Chapter 39: The Eight Sounds of the Heavenly Dragon vs. The Hidden Song
Chapter 39: The Eight Sounds of the Heavenly Dragon vs. The Hidden Song
"The bronze coffin inside has vanished." The Xiaoge (Little Brother) ran his fingers along the wall for a long moment before speaking. "The wall is solid; there is no hidden space behind it."
"The mechanism was constructed with exquisite precision; there are no marks left on the ground either!" Wu Yu sighed and spoke, "But the principle behind this..."
"An elevator! And every room’s layout and furnishings are identical, seamless!" Wu Tianzhen thought for a moment and immediately understood. He quickly pulled out his Third Uncle's notebook to describe the scene their uncle had faced when they first arrived here, combining it with their current situation for analysis.
"But the problem is, we don't know which level we are on now, or how many levels this ship has!"
"Why not go back and check? If our diving gear is still in the pool we passed earlier, it means we have returned, and there aren't many floors here!" Wu Yu pondered. However, when they returned and saw an identical pool—yet devoid of the equipment they had left behind—everyone realized that this underwater shipwreck was far more vast than they had imagined.
"We cannot wait any longer," the Xiaoge suddenly said. "Our food is limited!"
Upon hearing this, the four men snapped back to reality. They essentially had three days' worth of food; wasting it all here would be too dangerous.
More importantly, there was a row of wet footprints on the edge of the pool!
Judging by the size of the prints, they belonged to a child no older than four or five!
There were no children in their group!
With that thought, the four nodded and prepared to move forward; only by walking further would they know what lay ahead.
The moment they left, a jar half the height of a human slowly surfaced in the pool, spinning incessantly.
Passing through a large gate, a pungent, rotting stench hit them, nearly making them vomit. The ground was littered with severed limbs and skeletons, causing everyone to frown. These remains appeared human, yet not quite human—they were unrecognizable.
"It seems we've stumbled into another nest!" A wide-bladed sword appeared in Wu Yu’s hand: the Sanjin!
As they ventured deeper, the bones underfoot grew more numerous, and one could see teeth marks on them—strangely similar to human ones!
"This... this is getting disgusting," the Fatty said, his face twitching.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..." A strange sound entered their ears. Before they could react, the Fatty’s eyes grew vacant, as if he were dead drunk.
The Xiaoge and Wu Yu lunged forward instantly. The Xiaoge grabbed Tianzhen and pulled him back, trying to keep him from falling under the spell as well.
On the other side, Wu Yu braced the Sanjin sword with one hand and slammed his other palm against the blade.
"Clang!"
A thunderous, resonant sound erupted. A violent gust of wind swept through the tomb passage, sending the bones swirling into the depths.
"How is it?" The Xiaoge walked over after seeing the Fatty regain consciousness. "It’s somewhat similar to your zither music."
"Yes, both are sonic-based attacks," Wu Yu nodded and walked up to the Fatty. "How are you?"
"What? I can't hear anything!" The Fatty shook his ears desperately, but to no avail.
"Xiaoge, you take the rear! I want to see what kind of monster this is!" Wu Yu couldn't help but smile. Trying to play sonic tricks on him? How interesting!
Since arriving in this world, the beginner’s gift pack Wu Yu had received was the max-level "Eight Sounds of the Heavenly Dragon"! For over twenty years, he had never slacked in his practice. Today, finally encountering an opponent, he felt a surge of excitement. However, he still needed to probe further to see if the enemy was worth him unsheathing his zither.
After walking for another three or four minutes, the sound returned!
Unlike before, it was no longer a single tone; it now sounded like a chorus.
In an instant, Wu Tianzhen and the Fatty were ensnared. They huddled together, drooling, looking foolish as they muttered, "It sounds so beautiful," "You are so lovely," and "Let me have a kiss."
The next second, the two opened their mouths wide and bit toward each other. Although the Xiaoge was holding up, he could only protect himself and could not attend to the other two.
"Truly interesting!" Wu Yu sneered. He swung the Sanjin heavy sword, the sharp aura whistling through the air, the blade humming in a way that felt refreshing. His elegant form moved like a startled swan; swinging a heavy sword possessed a unique, masculine beauty. Sword dancing was not originally intended for women; it was once a martial art of slaughter, only later evolving into a performance.
Under the infusion of internal energy, the sound of the heavy sword began to ripple outward. Tianzhen and the others regained their senses, though they were in a bad state, feeling as if they were suffering from seasickness.
"This... why is Master Yu dancing?" the Fatty blinked, puzzled.
"Plug your ears! You cannot listen to this!" The Xiaoge handed over cloth strips.
"Okay, okay!" Tianzhen and the Fatty hurriedly took them and plugged their ears.
The strange sonic waves collided again and again with the humming of Wu Yu’s sword, eventually coalescing into a new, distorted sound. If one were not careful, their mind would sink into it, leading to distraction and murderous intent.
However, as the sounds in the darkness grew more numerous, Wu Yu began to feel the pressure. More importantly, the mental strain gave him a headache. Yet, it was not without its rewards... he seemed to realize what kind of creatures they were!
The next second, the zither case hit the ground, the Sanjin sword stood beside him, and a seven-stringed zither appeared in his hands.
"Today, I shall use you as a blood sacrifice for my Eight Sounds of the Heavenly Dragon!"
Wu Yu’s hands danced across the strings. The eight sounds—Hook, Stick, Kill, Seize, Capture, Pull, Spin, and Hammer—all erupted at once. Fueled by his internal energy, the space before his eyes seemed to shatter and twist, creating a scene of absolute annihilation.
"Hiss... screech!" The shadows in the darkness seemed to realize Wu Yu’s terror; the strange sounds became more frantic and high-pitched. The chorus of hundreds caused Tianzhen and the Fatty’s heads to feel as if they were about to explode.
Seeing this, Wu Yu increased the speed of his plucking. While manipulating the Eight Sounds, he erected a sonic magnetic field.
"Oh dear, if that brat Xiu knew I stole his family's legendary 'Three Chapters of the Divine Wind,' would he come for a reckoning?" Wu Yu felt a slight headache.
The thought vanished as quickly as it came. Pushing the Eight Sounds to the limit, the zither unleashed its maximum potential. Finally, the sounds in the darkness reached their breaking point.
"Eight Sounds: Soul Severing!"
In an instant, half the voices stopped abruptly. The all-pervading Eight Sounds had shattered their consciousness; even if they were still alive, they were nothing more than walking corpses.
