Chapter 29: Revenge
Gu Pan was curious to know what it was and quickly opened the door, then went home with Lu Ruisheng.
Once inside, they opened the bag. Good grief—it was filled with contraceptive supplies. What on earth had that kid been thinking?
Before this, they had only assumed that 901 was the child of a wealthy family. After all, he was so young yet had already bought such a large house, and everything he wore was designer clothing. His shoes in particular were all limited editions. But they had never imagined that he possessed such an amusing soul as well.
Gu Pan looked at the contents and laughed. “These things will become increasingly valuable over the next six months. After all, no one will dare have children in the future. Giving birth will be a matter of life and death, so contraception will become especially important.”
Lu Ruisheng laughed too. “If you get the chance, remind him to stock up on more. He might even be able to live comfortably off them later.”
Gu Pan nodded. “You know, you’re actually right.”
The two of them joked as they changed clothes. Their home was warm and cozy, completely unlike the world outside.
Early the next morning, after breakfast, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng dressed warmly and prepared to go out. These few days were the best time to gather supplies.
However, just after they stepped out of the building, they saw two people jogging toward them and calling out, “Brother Lu! Sister-in-law!”
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng were far too familiar with those voices. They belonged to Zhuang Jie and his wife, Dai Lan.
This was the first time Gu Pan had seen Dai Lan since being reborn. Of course, it was impossible to tell much from their current clothing, since they were both wrapped up from head to toe.
The couple had recognized them by their movements and physiques. Lu Ruisheng was six foot one, and as a former soldier, he was particularly easy to identify.
A murderous intent rose in Gu Pan’s heart. No one cared about killing anymore, and it was no longer against the law. Besides, the other side had not come alone; they had arrived together. They had practically delivered themselves to her doorstep.
And why had the two of them come together? Wasn’t it for the spatial pendant? Once they took it, they would kill her and Lu Ruisheng anyway. They were both reborn—who among them had not killed someone before?
Since this was a matter of either her death or theirs, she naturally had to strike first.
She had originally planned to wait a few more days before going after them, since these days were ideal for gathering supplies. But now that they had come to her, she might as well deal with them while she was at it.
She stepped forward and said to them, “You came at just the right time. Ruisheng and I were planning to look for you.”
Zhuang Jie was delighted. “Then let’s go upstairs and talk. It’s cold out here.”

The couple had come prepared and were carrying weapons. But to kill someone, they needed an enclosed, deserted place. Even though no one would intervene in a murder anymore, they could not do it in broad daylight, right in the open. More importantly, they could not defeat Lu Ruisheng head-on. They would have to resort to underhanded means—poison.
Lu Ruisheng quietly said to Zhuang Jie, “Forget going upstairs. We managed to get a lot of food yesterday and hid it outside. Take half of it home for your family.”
He knew just as well that it was time to make a move, but he did not want to kill anyone inside their home. That was the place he and his wife lived in. It would be better to settle things outside.
Gu Pan particularly loved this about her husband. They never needed to discuss such matters. They were perfectly in sync and always reached the same conclusion. Dealing with things outside was indeed the better choice.
Zhuang Jie had wanted to go to their home, but under the circumstances, he could not think of any reason to insist on it.
Dai Lan said to him, “Brother Lu and Sister-in-law are thinking so highly of us. We’re truly lucky. Let’s not stand on ceremony.”
She wanted to inspect the place where they had hidden the supplies. If it was enclosed, they might still have a chance. They could also take their belongings while they were at it.
Zhuang Jie had the same thought. Even if they could not make their move today, at least they could learn what the couple was up to and look for another opportunity later. Thus, he agreed.
Lu Ruisheng led them outside. He and Gu Pan knew the surrounding area like the backs of their hands. He took them directly beyond the residential compound, to a restaurant not far away.
Many people had assumed there might be food inside, so the place had been thoroughly searched over the past few days. Most of the windows and doors were broken, and the entrance stood open. There were also several floors above them, providing plenty of escape routes.
They were wary that Zhuang Jie and Dai Lan might resort to dirty tricks, so this was the ideal location. They could flee through any window and would not be trapped in a dangerous situation.
As they entered, Zhuang Jie asked in confusion, “Brother Lu, quite a few people have already been here. Why did you choose to hide things here?”
Lu Ruisheng replied, “The most dangerous place is the safest.”
There did not seem to be anything wrong with that explanation.
Once inside, Lu Ruisheng led them toward a secluded spot at the back. Gu Pan followed from an angle that allowed her to observe both of them. She also had to make sure that neither one escaped. Today, she wanted both their lives—not just one.
When they reached the back and stopped, Gu Pan did not wait for them to make a move. A hammer suddenly appeared in her hand, and she brought it down on Dai Lan’s head.
As the one in control, she had the advantage of striking first.
A gun would make too much noise. A knife was unsuitable as well. They were wearing too many layers, and there was no guarantee that a single blow would finish the job. If things turned into a desperate struggle, it would be too dangerous.
A hammer was safer. Even if it did not kill her, it would certainly knock her unconscious. She could finish the job afterward.
Zhuang Jie happened to turn around and witness the entire sequence of events. Terrified, he spun around and tried to run.
Lu Ruisheng subdued him in a single move, forcing both his arms behind his back, then pulled a rope from his pocket and tied him up.

Naturally, Zhuang Jie refused to admit anything, even at the cost of his life.
“Brother—Brother Lu, is there some kind of misunderstanding? You… what are you trying to do?”
Gu Pan smiled. “You really don’t know what we’re trying to do? You came looking for me to borrow the pendant the moment you were reborn. Don’t tell me you didn’t know?”
As she spoke, she tied Dai Lan’s hands and feet as well.
The moment Zhuang Jie heard her mention being reborn, his entire body began to tremble. He realized something: he was not the only one who had been reborn.
That explained why everything in this life was different from the previous one.
He panicked. “Sister-in-law, I’m sorry. What happened before was my fault, but I was afraid too. I was afraid you hated me. I was afraid you would take the space back. I truly had no choice.”
Hearing such utterly unreasonable words, Gu Pan laughed. “You stole my ancestral space, used my resources to live well, and refused to leave us any chance of survival. And now you’re making yourself out to be the victim?”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I regretted it, too. Otherwise, why would all of us have been reborn? This is a chance for me to make amends,” Zhuang Jie insisted.
Lu Ruisheng said, “You did make amends. We’ve already taken everything from your warehouse—the supplies you gathered before the blizzard. Not a single thing was wasted. You prepared far more than we did, and I’m very satisfied.”
Zhuang Jie’s breathing grew rapid. “You… you took everything from the warehouse? You obtained the space?”
Gu Pan smiled. “I obtained it long ago. I deliberately let you stockpile supplies for me to use. Come to think of it, I should thank you. Before killing us in our previous life, you revealed this secret. Otherwise, I might never have found out.”
The moment Zhuang Jie heard this, all the vitality seemed to drain from his body.
Without the space, everything was gone. Perhaps the true purpose of his rebirth had been to gather supplies for them and repay the debt he owed from his previous life.
He said, “You lured us here today so you could kill us, didn’t you?”
Lu Ruisheng nodded. “And the reason you came to our home today was to kill us, wasn’t it?”
Zhuang Jie could not deny it. He wanted to argue, but when he opened his mouth, he could not think of a single thing to say.
