Right. As the reason that had been clouded all night slowly returned, a cold smile tugged at the corners of Song Cheng's lips. He stubbed out his cigar.

With a swift heave, he tossed aside the snow-white thin quilt and leaned over her.

The night passed in silence.

Having slept all the way until afternoon, she finally recovered about half her strength.

She went into the bathroom to clean up.

Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, her phone on the bedside table began to buzz insistently. Su Kui picked it up. The glowing blue screen displayed three bold characters: "Mr. Song."

Impersonal enough. Anyone with eyes could tell this wasn't any sort of proper relationship.

"Hello?" she drawled lazily.

The voice on the other end was as crisp and concise as ever. "Awake? A file was left at your place last night. Bring it over to me. It's on the coffee table in the living room."

Su Kui frowned, and just as she was about to speak, the harsh, rhythmic sound of a busy signal echoed from the other end.

Damn it—

She pouted, immediately editing the contact name "Mr. Song" to officially read: "Animal!"

She turned and entered the walk-in closet, selecting a chiffon dress paired with a soft, fluffy pink knitted cardigan. Her loose, voluminous curls were gathered casually behind her head.

Su Kui checked her reflection in the full-length mirror and gave a cheerful snap of her fingers.

Not bad! Though this outfit wasn't particularly flashy, it hugged her graceful feminine curves to perfection, while deftly toning down the overly striking brilliance of her natural features.

Walking into the living room, she indeed found a kraft paper bag resting on the spotless glass coffee table, presumably containing the document.

She picked it up casually and hugged it to her chest. Thinking that she would be seeing him again shortly, her steps grew a bit lighter.

A fiery red Maserati stirred up whirlwinds of dust as it roared to a halt in front of the bustling Song Corporation headquarters, drawing sideways glances from impeccably dressed elite professionals clutching briefcases.

The car door opened, and first a slender, snow-white leg stepped out, instantly brightening everyone's vision.

A beauty so graceful and refined—

That was probably the best way to describe the woman currently walking slowly toward them. Though using such a classical phrase felt a bit overly poetic, it truly fit her with room to spare.

"Excuse me, could you tell me which floor the Chairman's office is on?"

A clean, gentle feminine voice interrupted their reverie. The man standing opposite Su Kui scratched his head, looking somewhat embarrassed. "Ah? Oh, oh... The Chairman's office is on the thirty-sixth floor. If you walk in right through here, you'll see the elevators..."

With a gentle curve of her brows, Su Kui flashed a warm, sincere smile. "Thank you."

"Hehe, n-no problem."

A fragrant breeze swept past, and the man was still standing there, scratching his head and foolishly grinning.

His companion slapped him hard on the back of the head, jealously snapping, "Snap out of it! She's already gone. Have you no shame at all?!"

"The goddess is going to see the Chairman, bro. You might as well just wash up and go to sleep!"

Su Kui naturally didn't hear the rest of the conversation. She walked into the building with an elegant stride, only to be blocked right at the entrance by a sweet-looking receptionist attired in a professional suit.

Glancing down at the receptionist's top, where a substantial portion of her cleavage was left exposed, Su Kui arched an eyebrow. It looked like someone had come looking for trouble.

"Ma'am, is there anything I can help you with?" The woman maintained a seemingly amiable smile, her posture flawless, yet the contempt and hostility in her eyes were crystal clear to Su Kui.

Lowering her lashes to conceal the flash of mockery in her watery eyes, Su Kui curled her lips and retorted, "I'm looking for Song Cheng. Got a problem with that?"

"You!" Furious, the woman widened her almond-shaped eyes. Instead of getting angry, she let out a forced laugh and said, "Do you have an appointment, Miss? Our Chairman is a very busy man; just any random woman who comes along cannot simply see him whenever she pleases!"

There were always some people in this world who didn't know what was good for them, daydreaming about flying up to the branches to become a phoenix. Evidently, Su Kui had just been lumped into that category by the overly familiar woman standing before her.

Of course, her predecessor truly had been that kind of person.

But that definitely did not include her, Su Kui!

With a light chuckle, she tossed out an airy, "Oh, is that so?"

Su Kui's refusal to play along or fight back left the receptionist feeling as though she had punched a pillow of air, with nowhere to vent her force.

Whenever she dealt with women who popped up out of nowhere to harass the Chairman in the past, this tactic had always worked wonders. Why wasn't it working today—

Then she watched helplessly as Su Kui took her phone out of her bag, tapped the screen, and placed a call.
