Chapter 18: The Cause of the Dog Mountain Riot

"Brother Xiaoman! Brother Xiaoman!"

Just then, Wu Tianzhen suddenly stood on tiptoe, waving his hands and shouting at a black German Shepherd.

Brother Xiaoman seemed to hear Wu Tianzhen’s call and instinctively raised its head to look, but it was soon met by the piercing gaze of the giant yellow dog.

Yet, Brother Xiaoman was truly worthy of being chosen by the old master all those years ago; even when faced with the intimidation of the giant yellow dog, it did not retreat a single step, locking eyes with its opponent in a fierce, unwavering stare.

"Hehe, brother, how about that! That’s my Brother Xiaoman!" Tianzhen grinned, looking delighted.

"It is indeed a fine dog!" Wu Yu nodded.

To reach such a level, one would likely need to be a dog king of the same caliber as Wu Erbai’s 'White Snow.' By comparison, Brother Xiaoman was younger and therefore possessed even more potential.

However, as the giant yellow dog took a step forward, Brother Xiaoman finally lowered its head and flattened itself against the ground. The giant yellow dog then halted its advance and walked slowly toward Grandmother Wu.

"Mother!" Wu Sansheng’s expression shifted, and he started to step forward.

But Grandmother Wu struck her cane against the ground: "No need to come over!"

Watching the giant yellow dog approach, the elderly woman slowly reached out to stroke its head: "I truly never expected that a giant like you would actually be born on Dog Mountain!"

"Woo..." The giant yellow dog did not resist, instead letting out a few soft whimpers, as if it were trying to say something. Then, it turned its head, its gaze cutting through the crowd until it locked onto Wu Yu, before it began to walk toward him.

"Me?" Wu Yu was struck by curiosity. This was his first time here; what could this giant want with him? Nevertheless, he felt no fear. Even if all thousands of dogs were to swarm him at once, he would not be intimidated.

"Brother, be careful!" Wu Tianzhen said, his voice laced with concern as he watched Wu Yu walk forward.

"Don't worry," Wu Yu smiled. When he reached the giant yellow dog, he mimicked Grandmother Wu’s actions, reaching out to pat its head.

This sight terrified the onlookers, but they froze when they realized the giant yellow dog had no intention of resisting, their expressions turning to ones of bewilderment.

Unlike its interaction with Grandmother Wu, the giant yellow dog actually lowered its head voluntarily in front of Wu Yu. This was undoubtedly a gesture of submission. When facing Grandmother Wu, the dog had held its gaze level, signifying a relationship of equals—much like friends. But before Wu Yu, it bowed its head in submission.

As members of the Wu family, they naturally understood what this meant, and they were all the more astonished because of it.

"Hahaha, I’m getting old, I’m getting old! To think that my dear grandson has managed to do something even this old woman couldn't!" Grandmother Wu burst into laughter at the sight. "If your grandfather could see this, he would be happy enough to drink for three days straight!"

Wu Sansheng, watching silently, seemed to grasp the situation and nodded. He knew how formidable Wu Yu's abilities were. Animals possess the keenest sense for danger; ever since Wu Yu arrived at the Wu estate, Dog Mountain had been in an uproar. Unsure if he was friend or foe, the dogs had swarmed out upon sensing his overwhelming strength. Once they realized they were outmatched, they had finally sent out the giant yellow dog—the king of Dog Mountain—to intervene. The result, however, was self-evident.

In the animal kingdom, the rules are simple, especially for dogs that have been tamed; those who can win their recognition and prove superior will naturally receive their submission. And so, the scene before them unfolded.

"Roar... Woof!"

The giant yellow dog turned and let out a thunderous bark at the pack. The next second, a commotion broke out, and the dogs began to clear a path from the mountain.

A group of little creatures came tumbling down, wobbling as they ran. The oldest among them didn't look more than two months old, and the youngest hadn't even opened their eyes yet, carried down in the mouths of the larger dogs. Most of them were little pups that tripped every few steps, a sight that brought smiles to the faces of everyone watching.

Wu Tianzhen even laughed out loud: "These little guys are so much fun! Third Uncle, can I raise one?"

"Do you want Brother Xiaoman to bite you tonight?" Wu Sansheng retorted with a glare.

As the pups surrounded them, Wu Yu seemed to understand something. He looked at the giant yellow dog and asked, "Are you asking me to choose one?"

The giant yellow dog understood him and nodded. It shook its head, its long fur swaying in the wind, and a small pup tumbled out from behind it. Perhaps because it had been disturbed, the little one—which hadn't even opened its eyes yet—actually dared to let out a tiny, infantile roar at the giant yellow dog.

Knowing that among the hundreds of pups present, not a single one had dared to make a sound before the giant yellow dog, this little one was the sole exception!

Seeing this, Wu Yu couldn't help but laugh. He picked up the little creature to inspect it. It bore a resemblance to the giant yellow dog, though its coat was much darker, and its tiny tail wagged like a fan, looking incredibly cute. However, Wu Yu was startled to notice a small trace of dried blood at the corner of the pup's mouth. He hadn't expected this little one to have been raised on blood! That explained why it was so fierce, showing no fear even before the emperor of Dog Mountain.

"I understand. You want me to take this one, don't you?" Wu Yu said softly to the giant yellow dog.

"Woof! Woof!" The dog barked twice, seemingly confirming his words.

This dog was extraordinary. Having been raised on blood, it would inevitably grow up to be fierce and savage. As long as the giant yellow dog was around, it could keep this little one in check. But clearly, the giant was aging; though it still held authority, it would likely not live long enough to see this pup come into its own. Therefore, sending it away was the best choice.

Of course, the giant yellow dog hadn't been forcing the issue; it had brought down all the pups from the mountain so that if Wu Yu didn't like this one, he could choose any other. Bringing all the pups before Wu Yu was the ultimate gesture of the giant's submission. In any pack, the young are the only ones second in status to the king; gathering them all here was the dog's greatest show of sincerity.

"Alright, I understand," Wu Yu nodded. "I'll take this little one with me then!"

Since every descendant of the Wu family was meant to have a dog, there was no problem with him taking this one.

"Woo... Woof!" The giant yellow dog issued another command. All the dogs picked up their pups and turned to leave. The giant yellow dog walked up to Wu Yu, licked the little one in his arms one last time, and then headed back toward the mountain.

With the matter resolved, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. If a riot had truly broken out on Dog Mountain, it would have been beyond the control of ordinary police.
