Chapter 19: I Will Take Responsibility for You
“Dad, Mom said she doesn’t want you anymore!” In his dream, his obedient and adorable daughter suddenly spoke out, then stretched out her little hand and forcefully pushed Xing Haotian.
Xing Haotian felt as if he had been kicked hard in the stomach, his body soaring into the air before falling into an endless abyss!
“Bang!” His body collided intimately with the ground, and Xing Haotian jolted awake from his sleep. This was the first time he had slept so deeply and defenselessly. Had he been outdoors, wild beasts would have torn him apart by now!
Only then did he belatedly look up and see a beautiful young girl sitting on the snow-white bed, glaring at him with wide eyes. One of her snow-white feet was still raised in a kicking posture—he had just been pushed off the bed.
That foot was connected to slender calves and alluring thighs, exposed beyond the blanket, catching his attention irresistibly.
Unconsciously, Xing Haotian found himself drawn to her.
At that moment, Wei Zi’s anger blazed fiercely. She hastily wrapped the blanket around her legs, pulling them back under the covers.
“Wei Zi!” Realizing he had been too rash and might have frightened her, Xing Haotian quickly looked at her, swallowed nervously, and seemed at a loss for how to express himself.
Wei Zi also looked at Xing Haotian, her deep blue eyes filled with complexity. Reborn again, though the experiences were the same, the process and aftermath were clearly far better than the nightmare of the previous life.
What she did not know was that in the last life, because she was not outdoors, Xing Haotian had lain unconscious in an ice cave for nearly ten hours before his men found him. By then, the poison fire had fully invaded him, leaving him bereft of reason. Only when he encountered the purchased Wei Zi did he become so frenzied. This time, thanks to Wei Zi’s presence, the poison fire had just begun to invade before it was suppressed, and only once. Xing Haotian had been extremely gentle. Aside from some swelling and weakness in his lower body, Wei Zi’s condition was remarkably good.
Moreover, her skin, open to the mystical runes, was even more sensitive to the icy cold—almost a blessing in disguise.
Yet all these benefits were insufficient to soften Wei Zi’s hatred toward Xing Haotian. On the contrary, she hated him even more!
What had started as a pure new beginning was once again defiled by Xing Haotian!
Seeing the hatred in Wei Zi’s eyes, Xing Haotian’s heart ached. He quickly adjusted his posture and knelt by her bedside, trying his best to appear sincere.
“Wei Zi, now that you know who I am, I will take responsibility for you. I swear on my honor as a soldier.”
Wei Zi was stunned, staring blankly at him.
Her mind seemed to drift to another place—a villa district—where she had lain unconscious for a whole month. When she finally woke, Xing Haotian, dressed in his crisp military uniform, stood by her bed and said the exact same words:
“Woman, you should know who I am. I will take responsibility for you, swearing on my honor as a soldier!”
Such words were utterly powerless to a girl who had suffered disfigurement and assault repeatedly. It was as if he were merely going through the motions. Wei Zi’s mind had become deranged then; she didn’t listen to Xing Haotian but only knew to scream and avoid him frantically.
Every time she saw him, Wei Zi would fall gravely ill. Eventually, Xing Haotian gradually stopped appearing before her.
Now, as time flowed on, Wei Zi stared blankly at the man before her. She neither screamed nor fled—she was giving Xing Haotian a chance!
“Wei Zi, I am serious. Though you are still young, I will treat you well—better than anyone else. I will make you the happiest woman in the world. I will love you. Will you marry me?” Xing Haotian, who was usually a tough, cold, and unyielding man outside, unexpectedly uttered these sweet words. Though awkward, they came straight from his heart.
Wei Zi was silent for a moment, then said, “Let me think about it.”
Xing Haotian’s eyes instantly blazed like fire, his entire being radiating joy. His handsome face bore a gentle, delighted smile.
“Alright, take your time. No rush. You just woke up. Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?”
“Mm!” Wei Zi nodded, suddenly alert. “Wait, where’s my bag? Where’s my bag?”
Inside that bag was the contract left by her grandfather. Losing it could cause a serious problem!
Xing Haotian was stunned too. Seeing Wei Zi’s suddenly pale face, he cautiously asked, “Where’s your bag?”
“Of course, it’s in that cave. Didn’t you bring it back?” Wei Zi glared at him, her temper flaring uncontrollably.
Xing Haotian immediately looked like a dog scolded by its master. Just moments ago, he had been smiling and wagging his metaphorical tail; now, he wilted and hurriedly said, “Don’t be anxious. I’ll go get it for you right now. I’ll drive the war vehicle; I’ll be back in half an hour. I’ll have someone bring you something to eat. You haven’t eaten all day!”
“Get lost!!!” Wei Zi roared like a tigress. Xing Haotian shuddered in fear and dared not aggravate her. He fled awkwardly from the hospital room.
“Commander!” Zhao Liang stood guard at the door, upright and alert. Seeing Xing Haotian come out, he looked surprised; he had never seen Xing Haotian so disheveled before!
“Xiao Zhao, prepare some food and bring it to the ward soon. The best quality,” Xing Haotian ordered, suddenly recalling Wei Zi’s snow-white thigh. He shuddered and said, “You stay outside. Keep watch. Let the nurse bring the food in. Don’t let anyone disturb us, understood?”
Xing Haotian’s expression was serious, almost fierce. His stern face emanated overwhelming authority, making even Zhao Liang feel uneasy.
But this was the general commander he admired. Zhao Liang had fought countless rivals and endured injuries just to secure his position as a bodyguard. He was determined to perform perfectly!
“I guarantee the mission will be accomplished!” Zhao Liang saluted firmly.
Xing Haotian patted his shoulder, but his gaze was strange, as if seeing a class enemy. Perhaps having a woman had made his heart smaller and more suspicious. He maintained a strong hostility toward all male creatures.
After arranging the meal, Xing Haotian drove a new war vehicle swiftly out of the city. He no longer wanted the vehicle belonging to Li Meiyu; he found it dirty!
This time, he switched to the Azure Dragon war vehicle. He had never traveled so ostentatiously before—after all, the Four Divine Beasts were the most prestigious war vehicles in Huantian Kingdom. But to retrieve Wei Zi’s belongings quickly, he no longer cared about being low-key.
