curved upward. "Am I good-looking?"
His phoenix eyes were half-closed, the corners of his mouth upturned, and his deliberately lowered voice was alluring and captivating.
Su Kui nodded as if in a daze, her cheeks flushed crimson as though she had drunk a large bottle of red wine. "Good-looking!"
"Really? Then do you love me?" His voice grew even huskier, the trailing end dragging out long and low like the Grim Reaper wielding a scythe—knowing death was imminent yet still willingly offering up one's soul just to exchange it for a single glance from him.
"Re—really, I love..." Wait!
Su Kui widened her eyes, glaring angrily at him, and said in disbelief, "Are you trapping me?!"
Even if she hadn't finished the last word, Song Cheng had heard the preceding words loud and clear. What a pity—
He sighed, underestimating her ability to recover from his bewitchment so quickly.
He stopped twirling the signature pen between his fingertips. "Thirsty? What would you like to drink?"
Su Kui rolled her eyes at him with a mix of annoyance and amusement, shrugging indifferently. "Whatever, the same as you!"
"Alright." Song Cheng pressed the intercom, and it was answered almost immediately. He simply instructed the other end, "Bring two cups of coffee to my office." Pausing for a moment, he added, "Make one of them with extra milk. Bring it as soon as possible."
His words instantly made Su Kui's heart beat like a war drum. Was it him? Yet it wasn't him. But how did he know that she loved sweets and was an absolute devotee of dairy products?
Song Cheng possessed no telepathy and naturally had no idea why Su Kui's expression was changing so unpredictably. Assuming she didn't like it, he said, "You don't like it? Then I'll have the assistant get you something else."
Yet why did it feel as though something in his memory was telling him that this woman was completely addicted to sweets?
"No—" Su Kui looked back at him with a beaming smile. "I like it very much."
