Chapter 58: Temple Fair 1
After finishing breakfast, Chu Yuchuan remained at Xiuzhu Garden as before.
"Today is the Laba Festival. There should be a temple fair in the western part of the city. Would you like to go out for a stroll?"
"A temple fair?" She had only ever heard of them, never having seen one.
"Mhm."
"Alright."
Chu Yuchuan smiled. "Then I will go back and change my clothes."
"Why are you changing your clothes? I never planned on going with you."
"..."
Yu Qingyan stood up and walked toward her bedchamber.
"Qingyan, please don't be angry anymore. I promise I'll get your permission before getting into bed with you from now on."
Zuoxuan had already fetched a change of clothes with lightning speed. "Your Highness."
Chu Yuchuan hurriedly took them and changed in the outer room. By the time he finished, Yu Qingyan had already stepped out of her room dressed in men's attire.
"Is your injury fully healed?"
"..."
Chu Yuchuan followed closely behind her as she walked out of the prince's estate.
Being the Laba Festival, the streets were naturally bustling with activity. Yu Qingyan headed toward the western part of the city just as Chu Yuchuan had mentioned.
"Chu Yuchuan."
"Hmm?"
"Does everyone on the street not recognize you?"
"I rarely go out."
"Then how did you know there was a temple fair in the west of the city?"
"Rou'er mentioned it last time."
Zuoxuan silently rolled his eyes at his own master. It seemed it would still take his Highness quite some time to truly win over the princess...
"Lin Wanrou?"
"Qingyan, actually Rou'er—"
"Whatever she is to you has nothing to do with me." Yu Qingyan cut him off. "Where is Zuoshen?"
"Why bring him up out of the blue?"
"Who is the next person you plan to deal with? The Prince of Lie or the Prince of Jing?"
Chu Yuchuan struggled to keep up with her leaping train of thought and answered honestly, "The Prince of Lie."
Yu Qingyan nodded. She had merely been changing the subject.
"Why have you stopped talking?"
Yu Qingyan raised an eyebrow and paused in her tracks.
Chu Yufeng?
Naturally, Chu Yuchuan saw him too and immediately reached out to pull her in the opposite direction.
"What a coincidence, you two." Chu Yufeng had already approached them. "Seventh Brother, I wonder how this young gentleman is addressed?"
Yu Qingyan smiled. "My name is Gu Yan."
"Gu?" Chu Yufeng arched a delicate eyebrow. "Seventh Brother rarely steps out these days; Young Master Gu certainly commands great influence to have brought him out."
Chu Yuchuan shot him an icy glare, having no intention of entertaining him. Yu Qingyan's gaze, however, swept past him to land on the person standing behind him.
"Young Master Gu seems much more interested in him than in me. Could it be that Xiao Mo's charm surpasses my own?"
Yu Qingyan raised an eyebrow. "He is quite charming indeed. Why doesn't Young Master Feng gift him to me?"
Chu Yuchuan's expression darkened instantly, his amber eyes reflecting Xiao Mo's expressionless face.
You call that charming?
"That is not for me to decide." Chu Yufeng turned back to look at Xiao Mo. "Xiao Mo, this young gentleman has taken an interest in you. Are you willing?"
Xiao Mo maintained his eternal, glacier-like expression. "Unwilling."
Yu Qingyan had not expected him to agree anyway; she had merely asked on a whim. Since Xiao Mo was assisting Chu Yufeng, the two of them must have already struck some kind of bargain.
"Young Master Feng's charm remains undiminished. Look, Xiao Mo is still utterly devoted to you."
The corners of Chu Yuchuan's lips twitched upward into an inexplicable curve at those words. "You two carry on, we will take our leave."
Chu Yuchuan tugged Yu Qingyan away. Unable to contain her curiosity, she asked, "Do you really despise Chu Yufeng that much?"
"I don't like him casting covetous glances at you."
Yu Qingyan frowned. "Which of your eyes saw him coveting me?"
"Both of my eyes saw it."
Yu Qingyan said indifferently, "Then let him covet away."
"What is that supposed to mean!"
"It means nothing." Yu Qingyan walked on at her own pace, glancing around from time to time. Ancient temple fairs really were quite fascinating.
