Chapter 19: The Crippled Young Lady (Nineteen)
Jun Mo then uttered words that nearly made Su Kui’s jaw drop.
“If you don’t want to cry in the future, then don’t. It hurts your eyes. I like seeing you smile.”
Like the blazing sun of June, bright as fire, like an invincible sword cleaving through the darkness in his heart.
And then, without his realizing it, threads of light quietly found their way inside. In that instant, he seemed to hear the sound of tender shoots breaking through the earth within him.
Su Kui was still frozen in astonishment when his gentle, magnetic voice continued beside her ear.
“You will not belong to the Emperor. You will belong to me—my priceless treasure.”
His tone was almost a confession. As he gazed at her, it was as though she were his entire world.
For one brief moment, Su Kui even thought she was hallucinating again.
The man before her, his phoenix-shaped eyes brimming with tenderness as he smiled at her—could he really be the Regent Lord Jun Mo, famed throughout the realm for his ruthlessness and merciless heart?
Could he have been an impostor?
Su Kui cautiously edged backward. Then, trembling slightly, she extended both of her wicked little hands and reached for Jun Mo’s flawless, handsome face.
And gave it a hard tug.
Jun Mo’s expression twitched. He nearly ground his teeth together. The little girl truly had no mercy when she struck.
Su Kui, meanwhile, withdrew her hands, planted them on her hips, and glared at him furiously.
“Speak! Who are you? Who sent you? How dare you impersonate the Prince Regent!”

Jun Mo was not annoyed in the least. He continued gazing tenderly at her as she bared her claws before him, brimming with vitality.
It was not until a quarter of an hour had passed that Su Kui began to find the game boring.
Only then did Jun Mo speak in a languid voice.
“A-Kui, are you having fun?”
The moment he said this, Su Kui, who had still been puffed up with anger, instantly deflated like a punctured balloon and grew flustered with guilt.
She pursed her lips, mortified, and muttered, “Was the show entertaining enough for you? Was it fun watching me act out an entire performance all by myself?”
Ah—
So accusing the thief while being the thief herself was her true specialty.
Jun Mo felt utterly innocent. From beginning to end, he had done absolutely nothing.
Su Kui, on the other hand, kept blinking those catlike eyes of hers, not daring to look in his direction.
With her aggrieved little expression, reddened eyes, and tiny lips pursed into a pout, her petite body curled up as she hugged her knees—
She looked exactly like someone eager to proclaim to the whole world that the Regent Lord Jun Mo had barged into a young maiden’s room in broad daylight, intending to commit some unspeakable offense.
He truly did not know what to say.

Jun Mo sighed helplessly and shook his head.
“This time, I’ll let you change the subject. But if there’s a next time, I won’t let you off so easily.”
Su Kui looked everywhere but at him, refusing to face him directly. Biting her lip guiltily, she stammered, “Who—who changed the subject? I only—”
“Only what?”
Only worried that you might not be up to it! After all, you’re already a thirty-year-old man. They say men in ancient times aged early.
Though her thoughts had taken such a lewd turn, she maintained an air of haughty defiance.
“I—I don’t want to talk about it anymore!”
Her pretty face flushed faintly.
The sight stirred Jun Mo’s heart. He forcibly suppressed the excitement rising within him and indulged her.
“Very well. Whatever you say. If you don’t want to speak of it, then we won’t.”
She was the first woman in his life to make his heart tremble—and likely the only one he would ever love. His little woman was still too young, and Jun Mo did not want to frighten her.
Before he realized it, Jun Mo had already spent more than half an hour in Su Kui’s room. He was not afraid that one of the palace maidens would suddenly return and catch them in such a scene; what he feared was ruining Su Kui’s reputation.
So he glanced at the sky beyond the carved window. At last, he gently stroked Su Kui’s long hair and murmured,
“I’ll be leaving now. Take good care of yourself these next few days. Wait until I come…”
Come marry you!
