Chapter 6: I Am About to Unleash My Ultimate Move!
"Achoo! Achoo!"
Lu Li rubbed his nose. "Is there some rogue citizen out there plotting against me again?"
He lowered his head, glanced at the message on his phone, and let out a long sigh.
"Sigh."
Everything is a complete mess!
No wonder he had been feeling that something wasn't right.
For some inexplicable reason, everything in this world had been flipped upside down.
Men and women were swapped, which explained why his business partner—a man—would actually indulge in beauty sleep. Fortunately, it seemed that women were still the ones giving birth for the time being.
Traffic lights were reversed, which was why those cars only moved when the light was red.
Day and night were inverted, which was why there were no people on the streets during the day, why no one went to work during the day, and why those cars kept their headlights on during the day!
Lu Li recalled the situation when he left his home.
The residential complex gate had been unmanned.
Moreover, the barrier arm had remained in the raised position.
In other words, this was the norm?
But Lu Li still felt like something was off.
Right!
He remembered!
Although many things had been inverted, some things remained unchanged.
For instance, people still felt hungry if they didn't eat, and thirsty if they didn't drink.
These hadn't changed!
But what if they started to change later?
Lu Li didn't even dare to think about it.
Returning home, he parked his motorcycle in the underground garage and took the elevator upstairs.
As he reached his door and was about to unlock it, he suddenly paused.
The cigarette ash on the floor by the door was gone.
Perhaps it had just been blown away by the wind.
But the rubber band he had wedged into the door gap was still there.
Only, its position had shifted.
There was a small dent on the door of Lu Li's apartment. It wasn't visible under normal circumstances; one had to look at it from an angle and rely on reflections to spot it.
When Lu Li had left, the rubber band he had wedged in was perfectly parallel to that dent.
But now... it was off by nearly half a position.
So... Lu Li's gaze sharpened.
Someone had been inside his home!
They might even still be there!
Lu Li quickly calmed down, then quietly took the stairs back down to the underground parking garage.
He hid in a corner far away, opened his phone, and accessed the recording from his car's 360-degree camera system.
He had been gone for about forty minutes in total.
He fast-forwarded through the forty minutes of footage and found that no one had approached his car.
Only then did he feel relieved enough to walk over, open the car door, retrieve a hand axe, tuck it into the back of his waistband, and cover it with his suit jacket.
Then, he lit a cigarette and made a decision.
He put the hand axe back under the car seat.
"You forced my hand. I'm going to use my ultimate move!"
Lu Li pulled out his phone and dialed 110.
The line connected quickly.
"Hello, this is the Luocheng 110 dispatch center. Please speak."
Lu Li was very calm. "Hello, my name is Lu Li, like the idiom 'guang guai lu li' (bizarre and motley). Someone has entered my home. It might be a burglary. The intruders might be armed, and it could be a group, though I'm not certain."
"The address is Building 8, Unit 1, Room 1003, Zijing Tianfu, Longtian North Road. I am currently in the basement level two parking garage."
"Understood. I will dispatch officers immediately. Please wait, and whatever you do, do not go up there alone."
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
About ten minutes later, a police car without its sirens on pulled up.
Two sturdy-looking female officers stepped out.
One was middle-aged, the other quite young.
As soon as they stepped out, Lu Li caught a whiff of cigarette smoke.
The middle-aged officer with bronze skin asked, "Are you the one who called? What's your name?"
"Lu Li, I'm the one who called." Lu Li shook her hand. "I just got off the morning shift and came home, and when I reached my door, I noticed the mat had been moved. I got a little scared, sorry about that."
"It's alright. It's not very safe for a young man to be coming off the morning shift alone. You were right to call."
The middle-aged officer waved her hand dismissively, then added, "Not to nag, but as a young man, you shouldn't pick up smoking. It doesn't look good."
"..." Lu Li twitched the corner of his mouth. "I'm just working overtime every day; I'll quit after this."
This feels so damn weird.
"Alright, take us up to have a look."
"You got it!"
Lu Li then led the two officers to the elevator to head toward his home.
When they reached the door, he gave the officers a questioning look.
The officer nodded, and only then did he open the door to enter.
As soon as he stepped inside, he narrowed his eyes.
There were six people in the living room, some sitting, some standing.
Four men and two women.
Just looking at them made one afraid to meet their eyes.
Lu Li was referring to their gazes and that aura they projected.
It was eerie.
But he had a feeling that these guys had either been on a battlefield or had blood on their hands.
He regretted not bringing the hand axe up with him.
The main reason was that he was afraid it would be hard to explain if the police found it.
Besides, he hadn't expected to run into people like this...
If it were someone like Miss Bai, the hand axe wouldn't have been of any use anyway.
Tsk, now he could only hope they were intimidated by the police.
When those people saw Lu Li, their eyes lit up. Just as they were about to speak, they saw Lu Li suddenly yanked out by the female officers, and then the door was slammed shut and even locked from the outside.
The six people looked at each other in confusion.
After a long silence, one of them asked, "Brother Xingtian, what do we do now?"
"Wait." The middle-aged, flat-topped, burly man in the lead kept his expression unchanged. "It's too dangerous outside right now."
He glanced at the watch on his wrist. "We are about to enter the third phase. It's safer inside the house. He will come back sooner or later. Even if he doesn't, once the third phase descends, we can go out and look for him."
"And the police?"
"Just two policewomen, not a big deal. Domestic police rarely carry guns. If they come back in a while, just kill them and throw them under the bed. Once we finish our mission, we can leave. It's no problem."
"Okay!"
A young man with a scar on his face pulled a white Desert Eagle from somewhere, then grinned hideously. "I've been waiting for you to say that!"
Outside the house, after locking the door, the two policewomen immediately took Lu Li down to the first floor and stood in the hallway.
Lu Li was a bit confused. "Why did you just..."
"It was too dangerous. There were six of them. Their expressions changed significantly when they saw you enter, clearly intending to turn this into a home invasion robbery!"
The officer's expression was serious. "I've locked them inside, and I can call for reinforcements. By the way, do you have security bars on your windows?"
Lu Li nodded. "I installed them, mostly because I was afraid of someone accidentally falling out."
"That's good."
The officer told Lu Li not to wander off while she took out her phone to call for support.
About ten minutes later, a dozen police cars entered the underground parking garage to meet up with Lu Li and the two officers.
A large group of female officers poured out.
The middle-aged officer explained the situation, after which they all drew their pistols, chambered rounds, and disengaged the safeties. Then, they took the house key from Lu Li, left two young officers to stay with him, and the others headed up to the tenth floor via the elevator and stairs.
The team exchanged glances, then kicked the door open and rushed in. "Don't move! Hands up!"
"Haha! I've been waiting for..."
The scar-faced man's hideous grin froze on his face, and then—
*Bang bang bang bang bang bang—!!!*
A burst of rapid gunfire erupted.
Watching the scar-faced man slump into a pool of blood, riddled like a honeycomb, the other five people looked at each other in shock.
Then, one by one, they knelt down, raised their hands, and lay flat on the ground to be fitted with silver bracelets.
