Chapter 49: All I Want Is You
The atmosphere in the hospital room was somewhat awkward with two men and one woman inside. The woman lay there quietly, while the two men glared at each other.
Cheng Keyan's husband was reasonably decent-looking, with a square face, thick eyebrows, and full lips. He exuded a strong, masculine scent. I looked at his attire: a button-down shirt paired with suit trousers and leather shoes, with a wristwatch on his wrist. Adorned with these items, his masculine aura appeared even more intense.
It seemed he was quite a match for Cheng Keyan. Yet, for some reason, this guy carried a faint, musky scent of a vixen that was so pungent it made my eyes smart.
The two of us had no prior interaction. After I entered the ward, we exchanged a glance and quickly looked away. I simply treated him like air and strode directly toward Cheng Keyan's hospital bed.
Cheng Keyan lay on the bed with her eyes tightly closed and her brows slightly furrowed, appearing to be in some pain. I couldn't help but call out, "Teacher Cheng."
Cheng Keyan showed no reaction at all, her brows remaining tightly furrowed. I then checked her breathing, took her hand, and felt her pulse.
My actions drew the attention of Cheng Keyan's husband. The guy stood up directly, glaring at me with an icy expression. I turned my head and met his gaze with equal coldness. Inside, I couldn't help but sneer.
I was merely holding Teacher Cheng's hand, so why was he overreacting like this? What kind of expression would he wear if he knew I had almost cuckolded him?
I let go of Cheng Keyan's hand, cast him one last cold glance, and finally left the ward to sit in the corridor outside. At that moment, the heavy stone weighing on my heart finally lifted a little.
I didn't step into the ward again for the rest of the night, nor did I leave the hospital; instead, I sat quietly in the hallway. Amidst a hazy slumber, daybreak gradually arrived. I left the hospital to grab some breakfast and then returned to Cheng Keyan's ward.
By this time, Cheng Keyan's complexion had improved significantly. Although she hadn't woken up yet, she was presumably out of danger. Cheng Keyan's husband had spent the entire night in the ward as well. When I entered, he was dozing off in a chair. As I passed by him, I nudged him awake, and the moment this guy saw me, he instantly snapped to attention.
Seeing me walk toward Cheng Keyan, his eyes widened even further with undisguised hostility. Ignoring him entirely, I walked straight to Cheng Keyan and took her hand.
Noticing that her condition had improved, I released her hand and left the ward once more. The entire morning passed, and Cheng Keyan remained unconscious. In the blink of an eye, afternoon arrived. I entered the ward again, but Cheng Keyan was still fast asleep, showing no signs of waking up.
By dusk, Cheng Keyan was still fast asleep.
Time flew by, and night fell, yet Cheng Keyan still had not woken up. Sitting on the hallway bench, I was burning with anxiety, debating whether I should call a doctor to check on her.
To my surprise, right at that moment, accompanied by a cry, Cheng Keyan woke up on the hospital bed. I rushed hurriedly into the ward. As soon as I entered, I saw Cheng Keyan struggling and thrashing about relentlessly on the bed, while her husband stood at the bedside, pinning her down tightly to prevent her from moving.
Not wanting to be outdone, I hurried over and pinned Cheng Keyan down tightly as well. At that instant, I noticed that Cheng Keyan's husband's face had turned completely green.
Gritting his teeth, he glared at me and roared viciously, "What the hell kind of person are you? Let go of her right now!"
Cheng Keyan was still struggling fiercely on the bed with immense strength. Even with both of us holding her down, I felt like she might break free at any second.
Hearing her husband say that, a cold smirk formed in my mind. I said, "If you say so, I'll really let go."
As I spoke, I didn't forget to press down on Cheng Keyan a bit harder. I could see that Cheng Keyan's husband looked like he was about to vomit blood; if he hadn't been holding onto Cheng Keyan without being able to let go, he probably would have grabbed a knife and picked a fight with me.
"I told you to fucking let go!" Cheng Keyan's husband finally shrieked out.
I smiled at him. "You asked for it, remember."
With that, I instantly released my hands. The very second I let go, a crisp smack rang out. Cheng Keyan's palm landed squarely across her husband's face. A five-fingered print instantly appeared on his cheek.
When I was holding Cheng Keyan down earlier, I could feel that her hands had a lot of strength, clearly intending to lash out and hit me. The moment I let go, I hadn't expected her blows to land on her husband's face instead. Suddenly, I couldn't help clutching my stomach and letting out a loud laugh.
Furious to the extreme, Cheng Keyan's husband glared at me and roared, "Laugh! Go ahead and laugh, you—"
Slap, slap, slap.
Several more continuous slaps followed, driving whatever curses Cheng Keyan's husband hadn't finished shouting right back into his stomach.
Cheng Keyan's husband's face turned completely ashen. He had lost all his dignity in front of me today, and he probably felt like committing suicide. Meanwhile, I stood off to the side, laughing so hard I could barely catch my breath.
After the laughter subsided, I redirected my attention back to Cheng Keyan. Having slapped her husband a dozen times in a row, Cheng Keyan finally calmed down. There was nothing seriously wrong with her; she had probably just woken up with her mind still trapped in the terror of her suicide attempt, which explained her abnormal behavior.
Once Cheng Keyan calmed down completely, one side of her husband's face was a mottled red and blue. He no longer dared to vent his temper on me, hurriedly averting his gaze whenever our eyes met.
I pulled myself together and focused entirely on Cheng Keyan. As her sanity fully returned, I opportunely called out, "Teacher Cheng."
Cheng Keyan turned her head. The moment she saw me, her expression grew overwhelmingly complex. "Why did you come here? Get out of here, get out!"
Cheng Keyan immediately grew agitated again. I nodded at her and said, "If Teacher Cheng truly doesn't wish to see me, I'll leave. But Teacher Cheng—"
Before I could finish, Cheng Keyan abruptly stopped being agitated, her tone suddenly turning chillingly cold. "Why wouldn't I want to see you? I'm someone who has already died once, what else do I care about?"
Hearing this, Cheng Keyan's husband raised his head slightly to look at her, but immediately lowered it again, remaining silent. Although she said that, when Cheng Keyan stared at me, I noticed an intricate complexity in her eyes.
Sensing something amiss, Cheng Keyan's husband stood up and said to us, "You two talk, I'll go buy a midnight snack."
The moment her husband left, Cheng Keyan stared at me, her expression shifting instantly. "Why did you leave? That night, why did you leave?"
I looked at Cheng Keyan, left completely speechless. Although she wasn't crying anymore, I could see tears shimmering in her eyes. At that moment, I recalled the musky, fox-like scent lingering on her husband. I said to her, "Teacher Cheng, let it go and start a new life. I already know why your husband strayed. It wasn't actually him seeking out an affair; rather, he was seduced. I can help you chase that vixen away."
Cheng Keyan stared at me and suddenly said, "Don't you understand? There is no one else left in my heart anymore. There is only room for you, do you understand?"
