Chapter 49: Huang Yu's Rules of Death
Xia Tianqiong found a courtyard to go to sleep, while the Delivery Ghost squatted beside Huang Yu, materializing a cup of milk tea and inserting the straw into her mouth.
"How is it? Does it taste good?"
Having been praised and even rewarded, the Delivery Ghost was in an extremely good mood. It spoke to Huang Yu with a bright smile, looking particularly enthusiastic.
"I know you human girls love drinking this kind of sweet milk tea. What flavor do you like? Blink if I guess right: coconut, rose, coffee, mango, caramel..."
It rattled off dozens of flavors in one breath.
Huang Yu could not speak, but her large eyes stared fixedly at the Delivery Ghost, seeming almost as if they could talk.
The Delivery Ghost could tell that she was thanking it.
"No need to thank me. I'm just carrying out my master's orders. Once you transform into a ghost, we'll serve the master together. Huh? Why aren't you blinking? Which flavor do you actually like? Never mind, I'll just materialize a cup of every single kind for you!"
Hearing this, the corners of Huang Yu's eyes curved upward into a very pretty arc, as if she were smiling.
The milk tea materialized by the Delivery Ghost—whether the tea itself, the straw, or the packaging—was fundamentally made of nether power.
Upon entering her mouth, it was directly absorbed by her body.
With the continuous intake of nether power, both Huang Yu's physical body and soul were undergoing a profound metamorphosis.
Gradually, her consciousness sank into a wondrous, chaotic state.
It felt as though countless memories were flooding into her brain.
The transition from human to ghost was the final step, and also the most crucial one. If she was lucky, she might directly grasp a certain rule of death or ghostly arts.
This process was slow. The Delivery Ghost dutifully kept feeding Huang Yu cup after cup of milk tea.
Its own mouth wasn't idle either; Xia Tianqiong had given it quite a few fruits from the Ghost Realm, and it was happily eating them now.
Even though it came from the Ghost Realm, there were many among these fruits that it had never tasted before.
Because it had no money and couldn't afford them!
This scene made the eight waiters not far away green with envy.
"Those are blood dates! I've never even eaten those in the Ghost Realm."
"And Nether Soul Fruit! Such a big one; it must be top-tier quality. Even the Avici Restaurant can't get goods this good."
"Talk about blind luck, actually getting a reward from the master."
The more the waiters spoke, the more envious and drool-worthy they became.
These fruits were not ordinary food; they all possessed special effects, such as replenishing nether power, increasing cultivation speed, and boosting the attack intensity of ghostly arts.
"That guy is just a coward. Let's go snatch them."
Among the waiters, Number Eight had the smallest build, but he loved stirring up trouble the most.
Number One quickly whispered a warning, "Don't do anything reckless. It won't end well if the master finds out."
Number Three stepped forward to back up Number Eight. "The master gave it so many fruits that it can't possibly finish them all. We'll just go help it eat them; the master won't care."
Following that, Number Two, Number Five, and the other ghosts all expressed their agreement with this logic.
Time flew by, and several hours later.
Xia Tianqiong was sleeping soundly when he suddenly felt a jolt in his heart, startling him awake from his dream.
"Why is there such a strong force of rules?"
He distinctly sensed a massive surge of rule forces fluctuating violently within the mirror space.
Following the sensation, he left the courtyard and stepped outside, only to abruptly see Huang Yu floating vertically in mid-air with her eyes tightly closed.
"What's going on? Did something go wrong?"
Xia Tianqiong instantly teleported behind the Delivery Ghost, giving it a start.
"She is comprehending the rule of death. This is the final step. Whether she successfully comprehends it or not, she will become a ghost. However, a ghost without the rule of death will find it very difficult to give birth to ghostly arts."
The Delivery Ghost quietly took a step back, standing by Xia Tianqiong's side.
"As long as there's no accident, it's fine."
Cultivating a human-turned-ghost with his own hands was of great significance to Xia Tianqiong.
If feasible, it might prove immensely useful in the future.
"Why are you injured?"
Xia Tianqiong noticed the Delivery Ghost's disheveled clothes, the bruises on its neck, and the slight abrasions on its cheek. "Did you guys fight?"
He looked at the Delivery Ghost, then turned his gaze toward the waiters not far away.
The eight of them instantly lowered their heads with guilty consciences, feeling inwardly nervous while simultaneously cursing the Delivery Ghost in their hearts.
As ghosts, whether it was their clothing or their physical bodies, everything was condensed from nether power. Unless a ghost's body was severely injured, minor wounds didn't need treatment and would recover automatically.
The Delivery Ghost could clearly have healed the bruises on its neck and the scrapes on its cheek automatically, yet it had deliberately kept them for several hours.
Clearly, it did it on purpose!
What was it trying to do? Naturally, it was going to complain to the master!
The eight waiters had various thoughts running through their minds, but all of them were internally cursing the Delivery Ghost for being shameless. It lost a fight, and yet it actually had the nerve to go running to the parental figure?
Just when they thought the Delivery Ghost was about to file a complaint, it spoke up.
"Just some minor injuries, Master, don't worry. They'll be fine soon."
Ghosts could not lie to humans, but they could choose not to speak.
Xia Tianqiong smiled meaningfully and didn't press the matter further.
Not far away, the eight waiters looked at the Delivery Ghost strangely, having no idea what game it was playing.
"I told you it was a coward!" Number Eight muttered under his breath.
"You're the idiot! It's poisoning the master's impression of us right in front of him. Do you really think the master can't tell who beat it up?"
"Shut up, all of you, keep your voices down."
While they were quietly murmuring, Huang Yu, suspended in mid-air, suddenly underwent a transformation.
A massive amount of rule forces swirled around her, their fluctuations growing increasingly intense.
At a certain moment, the force of the rules abruptly vanished, as if diving entirely into her body.
It was precisely at that moment that her eyes snapped open. Her pupils were pitch-grey, utterly devoid of any vitality, filled only with endless coldness and dead silence, resembling an abyss.
She mechanically turned her head, scanning her surroundings.
When she saw the other ghosts, she showed no unusual reaction, but upon seeing Xia Tianqiong, her eyes suddenly widened, suffused with a faint red glow filled entirely with madness and greed.
"What's going on? Has she lost her mind?"
Xia Tianqiong frowned. If Huang Yu lost her mind, he wouldn't even have the chance to contract her and would simply have to kill her.
"Am I pretty?"
Huang Yu suddenly spoke, and Xia Tianqiong's expression changed instantly.
He felt a trace of rule force lingering around him.
This sentence was clearly the rule of death; answering incorrectly would trigger the rule.
He hadn't expected that after transforming into a ghost, the very first target of Huang Yu's death rule would be Xia Tianqiong, the one who had saved her life.
It seemed one truly shouldn't do good deeds lightly, or one would have to bear the corresponding karma.
