Chapter 32: Physical Limit Training
"Truly marvelous. The Nine-Fold Profound Heaven Technique is simply a heaven-defying cultivation art!" Wei Zi took a deep breath. After just one cycle of circulation, the rotation speed of her Profound Core and the accumulation of Profound Energy had increased significantly.
Not only that, but the remnants of the Ice-Skin Fruit previously lingering in her body had been completely absorbed through this session. Had she used her previous cultivation methods, it would have taken at least ten days to fully assimilate; the potency of the Nine-Fold Profound Heaven Technique was evident.
Furthermore, because she had mastered this technique, Wei Zi discovered a unique characteristic: the effects were even more potent for those who had never practiced any other cultivation arts before. And she, having just awakened, was precisely that—a blank slate.
The longer one practiced the Nine-Fold Profound Heaven Technique, the more its effects manifested. Back in the day, Beiming Ke had only studied it for a year, yet relying on the Nine-Fold Cold Domain and the Nine-Fold Ice Body, he was already able to traverse various nations with impunity. Had he been given more time, he could have truly defied the heavens.
Of course, Xing Haotian was no pushover either. His Three-Thousand Flame Blaze Technique was said to be an ancient wonder as well. If not for the fire poison suppressing his cultivation speed, he could have been even more formidable.
Wei Zi lost track of time as she practiced, only stopping when Xing Haotian, having shaken off his previous dejection and appearing once again full of fighting spirit, came to tell her it was time to eat.
For lunch, Wei Zi ate until she was stuffed.
The dinner menu last night had been very light, as Wei Zi had not eaten all day and it was best not to overindulge. Breakfast was the same; despite the wide variety of dishes, she had lacked the appetite upon waking.
Lunch, however, was different. It was incredibly sumptuous, and Wei Zi even found herself eating the meat of an S-grade wild beast—something she had never even dared to imagine before. S-grade beast meat was not only delicious and brimming with energy, but it also served to strengthen the body. Wei Zi could not stop herself, terrified that there might not be a next time.
"I told you to slow down; nobody is going to snatch it from you," Xing Haotian said with a smile. His mood was bright, his fiery red eyes dancing. Ever since he met Wei Zi, his emotions had fluctuated with her expressions. Seeing her finally reveal a youthful side, even going so far as to insist on a walk outside the villa because she had overeaten, he happily followed, deciding to prepare even better meals in the future.
Indeed, the way to a person's heart is through their stomach.
"You eat it all the time, of course you wouldn't think anything of it!" Wei Zi gave him a sharp, playful glare, her eyelashes fluttering like tiny fans. She knew he was amused by her, and while she felt a twinge of annoyance, she wasn't truly angry. After all, the food was just too good.
"It’s alright. The Crane-on-One-Leg we had today was just average. The best meat comes from the wild beasts in the sea. I’m not well-suited for combat in the ocean, but next time others go on missions, I’ll have them bring back some ingredients. I’ve had the meat of a Silver-Veined Shark; it is truly exceptional," Xing Haotian remarked.
"A Silver-Veined Shark!" That was a rare overlord of the sea, capable of capsizing warships with a single strike—a terrifying creature.
"Yes. I’ve heard of Golden-Veined Sharks, but those are creatures of the Forbidden Zones; I’ve never seen one myself." Although powerful, Xing Haotian did not fight in areas where he lacked an advantage. Beiming Ke had escaped his pursuit multiple times precisely because of his unique edge in the ocean.
"Forbidden Zones..." Wei Zi sighed. She did not understand Xing Haotian’s world—the world of the powerful—but she yearned for it boundlessly.
As they walked and chatted, the atmosphere was a rare moment of harmony since they had met. Xing Haotian, previously disheartened by the rejection of his gift of beast bones, was revitalized.
Later, when Wei Zi expressed an interest in exercise, Xing Haotian recalled the martial arts she had performed earlier. "If you’re just looking to exercise, those forms are fine. But if you want to elevate your physical constitution, I have a dedicated training ground."
"Oh?" Wei Zi raised an eyebrow. Then again, how could Xing Haotian not have such a facility?
Xing Haotian led the way, and as Wei Zi followed, she discovered that the villa had a basement. It was a place she had never known about in her past life. Entering with curiosity, she found a training facility that rivaled any professional gym, equipped with the most advanced machinery.
Beyond that, there were testing devices, gravity chambers, and magnetic rooms specifically designed for Profound Practitioners to release their arts. Wei Zi dared to say that even the most expensive Profound Arts institutes could not offer such conditions.
"Tell me what kind of physique you want to build, and I can design a specialized plan just for you," Xing Haotian offered.
To have Xing Haotian as a personal coach was a dream beyond reach for most. Although a General, he had always been a hands-on leader. The Xing Fire Army, his exclusive unit, was trained by him personally. Every member was an A-grade practitioner, and their physical prowess far surpassed that of other troops. Even as fellow A-grade practitioners, the Xing Fire Army could face ten ordinary fighters and walk away unscathed, if not victorious. They were the elite of the special forces.
Wei Zi did not want to entangle herself further with Xing Haotian, but she could not refuse such a tempting offer.
A plan custom-made by General Xing himself! Just hearing about it made her blood boil.
"I want to... reach the limits of the physical body," Wei Zi said meaningfully.
A flash of fire erupted in Xing Haotian’s eyes. A limit to the physical body—excellent. That was his own path. Although he was a Profound Practitioner, he had never neglected physical strength. He realized that only when the body reached a formidable state could it accumulate more Profound Power and withstand the explosive release of Profound Arts.
In ancient times, it was said that practitioners could unleash heaven-destroying power, summoning god-level arts with a wave of their hands. Today, however, releasing a god-level art exacted a heavy price: withered flesh and damaged Profound Cores. This was the drawback of an unevolved physical body.
The theory of physical limit he had proposed was still being reviewed and refined by the military department; they were struggling with how to promote it. Today, the martial arts Wei Zi practiced had caught his attention. He recognized it as an ancient form. She performed it with such mastery—achieving the balance of Yin and Yang, returning to oneness, and even entering a state of selflessness—that it marked the perfection of Tai Chi. Usually, it took four or five years to reach that level.
Of course, Xing Haotian knew that beyond the movements, there was a breathing technique for Tai Chi, currently stored in the military’s secret archives. He might be able to retrieve it for her to practice.
Wei Zi was unaware that this project of physical tempering was something Xing Haotian had proposed. Because his pursuit of physical limits was difficult for others to achieve and hard to promote, it would take another fifteen years for the military to adjust and implement it. Xing Haotian certainly didn't have the time to follow up on it himself.
However, in a moment of unintended consequence, Xing Haotian had taken the concept of Tai Chi to heart. Wei Zi’s casual display might just advance the physical tempering project by several years.
