Chapter 23: Matchmaking Is Meant for Marriage!
Chapter 23: The Purpose of Matchmaking is Marriage!
Lu Li opened his eyes, staring blankly at the familiar ceiling. He felt his arm sink into something inexplicably soft and supple. Then, a fair, slender hand reached over, wiping away a tear that had welled up in the corner of his eye.
"Mr. Lu, are you awake? The surgery was a complete success; you are a girl now."
Lu Li froze and immediately reached down to check. It was still there. He turned his head. What met his gaze were Miss Luo’s pink and purple heterochromatic eyes, wearing a faint, enigmatic smile. The lower half of her face was hidden behind a fan.
"Mr. Lu, you were truly forceful with me last night... (sobbing)" Her eyes held a clear, teasing glint, much like an older sister playfully provoking a boy to see him blush.
Lu Li smiled slightly. "It’s fine, I’ll take responsibility. If you’re pregnant, we’ll keep it."
"???!!!"
Luo Qianning’s eyes widened instantly, her pale cheeks turning visibly red—a flush that traveled all the way to her ears.
"You, you, you—" She took several deep breaths before rolling off the bed. After a long moment, she regained her composure, her signature half-smile returning. "Mr. Lu, it seems your mental corruption has been purged."
"Uh-huh. Though, seeing you force yourself to stay calm is quite cute." Lu Li sat up, observing the silver-haired girl in the western dress. "Your heart is in a turmoil, isn't it?"
Luo Qianning: "."
"I still think the Mr. Lu who genuinely reveals his lecherous side is cuter."
Lu Li, however, was in no mood for further banter. "So, was that dream something you made me see?"
"Who knows?" Miss Luo replied noncommittally.
Lu Li frowned. "So... Bai... is she truly beyond saving?" He paused when saying her name. Bai Muli.
"She is indeed beyond saving." Miss Luo smiled, offering a cold comfort. "That’s why I play along with her little house-playing games. Otherwise, if an entity of our caliber had their beloved treasure snatched away, a fight to the death would be inevitable." She shrugged. "I still have a long life to live; why bother bickering with a monster who is about to die?"
Lu Li watched her quietly. After a while, he suddenly said, "You are truly gentle."
"I am not—" Luo Qianning instinctively began to retort, but looking into Lu Li’s warm eyes, the words died in her throat.
"Your power is too terrifying, so never lie to me, okay?"
He had said that to her a long time ago, and she had remembered every word. She would never lie to him. It was pathetic. She was prone to softening her heart even toward monsters. This man was just like that; she had known it all along.
Seeing Miss Luo fall silent, Lu Li continued to expose her true nature. "Actually, you want to help her too, don't you, Miss Luo? You must have seen her dream world."
He wasn't referring to the dream world of eternal rain. That was indeed Bai Muli’s dream world, but only the one belonging to the "rotten, twisted flesh-and-blood Bai Muli." Her true dream world was the "hell" she saw, filled only with twisted gore.
Miss Luo’s voice dropped. "I saw it when we fought."
"So, even knowing she cut in line, you weren't too angry, and you even wanted to help her get on good terms with me, right?"
"Who knows?" Facing Lu Li’s certain question, Luo Qianning remained noncommittal.
"But I have another question." Lu Li looked up, staring with extreme seriousness at the girl in the western dress nearby. "There is no love without reason. While I haven't fully grasped Miss Bai’s motives, I have some understanding. But what about you, Miss Luo? Why are you so good to me?"
Luo Qianning froze, her eyes lowering slightly. She whispered, "I don't have any moving story to tell you, and I don't want to talk about it." *What I want is for you to like me for who I am, not to pity me for some so-called past.*
This same conversation had repeated over sixty thousand times; it was meaningless. Though, she didn't exactly hate it either.
"Then the question now is: Bai Muli’s fate is sealed. What will you do? Choose for her to win and fulfill her final wish? I don't care."
"That’s a good question."
Lu Li looked out the window. The moon was bright, the stars sparse. He checked the wall clock; it was 10:30 PM. In this inverted world, it was now working hours. He glanced at the door and suddenly called out, "Miss Bai!"
Bang!
Bai Muli burst through the door. Her unfocused golden eyes stared fixedly at Lu Li, relaxing only when she saw his clothes were intact. "Mr. Lu, dinner is ready. Would you like to eat?"
"Let's not." Lu Li got out of bed and put on his shoes, standing quietly before the two girls. One had long black hair and golden eyes, dressed in a sleek black suit that clung to her curves, looking both sharp and alluring. The other had long silver hair and pink-purple heterochromatic eyes, wearing a mysterious, symmetrical two-tone western dress.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Li said, "Let's go get our marriage license."
Both "young girls," who had lived for over nine digits of years, were stunned.
"Huh?!"
They had never imagined such a response. Even Luo Qianning, who had experienced the same events 66,535 times, had never encountered this. *Is it because Bai Muli is here this time?* She glanced imperceptibly at Bai Muli, whose brain had completely crashed.
Miss Bai was utterly dumbfounded. She had prepared for many outcomes. She had thought Mr. Lu might choose her, or choose Luo Qianning, or choose neither. She had even considered the possibility of him wanting both. But she had never imagined Mr. Lu would say he wanted to take her to get a marriage license!
"Marriage... what license?"
"Obviously, to get mar—mar—" Lu Li’s skin was also quite thin. "Dammit! You know what it is!"
How could he say, "I want to get a marriage license with both of you"? That would be an immediate arrest! That was bigamy! Even if they were monsters, he was a human!
Seeing the two girls staring blankly, Lu Li began to lose his composure. "Forget it, then."
"Marriage license? Marriage license! Yes!" Bai Muli grabbed his hand. "Let's go! I want to go! Let's get the marriage license!"
Her original obsession had only been to live with Mr. Lu for three days. But if they could get married, Mr. Lu would surely never forget her! They had to get married! She pulled Lu Li along as she walked.
Lu Li looked back. Luo Qianning stood where she was, unmoving.
"Miss Luo, aren't you coming?"
Facing Lu Li’s inquiry, a faint, enigmatic smile appeared on Luo Qianning’s face. She whispered to herself:
"As expected, it has begun to change."
